They had one these at one of the McDonald's near me around 10 years ago.
Well, good.
Will make it faster for the customers.
And before you go all "Oh but think of the jobs"
We have no fastfood places in our town, only two super markets, and 8 retail stores. and some-how none of us have a problem finding jobs. Must be that darned free college education.
You know, the hardest places to find jobs aren't in towns like that, it's in the city.
I didn't imply that these are the first jobs to go, that's not the issue. The issue is we don't need any more of these jobs to be automated. When you're studying, especially in this town, there are very few jobs you can move into. You can work for a supermarket, either Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys or Morrisons. This is fine, but now they've also started using self checkouts. Even getting a job at Sainsburys is tough due to the benefits you get working there. Not only are you fighting against other students to get a job there but also mothers and the elderly.
You could also move into retail, again, this is high competition. There are about 200 shops in this town, each with about two positions going a year. There's not even any factory work to do. Every process that becomes needlessly automated just to save money that companies ten years ago managed to not save is making one kid's life tougher.
As a point of reference, there are three McDonalds in this town.
Needlessly? The automation of the entire production, service and manufacturing sectors are just what the world needs. Although with the current economical system it will become a problem at some point in the future.

that's pretty rude
These would be better than the cashiers here. On the rare occasion I go to McDonalds I always have to order at least 3 times before they get my order right.
That's good though, you get free food for their fuckups.

Fucking finally. I sick of having some pimply necked kid fuck up my order all the time.
the less human hands touch my food the better
If you are really worried about people touching your food, why would you eat McDonalds in the first place?

You could have linked it or scaled it when you were making it.
Pretty much like a Sheetz.

It creates jobs for people with a Computer Science degree.
So long, suckers.
Hi I'm Commander Shepard and McDonald's is my favorite restaurant on the Citadel.

It will probably make a new POSITION (ie someone to undo any muck-ups on the machine's/customer's part like the self-checkouts at Wal-Mart), but as for actual positions to be FILLED I call bullshit. They're doing this to try and save money, so why would you hire thumb-in-nose high-schoolers to run a register that's customer operated when one semi-decently trained monkey can do it?
I also predict customers will only be frustrated by these machines, if Wal-Mart's taught me anything. I personally liked the self-checkouts when they first came out because I was the only one who used them, so I could be in and out in 5 minutes. Then other people started using them and the shit hit the fan. People don't catch on to stuff like this as quickly as you'd think, at least not the types you typically see in Wal-Mart/McDonald's.
Ah corporatism.
The local Wal-Mart, and possibly the entire chain, is phasing out full time workers so they do not have to provide benefits.
My grandmother who has worked there for 7 years and her friend who has worked there for 25 are basically being told to go away.
In america we already have these types of machines at markets and other goods stores. They work fine and only require one person to supervise 8-12 automated checkout lanes. This is a similar concept and I imagine will work just as flawlessly.
I always prefer self-Checkout it is faster and saves the store money on payroll which saves me money on goods.
I've yet to see any applicable savings since the introduction of the self-checkout. If anything they just put that in, have less people working, charge the SAME amount, make MORE money per-purchase. Hooray capitalism!
Instead of doing this shit, maybe they should improve the little voice boxes in the drive throughs. "mumblemumble*static*mumble*static" "What?!" "mumble*static*mumblemumble"
Maybe the McDonalds I work as just isn't as bad but my god you guys are crybabies. Oh durr hurr, 1 in every 50 through 70 orders has a small mistake and we always end up fixing it for free as fast as we can, what retarded dumpasses. lets just replace them with machines that are bound to fuck up even worse and require we call repairmen over just to get working again.
I always get the wrong order, or they forget to put in half the shit i paid for.
In with the bots.
next step is replacing the people eating there with robots
then the society will be perfect

When I went to McDonalds the cashier didn't appear to know the difference between a 'Double Sausage & Egg McMuffin' and 'Two Sausage & Egg McMuffins'. After getting two of them and charging me for both, I asked for my money back for one of them.
She gave me all my money back and still gave me both.
The amount of people who handle money on a daily basis and can't properly count money, something they teach as early as the 1st grade, makes me worry about America's future.
This is already in Jack in the Box.
state-of-the-art touch-screen terminals
AKA normal touchscreen terminals.
Boo hoo the jobs. People have complained about machinery replacing their jobs for centuries.
I'd rather pay by cash, sure something automated might be faster but I don't want to arse around with my debit card when I want something to eat especially if I'm paying for something that's under a tenner and I have cash with me, I've seen people before buying stuff that's came to a couple of quid and they paid by card.
Not everybody likes to carry around a wallet stuffed with cash. What's wrong with paying by card? It's faster, easier and you don't have to find an ATM before going to buy your stuff.
This is why tech-savvy people will be the ones with jobs as we'll be fixing the machines.
I mean I am basically a shelf-filler. But I'm also repairing the printers, photocopiers, and computers. Even though I'm not supposed to.
So, wait, you're like the janitor from Good Will Hunting? You're just going through the room, zoning out the shelves and cleaning up a bit, when you see a printer with a really difficult problem that's stumped the official printer-repairmen and printer doctors for days. You look around to make sure nobody's watching, then deftly repair the printer and carry on about your business.
I've seen this before in Fine Burger restaurant in London!
it's not a new idea... they have touch screens with the entire menu and all kinds of games.
it's very nice, and i heard it's now popular to use iPad menus, which is really cool. never tried it though. all made by a company named Conceptic. i wonder if McDonalds also working with them. see here:
http://www.emenu-international.com/iPadMenu
I have been in charge of watch "U-scan" terminals before in stores, in theory they would greatly increase checkout time; but sadly most people seem to find a way to get confused and it slows down everyone.
Plus if they are like our self cashiering stations here they are going to have a lot of problems with power outages, language barriers, disabled individuals, and sanitation.
Also am I the only guy who just wants to used cash when I am getting a drink? (I don really like their food so I really only get drinks from mcdonalds) Why would I use a debit card for less than $5.00?
Then it comes to America.

Why only hispanics? It's also stereotyping to assume that hispanics only work low-paying jobs like McDonalds. Are you racist?
Technology replacing all the boring manual work is a good thing, if you ask me
Burger King > McDonalds
