Protip: People in Mexico who want to get away from poverty and cartels aren't going to just not gonna go to America bc "fuck drumpf xd"
When America has a shit education system and shit healthcare but Facepunch posters still think America's the best in the world. I laugh, maybe some posters should just stick to playing video games. Good god am I glad I'm not living on daddy's dime anymore and can see the real world in the US for what it really is.
amazing job! sounds like trump did such a great job that the wall won't even be needed anymore, right?
So here's the thing. http://thehill.com/policy/national-security/323098-dhs-secretary-touts-dip-in-illegal-border-crossings Illegal border crossings didn't decrease by 40%. The number of people caught dropped by 40%. Immigration probably went down, but I think that's an important distinction to make. Read the full statement here: https://www.dhs.gov/news/2017/03/08/statement-secretary-homeland-security-john-kelly-southwest-border-security

Shouldn't the title be changed to say number of apprehensions has dropped? Otherwise this is a pretty sensationalist headline, I get that's the name of the subforum but still. [editline]9th March 2017[/editline] We arrested 50% less murderers last quarter which must mean murders are down!
But illegal border crossing can only be measured by number of people caught. How else would they measure it? Academically they are slightly different, but in practice they meant the same thing. No matter the fact that Trump personality leave a lot to be desired, or the reason for declining illegal border-crossing attempt is probably 'fear' and not active efforts by the gov , isn't the effect of reducing unwanted immigration is a good thing? I mean, I don't like the guy either, but if he's a good scarecrow, then isn't that good for US?

If I'm not mistaken illegal border crossings have been decreasing for a decade now. I really doubt this has too much to do with Trump one way or another.
Isn't it extremely difficult to get into the United States and immigrate there (depending on where you come from) ? I don't think the majority of people would choose to immigrate somewhere illegally if they could afford and choose the legal option.
This excuse is getting old. It's like saying "I can't afford a steak tonight so I should just steal it". If you can't afford to do it legally then tough. I can't afford everything I want, but I work hard at getting it.
well weed is illegal, along with pirating movies, dropping litter, eating/drinking while driving, speeding, smoking in public, not cleaning up your dog shit, etc do you follow the law carefully on all of them?
Actually yes I do for those examples given. My point being I am not going to feel bad for those who don't wanna follow the same rules as everyone else. If they can't respect the law we have in place for immigration then they aren't worth having here.
Actually yes I do for those examples given. My point being I am not going to feel bad for those who don't wanna follow the same rules as everyone else. If they can't respect the law we have in place for immigration then they aren't worth having here.
do you think that people should be punished for smoking weed, since it breaks the law? like you have this rule for people who break the law, should those who smoke weed be punished for it (since its illegal)?
Actually yes I do for those examples given. My point being I am not going to feel bad for those who don't wanna follow the same rules as everyone else. If they can't respect the law we have in place for immigration then they aren't worth having here.
EVen though your economy literally relies on them they have no value? Sure
If they can't respect the law we have in place for immigration then they aren't worth having here.
The law we have in place for immigration usually makes it impossible to come here legally. Not difficult, flat out impossible.
do you think that people should be punished for smoking weed, since it breaks the law? like you have this rule for people who break the law, should those who smoke weed be punished for it (since its illegal)?
I don't smoke so I honestly can't have a say in it because I have no interest. [editline]10th March 2017[/editline]
EVen though your economy literally relies on them they have no value? Sure
Exactly what I said
I don't smoke so I honestly can't have a say in it because I have no interest.
that's not answering the question if somebody in America lights up a joint, should they be arrested and punished for it? It is an illegal act, is it not?
The law we have in place for immigration usually makes it impossible to come here legally. Not difficult, flat out impossible.
On a serious note, give me an example side-by-side of a country that it is not impossible for. [editline]10th March 2017[/editline]
that's not answering the question if somebody in America lights up a joint, should they be arrested and punished for it? It is an illegal act, is it not?
The answer is yes then? Here in New York it is illegal... Do i personally feel it should be legal or illegal everywhere? Could honestly care less I already told you it's an area I don't venture in.
I don't smoke so I honestly can't have a say in it because I have no interest. [editline]10th March 2017[/editline] Exactly what I said
so the validity of a law is based on your interest in it? that's stupid. You said they have no place in the system, but they clearly do as illegal immigrants provide your country with a cheaper labour force many of you benefit from without realizing it. [editline]10th March 2017[/editline]
On a serious note, give me an example side-by-side of a country that it is not impossible for.
Canada...? Oh fuck that was hard

What I am telling you is if it came down to me I would not represent whether it is legal or not legal. It's a field I know nothing of nor care to, and my vote would honestly swing either way. Maybe stop practicing your american exceptionalism and the rest of the world will start to make sense
You're a joke.
I said on a serious note, not act like a dick note. Far from exceptionalism pal, I asked a question, you gave a dick response. Enlighten me, how does Europe do it? is is just as strict?
I said on a serious note, not act like a dick note. Enlighten me, how does Europe do it? is is just as strict?
I know you're saying it as a serious statement. I'm telling you that's a fucking stupid belief. Canada is a serious and real nation that your nation would suffer without such a vibrant trade deal and social-cultural exchange.
I know you're saying it as a serious statement. I'm telling you that's a fucking stupid belief.
What a joke. Maybe stop practicing your american exceptionalism and the rest of the world will start to make sense
"American exceptionalism" generally refers to the fact that the US is an exception, or is different, than the nations of Europe, based on it being a "new nation" and its founding principles. It doesn't mean that the US is better than everyone else. Although, it does seem like the term is shifting meanings as people become ignorant of the original intention of the phrase.
"my opinion of law's importance and validity is based entirely on my interest in the topic" "canada isn't a real country! don't be such a dick by saying it is!" don't worry mate they teach you about government in highschool, give it a few years
Trade deal yes, social no. No, it wasn't a stupid belief.
Yes it is. I'm honestly not sure what kind of answer you expect when you say my country isn't "Serious" whatever the fuck that means Like how fucking up your own ass are you that you really think "I'm going to tell this Canadian his country is a joke, not serious, and I'm going to expect to answer me respectfully with thoughtful answers to respond to my loud mouth know it all ass" [editline]10th March 2017[/editline]
"American exceptionalism" generally refers to the fact that the US is an exception, or is different, than the nations of Europe, based on it being a "new nation" and its founding principles. I am just saying I am not going to say whether or not it should be legal or illegal based on my inexperience in the topic as a whole. When they teach you it let me know because I did just fine many years ago.
I said on a serious note, not act like a dick note.
You acted like a dick in the first place by saying Canada wasn't a serious country. Don't try to act like you're the victim here.

You seem ignorant as can be on your own country's immigration laws as well as the manner in which other countries do so. You're interested in immigration, but not enough to even know how the american system works. if I'm wrong, then explain to me how the system your country uses works

You didn't fail us. America failed you for not teaching you how to use these skills. As a fellow American, I'm sorry.

Why would I personally bash and be totally against drugs say like marijuana when for one I don't use it or need it for medical use? I would rather take no side at all instead of saying "pots bad" and leave it at that. I will leave that argument for the people who know about it. As for the failing comment, no need to be sorry, no failing going on here.
