I dislike the whole IQ gambit, mensa, etc.
Artists are intelligent in their own right, as are Mathematicians, yet under the banner of IQ, one may 'rank' significantly lower than the other. The only use I've seen of IQ is to dictate that someone is 'a lolgenius' to the mass media, and to provide food for people to boast about their 'superior intellect' due to having a higher IQ.
I think the real intelligent people are ones whom have control of their own minds, are willing to look deeper than face value at the wonders that this universe holds and enjoys thought, no matter how zany or creative, or logical, or theoretical.
People who boast about their intellect are clearly not intelligent, or they'd be spending more time thinking, and less time wasting the valuable and precious little time we have here on earth, before we are subject to eternal darkness, arguing about trivial bullshit.
I used to be paranoid about how intelligent I am because I'm doing science at uni (will probably eventually go for a Ph.D in theoretical or mathematical physics), and, of course, I want to be able to do brilliant things as a scientist. I actually want to discover new stuff and satisfy my curiosity. I don't just want to be some lab assistant checking over stuff.
But then I realised one day... fuck it. I don't give a shit what my IQ is. If I find out it's lower than all of the people I aspire to be as good as then that knowledge may hinder me. If I'm told I'm good, but not exceptional, I might feel like it's pointless to ever aim for anything exceptional.
And, conversely, if my IQ is incredibly high, like 160+, I may feel that I'll instantly be good at anything I do in my field so I might not put much effort into anything.
So fuck it. I don't care what my IQ is. I'm gonna set the bar as high as I can, and I'm gonna try my damn hardest to hit it (and, hell, if I can; surpass it). I'm not gonna let some number dictate my life.
Why do I feel like I'm the only autistic person around whose gifted technological abilities are no good in modern applications or theory?
Why do I feel like I'm the only autistic person around whose gifted technological abilities are no good in modern applications or theory?
What abilities are those?
What abilities are those?
The ability to build a QBus backplane for a 1982 DIGITAL PDP-11 minicomputer by hand or know how to manaully repartition a hard drive loaded with Irix whose original partition geometry had been lost when a sector went bad in the volume header yet be unable to do even simple division without the aid of a calculator and fail to even know how to switch between apps on an iPod Touch.
My abilities are of no use to anyone in modern times which is why I have a job that's sub-minimum wage and offers no dental or medical.

This, entirely. Effort (with opportunity and some genetic disposition to memory retention, or critical thinking or any other benefit) is a far greater determinant than anything else.

Yea, and whats the difference between a heavily autistic child and a monkey.
Nothing. They both have equivalent communication skills.

What about repairing legacy systems for large telecommunication companies?
I think there are a range of roles you would be decent at.
Of course, it may be rather difficult to actually get those roles.
lets all become his friend

And con him out of money!
Daily mail
Well, disregard what I said earlier.
I interpreted that wrong, after watching the video he actually really seems to enjoy math. I don't think I'd be able to tell that he was autistic if I talked to him honestly.

Perhaps you talking to him about something else?
maybe if I stopped fapping I could be like him.....

I'm a weeaboo, deal with it.
atleast i'm not as hardcore as most weeaboos.
I am half asian but I'd rather count myself as a weeaboo.
maybe if I stayed off the internet I would be like that boy.
eh, I'm not even mad though, I don't care about what you say about me.

that was gibberish you can't just build a QBus backplane on a PDP-11 without an optical interface unit, silly. you will need to reorganize the central organization unit on the x-axis of the virtual confoubletron in the micro-fapping unit.
if you're gonna try to impress us with your obvious pretend knowledge, at least make sure it checks out, GOSH

that's ok I watch anime sumtimes 2
I don't know why everyone is feeling so sorry for him.
My IQ is only 4 points under his, but I just don't have the drive towards anything I have come across like that (so far atleast).
I was doing some self research and discovered I have alot of the symptoms of ASD, But all throught my life I made it my job to be as much of a "normal" person as I could.
Looking back this day I'd trade being "normal" just to have the messed up dedication to a subject and be able to perfect some form of study.
All in all I think he's one of the luckiest people alive to have this gift and also have the ability to use it.

how the fuck does this even I don't know how to why do we even try at this point to be anything
"Otherwise, the carbon would have to be coming out of the stars and hence the Earth, made mostly of carbon, we wouldn't be here. So I calculated, the time it would take to create 2 percent of the carbon in the universe, it would actually have to be several micro-seconds. Or a couple of nano-seconds, or something like that. An extremely small period of time. Like faster than a snap. That isn't gonna happen."
"Because of that," he continued, "that means that the world would have never been created because none of the carbon would have been given 7 billion years to fuse together. We'd have to be 21 billion years old . . . and that would just screw everything up."
So, we had to ask.
If not the big bang, then how did the universe come about?
"I'm still working on that," he said. "I have an idea, but . . . I'm still working out the details."
Despite the Wikipedia article and several sources I'm having trouble believing this is real.
If this were the case, educated professionals would have already found this out.
Good for him

They require various certifications which require a post secondary education. With my lack of math skills coupled with my inability to afford said education, employment in the legacy hardware mainteneace field is not in my reach.
Anyways, I'm not going to get into how my life sucks here.
I find it a bit concerning that searching this name on Google turns up only articles from March 20th 2011 or later. You'd think a person of this caliber would be in the news much more often.
I'm going to wait at bit before giving this a stamp of legitimacy.
EDIT: Dug up his youtube account. This actually seems legit.
Holy shit he could make like a billion dollars in like a day and help out Japan.
Daily Mail what have you done... know he's forever doomed to be one of those child geniuses raved about in sensationalist media and never heard from again.

Exactly, this is what I'm talking about.
Facepunch/the Internet is awesome in the way that it stimulates thought through the sheer amount of opinion, logic, discussion and individual points raised, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
Remain free-thinking my friends, and reap the benefits of a much more fulfilled and 'successful' life.
not to try to be showy, but if schools did their job right, im sure myself and many other FPers would be on par with this kid. education needs a rework.
I agree, especially in the case of maths. Trying to brute force knowledge onto people just doesn't work unless the person was good at maths in the first place.
Holy shit he could make like a billion dollars in like a day and help out Japan.
Doing what? Designing a legit money printing machine? :v:
And even with proper education we still wouldnt be as 'intelligent' as this kid, yeah we could learn to do the things that he knows how to do, but he'd still be able to learn a hundred times faster than us and solve problems much faster.
he has Autism.
Shit never mind, I forgot that aspergers Is a sub-form of Autism.
Funny I never talked till I was 4, Maybe I am the SUPER genius.
Nope you're just an idiot.
it's awesome but kinda sad at the same time.
I mean it doesn't seem like he can ever just be a kid
My bestfriend's little brother is autistic, and he sits on his fat, smelly ass all fucking day playing video games showing no god damn sign of intelligence whatsoever he's been held back twice. Autistic children hardly ever get the chance to "just be a kid" seeing as they are retarded.
[editline]26th March 2011[/editline]
Also, for the ill-informed, the term "retarded" is a legitimate use of terminology to describe someone who is autistic. The term "retard" is an actual word, with an actual meaning, and is only derogatory if used in an offensive manner.
