ROME — An Italian woman who declared in an internet posting that she owed her life to medicines developed from testing on laboratory mice has gone on national television to answer abuse from animal rights militants
.
Caterina Simonsen, 25, received insults and abuse, which politicians rushed to condemn, after posting a defense of animal testing on Facebook.
"Without it, I would have died when I was nine," wrote Simonsen, whose story has dominated Italian newspapers and television reports.
One anti-vivisection activist responded on Facebook."You could die tomorrow. I wouldn't sacrifice my goldfish for you." Another commented: "If you had died as a child, no-one would have given a damn."
Shocked by the tone of the messages, Simonsen, who has a respiratory illness requiring her to be attached to oxygen tubes, made a video that was played repeatedly on national media on Sunday.
"I want to get a degree so that I can help save animals," she said, speaking while wearing an oxygen mask. She has several dogs and is studying to be a veterinarian at the University of Bologna.
Without animal testing millions of people would kind of die so being against it kind of makes you a giant tool.
Many who are against it would just use the extreme examples of testing to generalize ALL testing.
and this

Proves how mentally insane the people who are against it are. They claim to be oh so morally above anyone because they're "Sensitive" to animals but say this shit to another human being. It's really sick, because they think they're the hero's, they aren't. They're just ignorant fools.
i'm more of a "test on criminals and the homeless" kinda guy

Immigrants work too
i'm more of a "test on criminals and the homeless" kinda guy
But we need them for our trebuchet tanks
Of course, most immigrants are homeless criminals so it all works out

The same diabetics that need insulin that is animal tested to live claim animal testing is morally wrong
if it's so wrong they should stop using their insulin and see how long they last.
Really they should just be disregarded, no one takes them seriously because most people understand how important shit like animal trials are.

I bet most of the people who posted said comments would kill a mouse if it entered their home.
The same people who are calling against animal testing would be screaming about human-testing if that were the world we lived in.
People will always have opinioins and many of them will always feel the need to voice it. No matter what the circumstance.

And that's just it. They'll raise their voice and "call out to a higher good", as they deem it, but I'm willing to bet they've used mouse/rat traps, killed hundreds of in-house spiders, regularly eat burgers/chicken, and have likely bought animals in the past from 'creature farms' without ever batting an eye. Sounds goofy and many of those are so common-place but i think it still raises a point.
Sure they're trying to change the World.
But that's being Human. The power to see the flaws in everyone else and the power to never see your own, even if its the same flaw.

If I remember correctly, the argument used is "The horses that died for my insulin did so, that I may continue to fight for them, and all animals. They were heroes, and will not have died in vain."
Not an exact quote, mind you, but that was the gist.

The PETA equivalent for "god moves in mysterious ways" when religious people are faced with an argument they cannot counter logically.

We should totally test on jews, spics and negros
[sp]Someone somewhere actually believes this kind of bullshit would be more ethical than animal testing, this is the sad part[/sp]
The title's kind of confusing, I thought she was the one saying 'I wouldn't sacrifice my goldfish for you' which really threw me off
Do they even test medicine/make medicine from goldfish?

I subbed to this thread waiting to see when someone might actually take these seriously.
The only animal testing I'm against is cosmetics. If a few people in a test group get a mild rash or a few blisters from a new type of makeup, I'm not that fussed. Medicine is a whole different ball game though - if some rabbits or rats die in the process of saving human lives, kinda sad I guess but worth it in the end.
I'm suprised there have been positive posts so far about animal testing. I'm for it, but I didn't expect people here to agree with the idea.
