Series went to shit after the first season. Thank god.
There's only so far you can string along; Person gets ill from mystery illness > House wrongly diagnoses the patient > Patient is dying > House figures out the illness > Patient lives/dies. Annoying and awkward interactions with supporting cast inbetween. I got into it pretty fast when it started, but became very repetitive and boring.

The show never had a major focus on the medical side apart from "holy crap, how did House pull this diagnosis out?" each episode is rated by medical experts on how accurate it is, and generally the show receives around a C. As another person pointed out, it is essentially the "Hugh Laurie is awesome show, and those other guys." the first few seasons were an attempt to introduce some sort of villain, season 5 was House's elevating drug problem, season 6 was about his recovery, season 7 explored House and Cuddy, and season 8 is wrapping up the remaining character's stories. I won't be surprised if Chase leaves the show today or next week, and it is likely that House will die at the end of the series, because they've tried everything else and it hasn't stuck, House is too stubborn.
I thought I wouldn't be sad about it ending, that I wouldn't miss the show because I could feel good about it going out while it's still good, but there is one thing I will miss: House and Wilson. I will really miss that.
And god dammit I just realized how likely I am to tear up if House dies and Wilson is there...
