• Windows 7/8 updates makes it spy on you like Windows 10
These updates have been out now for a few weeks, and they're optional. And Windows 7 and 8 have the ability to hide updates. So the solution is to continue doing nothing.
You do realize that every single time you go to update Windows 7/8 it will attempt to download those updates and force you to uncheck them literally every single time, right? You shouldn't have to go out of your way to actively avoid something like this. It simply should not ever be a concern in the first place.
If the NSA want to watch me fap to Lolis that's their loss
What the fuck?
Blame Facepunch for blocking out the actual source I pasted it all from. It had a virus keyword in it or something.
Can you name the source? I know Facepunch has some words that get censored but they're not common words. [editline]25th August 2015[/editline] Wait I found it. http://••••••••••••••••••/2015/08/new-windows-788-1-updates-spy-on-you-just-like-windows-10.html [editline]25th August 2015[/editline] Oh wow it does censor it. I wonder why. I know Facepunch censors the name of a hacking group but it's the first time I see a news website censored. It's probably one of those news sites that sue people that post their articles on other websites, garry got sued for that once.
All these updates are optional and wont harm your PC if you dont install them. To stop your Windows 7/8/8.1 PC from downloading these updates, go to your Windows Update, click on the check box besides this updates and hide them.
From the same (blocked) source.
they've had telemetry stuff since Vista anyway why does it matter so much? if you're so concerned about privacy go install Linux or something where you have absolute control and knowledge over the system :v:
Yeah install Linux so you don't get datamined. [sp]I'm totally not using Chrome[/sp]
Just checked my Windows Update and those updates are indeed on the Optionals tab so, so far, they aren't forced updates.

I have no idea why.
What the fuck?
Welcome to the internet, where people are into anime and other things. Stop pretending to be shocked lmao.
Good. I get lonely when I masturbate.
I honestly stopped caring at this point. There is literally nothing to worry about unless you're doing something seriously illegal.
If they want to watch me, go ahead. There's a few tags on E621 that can fuck with them for a bit.
I honestly stopped caring at this point. There is literally nothing to worry about unless you're doing something seriously illegal.
you have no idea what theyre doing with the information. not to sound paranoid but in the age of governments and companies trying to spy on absolutely everyone, do you really want to just accept something as fundamental as your OS datamining you?
How exactly can we stop them anyway?
How exactly can we stop them anyway?
protest? switch OSes? express concern? do pretty much anything besides sitting back and accepting it.
protest? switch OSes? express concern? do pretty much anything besides sitting back and accepting it.
The hell is switching OSes going to do? Google is tracking everything you do on their services. Your ISP is tracking everything you do. The government is tracking your phone calls and text messages. Accept it. If you have nothing to hide then you have no reason to worry. None of these companies care about your personal endeavors.
Yeah install Linux so you don't get datamined. [sp]I'm totally not using Chrome[/sp]
Depends on what kind of distro. Ubuntu is basically same deal, it collects information too. For a totally safe from snooping system I'd go for Arch or Debian.
Accept it. If you have nothing to hide then you have no reason to worry. None of these companies care about your personal endeavors.
Just because you have nothing to hide doesn't mean you should be okay with an intrusion of your privacy.
Just because you have nothing to hide doesn't mean you should be okay with an intrusion of your privacy.
I'm not okay with it, but why stress over something so incredibly pointless? You would have no idea that you're being datamined if these sensationalist headlines weren't shoving it in your face every month. All it does is stir up the fear in people. What are you going to do? Protest against Microsoft, Google, your ISP, and the government?

That's a totally different level. Not to mention you can block all connections to Google with an extension. Windows has no competition, and Linux desktops aren't considered competition by anyone other than enthusiasts. Protest against Microsoft, Google, your ISP, and the government?
So basically you're saying that the headlines are bad because it makes people aware of the situation? If Microsoft was a bit more transparent about this nonsense, we'd likely have no issue, but instead we're playing connect the dots between these news headlines and their (formerly) secret affiliation with the US government and the packets being sniffed out by external programs.
I think it's funny that everyone gave Microsoft shit for doing this with a videogame console, but with an operating system that is essential for 90% of professional software? Who cares, the thought of them looking up a fetish site is funny anyways.

Cause that only serves to suggest to them it's okay to keep going with it.

fuck you microsoft for figuring out what people use and improving on that to focus your efforts. literally hitler. also this article is full of buzzwords and the epitome of sensationalism.
fuck you microsoft for figuring out what people use and improving on that to focus your efforts. literally hitler. also this article is full of buzzwords and the epitome of sensationalism.
Then they should do it in a manner more similar to that of Mozilla with Firefox. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/firefox/#telemetry The telemetry one is the only one that might gather any information that would actually invade anyone's privacy (and that's only a possibility since sometimes the telemetry function adds or removes some telemetry functions depending on what information they need currently) and it's disabled by default in the stable release of Firefox. I enable it there because they're transparent about it and don't try to force it on anyone. If Microsoft would bother being transparent about what they gather and how it's used and didn't try to force it on everyone then there's a fair chance I wouldn't have a problem with it there either. The issue is not necessarily that they want information. It's that they're not clear what information they want nor how it is being utilized. They should also make the most intrusive information gathering stuff off by default.
and why are you randomly assuming that the information they gather is "incredibly intrusive"
and why are you randomly assuming that the information they gather is "incredibly intrusive"
I think you missed an important part about transparency. You should consider going back and more carefully reading what I said.
How much more transparent do they need to be? They're not going to go viewing your browsing habits, they're interested in their products usage.
