I suppose if we got this working with humans and managed to find a way to transfer brain patterns from one brain to another (effectively copying personalities), then we could come up with something that could extend human life far longer than normal.
The problem is that there's more 'coulds' and 'ifs' than 'we can's.

Actually, we "cloned" sheep using basic In Vitro Fertilization techniques. This is a different kind of cloning. The sheep stuff was an effort to improve upon the idea of In Vitro Fertilization, what is currently used to assist sterile or homosexual couples in having children.
This could relatively solve world hunger.
And imagine what we could do to extinct species if we could obtain a body with it. The Thylacine could live again!
This is another step up from that, instead of using an artificially fertilized egg they are using Stem Cell techniques.

Also the article clearly states this still requires a surrogate mother, which means "building an army" is still far beyond out of the question. To raise a thousand soldiers you would need a thousand living, healthy and capable mothers. And the children would, for all intents and purposes, be the same as every other child, save for having a similar DNA signature to somebody else. Even ignoring the scientific infeasibility AND the time constraints, "growing" soldiers like this would be more expensive and less efficient than a normal old draft. Not to mention breaking just about every human right ever written.

Hmmm, this is quite a jump forward for China. All we need now is a computer that can code DNA to create a blueprint for a new lifeform, and we're all set for the Genetic Age.
This has a lot of uses, but it they can't use it to create soldiers. It would be like having more children except they are all the same.
