After walking into an Apple store with my family, I would 100% say that's why.
Nothing but 21-29 year olds working there.
Okay but is this more of an anti-Apple circlejerk based on your opinions and/or observations, or do you actually know what was going through the interviewer's heads?
I'm going off my observations purely.
Combined with the fact that Apple's brand being "young, hip, cool, modern" I don't find it too far fetched.
Not saying I hate Apple, I just don't like their products because I believe there are better alternatives.
How do you know for sure? Are you privy to the thought process of the interviewers?

“On the way out, all three of the interviewers singled me out and said, ‘We’ll be in touch,’ ” he said. “I never heard back.”
How about because he said it.

They singled him out but nowhere in any of that quote does it actually say that the interviewers rejected him because of his age.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it isn't possible, but let's stop assuming that interviewers are automatically disregarding people based on their age. You don't know if it's true, even if it's seemingly the most likely outcome.
The thing about saying that some people are overqualified for a job is another way of saying they will get bored of it, which then leads to them quitting the job after only a few months, which isn't really fair on the employer, since they could've given the same job to someone else who would've stayed.
