My gripe with the whole gender discussion is that the apparent goal, or at least, the direction it seems to be taking. Is to Blend the genders together into a formless grey policially-correct mush. Devoid of any variation or flexibility.
How do rigid gender roles afford anyone any amount of variation or flexibility? Gender as a fluid concept has much more variation than gender as a binary concept, that's why one is called fluid and one is called binary.
Sure i couldnt possibly object to the fact that a person went to a 'gender study', Wich is, and be fucking honest, a thesis about why men are shit, and women are victims, But im not going to change because you think i should be different.
And where did you get that idea from?

I think he probably got that from the vocal minority of feminists that are so obsessed of oppressing the oppressors.
classes like tv production, architectural design, music classes, website design etc. Something to help give you a skill or make you think about what you want to do with your life.

Oh i dont know.
Gain skills?
education isn't just about learning skills to get a job
education is also about learning about the world you exist in, about expanding your understanding of yourself and the society we are supposed to live and function in, and about improving yourself as a human being
not everything you learn and do has to result in a job of some sort for you

it's good to have at least some knowledge of as much as possible, even if you aren't planning to make a career for yourself in that area

Except gender studies had absolutely nothing to do with those protests
You learn about the social construction of gender, and how we arbitrarily define things as masculine or feminine. Basically from birth how your gender identity is reinforced through the social world (blue for boys, pink for girls, stuff like that).
It's not at all some feminazi thing, feminism just happens to analyze both men and women. There's nothing crazy or unusual about the classes, they are really informative.
except gender isn't a social construct

nonsense
Thank god I'm long past the Ontario school system.
What IS in fact utter nonsense is their intent to point out obvious difference between genders that any given person with a little bit of sense should already have their head fully wrapped around. This school system is well known around for it's indoctrinate agendas. For example, the whole thing where the TDSB tried to push a sex ed class that told children that masturbation with vegitables was to be encouraged. It almost seems like this school board is run by a bunch of greasy old pedophiles.
I'm honestly so glad i'm past all of that shit. The funny part is i can not accredit any of my success in my career from anything that can be associated with the Ontario public school system's teachings.

I also heard they teach that the earth revolves around the sun
how such blasphemy is allowed I cannot fathom

what's wrong with masturbation with vegetables?
[editline]28th April 2013[/editline]
well i guess if you don't wash them properly you could get infections?

Hey, if you can manage it, more power to you.
Gender Studies is probably one of the least useful degrees you could possibly get if you want a job.
this is dumb you should study what you want and if you want to study gender studies then you should do it
someone whos studying gender studies and has legitimate interest in it is going to get a lot further in life and in jobs than someone who studies business and doesnt care about it
"‘how these guys go through life not knowing about consent?"
Oh shut the fuck up.
There are plenty of guys who believe shit like it isn't rape if you fuck someone who is passed out drunk.
I don't get it, do they think rapists are completely unaware that people are supposed to consent to intercourse?
uh no i think its referring to the fact that our culture has no problem with and often endorses getting people drunk out of their mind until the point that they can't explicitly say no and then having sex with them without consent
yeah thats probably it
[editline]28th April 2013[/editline]
its not that rapists aren't aware rape is bad, its that they don't know they're rapists lol
Great, let's get it over here in the UK.
Maybe it'll stop some of this "UniLAD/LADBible" shite.
So apparently psychology can now be conflated with anti-science. Huh.
there is a difference between lets say, physics and psychology. in physics we can throw a rock and analyze it with extreme degree's of accuracy and can even managed to control all of the base variables. you can't do that with psychology because just putting someone in an empty room, hell even LOOKING at a person is changing multitudes of variables. physics is a hard science that has firm constantly provable facts, while psychology is a lot more likely to be altered by the psychologist writing the thesis. at least with physics you can firmly call someones misinformation as bullshit with your own calculations. it's really hard to push a political ideal with physics but simple with psychology.

That doesn't mean that scientific misconduct in hard sciences get caught fast.
http://www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/33695/title/Top-Science-Scandals-of-2012/
The examples here are of scientific misconduct in hard sciences.
One guy faked data for 10 years, another faked for almost 20 years over 172 papers, and the third falsified documentation on forensics causing nearly 34000 drug cases to be put to question.
It's such a shame that our youngest men are going to be indoctrinated with misandristic concepts like consent and equality
Reword it a little bit, and certain parts of Reddit would eat that up raw.

True, but they've got to be constantly vigilant because the trashman is lurking.
Except gender studies had absolutely nothing to do with those protests
I get what some of the protesters are saying, like date rape is horrible etc etc but some of them just piss my off. Like one of chicks in the video who goes around calling men ''fucking scum'' and starts insulting the police.

ok cool once again those protests have nothing to do with gender studies but we appreciate you sharing your opinion of these unrelated protesters in a thread about gender studies in ontario

Well these are the kind of people you expect to attend these kinds of classes.
I wouldn't want to go to one.
[editline]29th April 2013[/editline]
The class seems kind of pointless to me. Most Ontario schools are severely underfunded. They recently stopped teachers from asking students for ''course fees'' in order to pay for textbooks and such. What they should do is take the funding and put it where it's needed, not make up some new courses that have very little practical applications.

you dont think educating people on the origins and effects of gender in our culture is relevant or practical in an education setting? school isn't just to teach you something to get you a job, it's to develop you as an intelligent human being. there are a lot of places to help save funding in schools, i have a feeling your issue is less about funding and more about "wah gender studies"
Why do you need a gender studies class? Guys are simple and girls will never be understood. That's all you need to know and classes like these are just a part of the liberal agenda.

Have you ever been to a high school in Ontario?
%96 of the teachers here would agree adding new courses would be a bad idea, they got rid of photography at my school last semester because of it.
It's unnecessary.

why would you compare photography to women studies lol
it says so right there in the post as quoted
“Instead of talking about what the girl did and how ‘she had this coming to her,’ the focus might have been on ‘how these guys go through life not knowing about consent?’ ” says Lara Shkordoff.
“It would have provided a safe space for students to talk about these things,” says Sarah Ghabrial
when a depressing number of people think rape is okay in specific circumstances and people like suddenimpact, dain & etc. posting biotruth bullshit, i think it warrants gender studies class yeah
%97 of people will agree!
why would you compare photography to women studies lol

No I'm not comparing the two. I'm saying the schools are so underfunded that they've been getting rid of courses to cut back and now they want to add some extra course that will make matters even worse.
[editline]29th April 2013[/editline]
There's fucking sewage leaking from the ceiling in my english class.

Cut the crap with the biotruth. To analyze why gender roles exist we have to go back to the roots of society and the evolution of humans itself. You can't solve a problem if you don't know why a problem persists. If you abolish a theory just because you are biased against it, you are not taking the whole picture into account. And that my friend isn't the scientific approach. You want a different example why this is bad at solving problems?
And if you would look at Norway, the most gender equal country in the world, they still have women primarily taking jobs that center around human interactions while men primarily take technical jobs.

just because a country is called the 'most gender equal' ( i like how they based off this statistic on simply laws regarding gender equality and not necessarily the social context how genders interact & the social construct ) country in the world doesn't necessarily suddenly wipe away eras of conditioning women of how men should see them??
do you not notice the annoying third wave feminism kitchen warriors that apparently yap too much are kind of you know, recent
you can't get away with that shit during the old days, and it's been recent centuries where women have been gradually killing off the gender stereotype to the point where everyone is getting mad something is going improper?
pre-agriculture revolution - gender equality, both sexes hunted and got food
after all that shit - western women should be proper, chinese women at birth are given shard of a pot to inform them the life of hardship, etc
19-21st century feminism - shit gets challenged, everyone panic!
its not necessary 'evolution' or 'biology', its also about social conditioning
and its almost as if we should have a gender studies class for stuff like this, to actually you know, discuss what we're discussing about
I don't get this thing about norway being the most gender equal society
it's always something that people say right before mentioning something about norway that indicates a real lack of gender equality
"hey guys you know norway is the most gender equal society in the world and women aren't allowed to vote there so maybe that's how it should be"
(hyperbole)
