what i'm trying to say is that federal government should expand to serve the people regardless of what the constitution says i will agree that the constitution's ideas were vital to the united states but we cannot let a piece of paper override progress
Progress? It's not exactly like we're behind. Americans have a higher income overall than other countries and spend less on average on food and necessities leaving more for... whatever turns them on I guess. Believe it or not, a lot of people like it this way and feel like we're ahead rather than behind. I'm not saying I think that especially now that it seems to be going downhill.
In what aspects? All that needs to be changed will be amended. Though the part where it says that treaties are above the law of the land is retarded.
Oh the second amendment for sure. Even if we don't get rid of it we need to clarify it so we know exactly what the hell it means. We need to get rid of unlimited terms for members of congress and incorporate a right to privacy. I'm sure there's a bunch of other things but I'm tired right now. The point is we were supposed to have constitutional conventions every 20 years where we would look at what works and what doesn't, but instead we pass an amendment every 30 years ago that changes one little thing but leaves most of the constitution dated. [editline]03:23AM[/editline] I'm off too bed, I don't even remember why we were arguing about this now :v:
lankist would like to speak with you
he does sometimes
he does sometimes
I mean regarding what you just said about the constitution
No there are many other things that need to be added. Such as the power of the government to provide a public health service and a right to privacy. There are things they didn't or couldn't think about 200 years ago that need to be incorporated into the constitution.
There is a right to privacy, just not in the Constitution. The legal term is "reasonable expectation of privacy". That basically means that if you're in a setting that you can expect privacy you have a right to it. An unreasonable expectation of privacy is pretty much shouting something like "I wear pink underwear" in the middle of shopping mall. I believe that there are tons of rights that all people have, even if they aren't listed in the Constitution. The founding fathers believed that too, thats why the Bill of Rights wasn't included in the beginning because Rights can't be given by governments, only taken away. Adding them to the Constitution does make them harder to take away though. And why do people hate the 2nd Amendment so much. :colbert:
it feels like a leftover from an age long past [editline]12:50AM[/editline] I'm assuming
The constitution is still widely in use. the only amendment that is out dated 100% is the third one, "No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law." Also, the only place states can officially break from the union is during a constitutional convention. So states can leave and make another country if the need be. Although it'd be hard as shit, but other countries might help to make the USA weaker.
Yeah but everyone gets one vote, it doesn't matter how passionate you are about something. If people were properly educated on what which party actually wants to do, the tea parties would be irrelevant. [editline]12:59AM[/editline] It takes 3 minutes to realize that most republican ideals and the people that support them are full of shit.
Or logic instead of emotion :D
liberal terrists?
And why do people hate the 2nd Amendment so much. :colbert:
I don't hate it I just think it needs some review since concealed carry and huge ass guns that can decimate large crowds of people in seconds weren't thought of then. Basically I'm still all for keeping a gun in your home for defense, which was the original intent.
And why do people hate the 2nd Amendment so much. :colbert:
Because it confuses the hell out of everyone with the militia part and we have things like machine guns and RPGs that need to be given a context within the second amendment. Should people be allowed to own guns, or just the state militia? Also, what kind of arms should they be allowed to have? Does the average citizen have a right to own an rpg7 and an m60? It doesn't need to be removed but it definitely needs to be updated for the 21st century. I also think net neutrality should be added in somewhere. Now there's an amendment for the 21st century.
How did the CEO get to being a CEO? Do you seriously think that he was born one or what? He paid his dues. He worked his way up the ladder. He was probably a blue collar worker when he first started out and worked his way up by working hard. So you're saying he doesn't deserve the nice things he has because why again?
or maybe his Father was the CEO and handed it down to him when he retired, the world will be a lot fairer place when people get pied by their contributions to society rather than luck and friends.
or maybe his Father was the CEO and handed it down to him when he retired, the world will be a lot fairer place when people get pied by their contributions to society rather than luck and friends.
Corporations aren't monarchies. CEOs get elected by the stock holders.
Corporations aren't monarchies. CEOs get elected by the stock holders.
but the stock market is a wild and unreasonable entity that fluctuates on whims, unfounded fears, and punishes corporations that attempt to right wrongs (remember when BP's stock spiraled downwards after they announced they would pay some of the claims made against them?). The stock market isn't a meritocracy, it's a series of dice rolls that are loaded against people with social responsibility. [editline]01:36PM[/editline] The irresponsibility and shortsightedness of stock brokers is what got us into this financial mess. People argue over whose fault it is that they got away with it, but everyone agrees that short-selling and subprime mortgages that were tied to the whims and changes of the market are what caused the crash at it's core.

If we needed to amend it to add services, we would, but we don't. Article 1, section 8 allows for most services. What about it do you find so outdated? Specifically please.
With all this teabagging you'd think American politics has turned into a round of Halo
The Constitution is a very flexible document. If we needed to amend it to add services, we would, but we don't. Article 1, section 8 allows for most services. I gave him a tick mark [editline]07:22PM[/editline] does that count
you're a generalizing idiot.
There is like nothing redeeming about conservatives [editline]09:25AM[/editline]
Oh yes because you've totally talked to a ton of republicans.
uh, you're part of that zombiefreak [editline]09:26AM[/editline]
Carter.
oh no, attempts at peace and a relatively stable economy you REALLY think Carter was REMOTELY near Bush? sweet jesus
A liberal tea party? What, are they drinking fair trade organic tea?
Hey guys, I have a question, can we have a real actual fucking democracy with multiple parties instead of this bullshit 2 party system we have?
Hey guys, I have a question, can we have a real actual fucking democracy with multiple parties instead of this bullshit 2 party system we have?
Well there's a lot of ignorant folks in the US, and if there was a party that branched to far to the left, they'd be accused of being socialists and then probably demonized by the tea party, and if a party leaned too far to the right, they'd be accused of being fascists or extreme conservatives, regardless of how true it might be.
I don't hate it I just think it needs some review since concealed carry and huge ass guns that can decimate large crowds of people in seconds weren't thought of then. Basically I'm still all for keeping a gun in your home for defense, which was the original intent.
The intent was resistance against corrupt governments.
Hey guys, I have a question, can we have a real actual fucking democracy with multiple parties instead of this bullshit 2 party system we have?
It's the in the UK, if you don't vote labour or conservative then it's pretty much a wasted vote. Shit sucks hard, I wanted the Liberal Democrats in :saddowns:
So did I. My dad came from there. He was a card-carring member too.
Article I Section 8 isn't that flexible. It's a list of everything the Congress can do. If it's not there, it can't be done.
Necessary and proper clause. Also, the 10th amendment is very flexible, in terms of state laws, and the feds can influence the states through funding. Example: 21 year old drinking age.
Why would we make our own tea party when we can just laugh at the gigantic failure that is the fox news rallies?
Regardless of how stupid they are, they're amassing an incredible amount of supporters. Which is never a good thing.
you're a generalizing idiot.
He's really, really not. If you identify with a certain political party, there's a pretty good chance that you.. y'know.. share the same political viewpoints as them, on most subjects.
A liberal tea party? What, are they drinking fair trade organic tea?
It's funny because teabaggers probably don't know what tea is.
