I never had a problem with McDonald's cashiers, but I'm interested how this will work. [editline]31st October 2011[/editline]
Why only hispanics? It's also stereotyping to assume that hispanics only work low-paying jobs like McDonalds. Are you racist?
Is it racist saying only Turkish own kebab shops? Or that only Asians own China restaurants? Because it's true in most cases.

this is just like what they did to the cinema where i live. they replaced all the ticket vendors with touch pad machines, and theyre much nicer
I'm a little sceptical about how this is supposed to make things drastically quicker. Pretty sure this is more for the company to phase out some of its employees. Provided everything goes to plan, machines are a lot easier to maintain than employees, and they don't have a list of demands and rights.
This reminds me of Idiocracy how when they go to the hospital and they just press a button for whatever affliction the person is having.
I hope this doesn't come to America because the last thing we need is even more people unemployed.
That's just the problem with American thinking: You can't give jobs to most of these unemployed, in the last 10 years we have had so many robots and computer systems replace jobs, and in times of economic strife, the biggest progress in machine labor is always made, guess what, these guys won't get jobs, get over it, and move on to other problems in the country. Let's not forget overseas jobs and illegal immigrant workers, as well as Corporate using modern technology to find unneeded jobs and removing them (Are statistics finding methods are way better than say the 80's).
Reminded me of that one jimmy neutron episode
About damn time, now I can cut down my human interaction to an absolute bare minimum.
Sounds like an excuse to lay some people off and save money. Can't wait to be stuck in line behind some old person that not only wants double pickles and two drops of mustard on their half a cheeseburger, but also has to figure out how to operate technology. Good thing I eat at McDonalds a total of about five times a year.
These would be better than the cashiers here. On the rare occasion I go to McDonalds I always have to order at least 3 times before they get my order right.
People always say this, but I think I've gotten a wrong order, like, once.
I was at the Fuddrucker's near me yesterday and instead of the standard drink machines they had a week ago, they had these things called "Coca-Cola Freestyles". It's a huge machine with a touch screen and it has EVERY KIND OF COKE DRINK EVER. Over 100 choices. Every kind of Coke, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, etc. Fucking TECHNOLOGY.

No business is going to use old obsolete methods of doing things just for the sake of appealing to tradition. It's the way forward, technological advancement is inevitable, not just in this case but for everything.
This reminds me of that Jimmy Neutron episode where everything was electronic.
They stand to make a lot of money by not directing people towards deals. Where I work, Target food, the combos make a medium drink about 80 cents cheaper than the same with a small. The cashiers only suggest it because we want people to save money.
wow fuck automerge [editline]31st October 2011[/editline]
I was at the Fuddrucker's near me yesterday and instead of the standard drink machines they had a week ago, they had these things called "Coca-Cola Freestyles". I'd personally love the human interaction. My friend works there as manager and gives me free food.. Who will give me free food now?! D:
i originally started off in the kitchen, but now because im being fast-tracked to management i need to learn window(order taking), drive thru, McCafe, and overnights stuff. i personally hate taking orders and having this technology will eliminate a LOT of labour needed to run the front counter and service areas of the store. also OPs source is invalid.
Then it comes to America. Suddenly 1000's of hispanics are without a job. they say it will create new jobs, but thats a load of shit.
Is that why I can't find a job? D:
Has no-one noticed the massive bump?
Then it comes to America. Suddenly 1000's of hispanics are without a job. they say it will create new jobs, but thats a load of shit.
this is so blatantly racist its not even funny
The next step- Want to order a Big Mac or Royale with cheese? There's an app for that.
this is so blatantly racist its not even funny
Agreed, what the hell were you thinking that there's no such thing as Spanish people on the internet?
I love using the ipad ordering systems at the Tin Drum restaurants in atlanta.
Oh my God, they have cherry vanilla. I hope it doesn't taste like shit compared to canned soda like normal soda dispensers do.
it's wicked cool, it mixes the syrup with the sodawater as it's coming out of the spout, but it's backlit so you get this magnificent display of swirling colors going into your cup
They can get a job fixing the machines :3
Suddenly, giant mechanical and digitalized burger vending machines. Unmanned American Vending I know someone's gonna be a slobby asshole and get bacon grease all over the touchscreen
This is what's cool about being in Computer Science. I get the job of automating other peoples' jobs. That's job security.
