I wonder if it's a similar reaction to seeing one vomit, it can cause you to gag. Maybe seeing someone faint can cause you to also faint?

Basically, it's a really weird mix of peer pressure, hysteria and hypocondriacy where one person has a sudden problem (seizure, fainting, etc) and people around that person also freak out and start believing they're also suffering from the same problem, effectively spreading the idea that everyone is somehow having the same problem. This isn't the first time it's happened and it's always weird as fuck when it does. People will tend to believe they're sick if they see people around them be sick, to the point their bodies will start suffering from symptoms coming from diseases they never had.

When the Russians attacked that theater to save those hostages, using that gas to knock everyone out, the reason so many died was because they were laid on their back and they drowned in their own vomit.
