I felt incredibly stupid when I watched that video.
Not really, care to point at socially inept loners who become people you read about in history books?
The fact is, he's going to be little more then an organic computer to his peers.
allot of geniuses through out history, like Einstein and Newton
Yea there are also autistic kids who run around naked moaning all day with no comprehension of even 1 + 1.
Autism=/=down syndrome=/=mental retardation
Those kids are probably also afflicted with other conditions, or have a very extreme form of autism. Majority of autistic people are normal people, they just don't walk around telling people (or sometimes even know themselves). The ones who are called autistic are the "crazy" naked ones running around.
I'd like to see a little bit more about what he's actually amazing for: his theories. Half the article is bla bla autistic bla bla smart bla bla wow look at that
I've been reading a bunch of stories about him and a lot of them have been silly and sensationalist. When the kid is talking about things the reporter doesn't understand they seem to just go "OKAY KID'S A GENIUS" and throw up their hands and don't try to verify his claims. You can see it in this article when they claim his IQ is higher than Einstein's. As far as I'm aware Einstein never took an IQ test, and if he did we may not know his score regardless.
Most IQ tests go till 150 I think...
Most IQ tests go till 150 I think...
Nah, they go higher.
De writes on the windows like that guy from "A beautiful mind"
Its a shame that he will never be able to publish his results.
Because if he goes into a press conference, he'll just scream and throw his own shit at the crowd.
I honestly kind of feel bad for the kid. He's already in college, he'll spend his teen years and beyond developing his theories.
He'll likely never have a full, pleasing life.
There are more goals to be fulfilled in life than the ones you personally aspire to.

He's a 12-year-old, not a chimpanzee. I think you read the wrong article.
What a pompous ass hole.
i was way fucking worse at his age
he's practically a fucking gentleman of providence
i was way fucking worse at his age

He's H.P. Lovecraft?
But then he turns 13, loses his virginity and starts using drugs.
Can't wait till he makes a very important discovery.
Every cell in my body is screaming in mathematical agony when I watched the video. I hope he is not serious, multiplication of du and dx all around his equations.
That's just a formalism and I hope he knows that.
He doesn't seem really weird either.
This kid has more social ability than half of facepunch.
That video wasn't particularily complex, but the physics stuff is very interesting, looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.
However most child prodigies are smart but then are never heard of after a few years...
You guys are socially inept if you can't communicate with a "socially inept" person.
Or you're just not used to it.
"You guys are physically inept if you're unable to walk with a person who has no legs."
It's interesting how some inviduals are diagnosed as "different" because they are smarter than people around them.
the only issue i take with this is the
"IQ higher than einstein"
there are a shitload of people with higher IQs than einstein
that isn't really an accomplishment
he was a 160, and there are people even in the 200s, and tons still above 160
hell, there are tons above his IQ, 170.
IQ is generally a silly measure
I scored higher than him on the IQ, graduated at 16, and there's no way I could have done that by his age. I still don't know what the hell he's talking about. The IQ test is good for the census, but not good for an individual.
These are the times that sometimes make me wish I was a savant.
It's interesting how some inviduals are diagnosed as "different" because they are smarter than people around them.
Well, that would technically make you different.
I bet he's an asshole in real life.
God it's like one of those TV shows with the smart ass kid who acts nice around the media and shit, then becomes a straight ass to everyone around him.
Watched a bit of the video. I don't care much about manually doing calculus. As a computer scientiest, I'd just churn out a program that does it and then not give a shit about the details of solving integrals ever again.
That's what this kid needs to do.

That is the lame way of doing things and a terrible idea if you ever want to create an original thought. A clear picture of what an integral is, what the integral or derivative of a certain function would look like, and what its physical significance is is invaluable for someone doing research at the forefronts of mathematical science.
And where is this law?
doubt it. Their social abilities are close to none. They're extremely intelligent, but they're retarded (using actual definition of 'retarded' here).
Now I'm jelly.
I dislike the whole IQ gambit, mensa, etc.
Artists are intelligent in their own right, as are Mathematicians, yet under the banner of IQ, one may 'rank' significantly lower than the other. The only use I've seen of IQ is to dictate that someone is 'a lolgenius' to the mass media, and to provide food for people to boast about their 'superior intellect' due to having a higher IQ.
I think the real intelligent people are ones whom have control of their own minds, are willing to look deeper than face value at the wonders that this universe holds and enjoys thought, no matter how zany or creative, or logical, or theoretical.
People who boast about their intellect are clearly not intelligent, or they'd be spending more time thinking, and less time wasting the valuable and precious little time we have here on earth, before we are subject to eternal darkness, arguing about trivial bullshit.
According to the Wikipedia article his IQ score was from a Math-only IQ test.
Oh shit.
He actually seems to be able to converse and all normally in the video. He doesn't come across as a socially crippled weirdo.

He's 12 years old for fuck's sake.

But far from complaining, Jake has turned the sleepless nights to his advantage - debunking the big bang theory.

Uhhh prove it. Where is this 'debunking'?
