People who smoke weed regularly normally aren't stressed out, and stress leads to over-eating. So yeah, makes sense. We needed to fund a study on this?
You forgot The Munchies.
I must be doing something wrong.

Misread the title.
No shit. It causes munchies.
Did you even read?
Last time, which was also the first time, I got high, I paced up and down the hallway of the vacant house I was using for two hours in an extremely unnatural jerky motion, got walked in on by my mother blazing high, she left, and I fell asleep on the couch. :v:
Atleast you could sleep, the entire time I felt like I was needed to lay down just to not fall over. I climb into my bed which is pinned up against the wall and I still feel like I'm going to fall over. Fuck weed. I couldn't sleep :smith:
As has been said, I would like to see this tested in other countries. of course they're skinny in the US, they're in prison. [editline]6th September 2011[/editline]
Me and friends have discussed this quite a lot. What we've found is that when you smoke it regularly (as we all do) you do not find hunger affecting you as much as it did before, because the hunger of munchies is so much greater. This means that you end up rarely eating that much throughout the day, and gorge yourself on food when you are high. It's almost like fasting really.
I imagine sleeping for a rather long time after a big session doesn't help either. [editline]6th September 2011[/editline]
My brothers lost tons of weight when smoking weed, but thats because they were mostly spending their money on drugs rather than food.
And, this being done in America, is also quite relevant.
As has been said, I would like to see this tested in other countries. of course they're skinny in the US, they're in prison.
Everything I've read, people put on weight in prison. Shit food, lack of exercise.
Everything I've read, people put on weight in prison. Shit food, lack of exercise.
So, in looking for something which validates what you're saying, I came across this:
Body weight and caloric intake were measured in a group of heavy and casual marihuana users prior to, during and following 21 days of marihuana smoking under research ward conditions. A group of control subjects were studied under identical conditions, but they did not smoke marihuana. Both heavy and casual marihuana users had a significant increase in caloric intake and gained weight during the marihuana smoking period. Heavy and casual users gained an average of 3.7 and 2.8 lbs respectively during the first 5 days of marihuana smoking. In contrast, control subjects gained only a small amount of weight (0.2 lbs) during the same time interval. Water retention did not appear to be a major factor in weight gain by the marihuana users. These findings are in agreement with both anecdotal reports and previous experimental data that marihuana use is associated with increased caloric intake and weight gain.
Psychopharmacology Volume 49, Number 1, 79-84 It wouldn't be science without conflicting evidence! I haven't found any evidence to support your point regarding men (but yes for women), and the studies that I've read which skirt around the issue focus solely on BMI, which is a terrible metric for people who choose to lift weights.
All the stoners I know are skinny
It doesn't say how many people participated in the study, for all we know it could've been like 7 people.
All the stoners I know are skinny
jwj heh
It doesn't say how many people participated in the study, for all we know it could've been like 7 people.
They used "the 2001-2002 National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions and the 2001-2003 National Comorbidity Survey-Replication", which are pretty acceptable samples.
Well it's not like normal smokers don't to be less likely to be obese either. You probably spend more energy coping with the damages done to your body.
Interesting.
Marijuana use makes you less likely to be fat? What were these scientists smoking?
Anyone who says "the munchies" probably doesn't even smoke weed..
Anyone who says "the munchies" probably doesn't even smoke weed..
Uhh, no.
People who smoke weed are also more likely to end up in jail for possession, so... Yeah, this doesn't really make you any better than other people.
This happened to me.
Anyone who says "the munchies" probably doesn't even smoke weed..
You don't have to be a stoner to love these.
If you smoke indica it gives you munchies. Sativa on the other hand does not.
Maybe fat people have less self esteem and find it harder to go out and talk to people in order to find someone to buy it off? Or more likely it's a combination of a lot of different factors but is probably not down to the drug itself.
Everybody knows that you don't gain weight if you eat when you're high.
Everybody knows that you don't gain weight if you eat when you're high.
You actually have a higher metabolism if I'm correct, or at least it is with me.

I guess this makes sense. It would explain why I'm such a frail 135 pounds.
I guess this makes sense. It would explain why I'm such a frail 135 pounds.
Hey, wanna fight, we're in the same weight class.
Most people who smoke pot are also big time alcohol consumers
Most people who smoke pot are also big time alcohol consumers
Now are you just making bullshit up or is this from your own first hand experience?
you must drink bleach or something, it's far too white.
Still looks like jizz never the less.
I imagine that the reason could be the fact that many people treat their depression with overeating. As pot apparently helps to relieve, it might make the people simply overeat less. It's replacing one drug (food) with another. Brain gets positive stimulation in both cases, and I guess that statistically, the second can sometimes replace the first. Very interesting, if nothing more.
