If the Euro fails a new Scandinavian Currency might be a possibility.

I like how this thread went from "Hey, neat, new currency and shit.", to "VIKINGS CAN BEAT ENGLAND AGAIN" "NO THEY CAN'T" "YEAH THEY CAN"
[SUB](but everyone knows vikings could beat anyone, anytime)[/SUB]

Go invade Ireland again and take what you need
Like Ireland has anything worth plundering anymore, I doubt they'd even make good slaves nowadays.

Huh, the majority of Sweden voted no to change currency to Euro, which I am happy for. Personally I love the simple and easy way that is SEK
I have a hunch that I misinterpreted the OP article though, but I'm hoping Sweden will stick to the currency it has

Same story in norway and denmark, that the article proposes is that since our currencies are so fucking stable, we should make a unified currency and pretty much revive the kalmar union.

Me too, but if it is a choice between a Scandinavian currency and the euro i definitively vote for the Scandinavian currency.
Same thing goes for a union.

It's a grenade launcher designed to target people for miles. If one of those slugs landed in you, You'd die.
Go ahead, invade England, but you still won't get past Wessex

I think if we created a union again, should have equal puns like these, considering it is pretty cold here all the time, even in the summer!
I wonder how long it will be till we all just give up and start using Credits.
Not really. A viking isn't necessarily a pirate, and yes, it's true that early raiders took advantage of the poor defenses the English towns had. There were also viking warriors. Viking armies defeated several English armies and established a permanent foothold in England which led to the Danelaw in 884. This lasted until 1042, where the English got the throne back (because the Danish king died without an heir), only to be invaded again in 1066 by the Normans (descendants of the vikings that invaded France).
The Vikings were, basically, traders. But they were also warriors and soon noted that many of the places they came upon in Europe were wealthy, and undefended. By the late 8th century, Viking ships came to raid first, and trade if the locals were too well armed. The 8th century was a period when Europe was still getting itself organized after the demise of Roman rule in the 5th century, Vikings were known as warriors, merchants and pirates who raped and robed from the weak and caused general chaos, probably why they have always been known as barbarians and destroyers of civilization. 'English' resistance (there was no such thing as England at this period, England was actually a huge mix of Roman, German and native Celt from previous Germanic tribes) was uncoordinated and often ineffective. 'England' was a region of several independent kingdoms - often at war with each other - and the lack of a unified political and military structure meant that Viking war-bands could roam the countryside with some impunity. King Alfred of Wessex was able to confront the Viking 'Great Army' at Edington, in 878, when his victory enabled him to establish terms for peace. Alfred had to concede the northern and eastern counties to the Vikings, where their disbanded armies settled, created new settlements and merged with the local populations and in effect actually became English. Lincoln, Nottingham, Derby, Stamford and Leicester became important Viking towns within The Danelaw, while York became the capital of the Viking Kingdom of York which extended more or less over what we call Yorkshire. These areas were gradually reconquered and brought back under English control by Alfred's successors.
Normans were not Vikings, either. Yes they were descended from Norse but they were also majority mixed with Frankish and Gallo-Roman stock which was the majority of the population in northen France. Saying they were descendants means nothing in reality because Scandinavians are descendants Germans and so are the British, and everyone else in Europe but in reality this means nothing (seeing as we all come from Africa, therefore all descendants of Africans). The Normans called themselves French, spoke the language, you can hardly add that to your medals and claim it. So what really happened? Vikings prayed upon weak undefended villages (the word Viking comes from Vik - to plunder unsuspecting villages) and peoples due to multiple kingdoms (England had not been founded at this stage) warring with each other instead of fighting invading pirates but once they came together they actually kicked vikings out and made them dissolve and become English.

I don't know what this has got to do with anything? You were using Allied and German equipment anyway.

But who cares, I actually like Vikings, Norse mythology rocks and part of my family's heritage comes from Norway (great grandfather immigrated to England).

You forgot to mention that the British Isles were invaded again by Viking warriors in 1003 led by Sweyn Forkbeard, and the House of Wessex overthrown (Yeah, I was wrong about how long Danelaw lasted). And again by Cnut the Great, Sweyns son. The House of Wessex only regained control because of a treaty, after the death of Harthacnut
Also, that's not at all what the word Vik means. It most likely refers to 'vika', which was an old norse maritime distance. Víking refers to an expedition overseas. And yes, I know that the European kingdoms were disorganized after the fall of Rome, all that jazz, and that Vikings migrated to the British isles, and the fact that viking ancestry had no effect on the Norman invasion of England, seeing as they settled in Normandy almost 200 years prior to invading England. It was a detail I added. There still no denying that they were competent warriors.

Noting that it wasn't quite a steam role as Scandinavians like to think it was is hardly forgetting, a Viking empire picking on a island with multiple (at the time) countries inside of it is hardly something to gloat over.

It was irrelevant.
I want to play the Viking levels of Age of Empires 2 now....
YES! I actually feel glad about this as us scandinavians in europe stand strongest in economically stabibility, free healthcare, school, dentist, public services, low corruption, high GDP and GNI, high taxes. Why not work that better and further making a stronger bond strong prosping economy of the scandinavian values and mentality we have and espcially so we wont be having to bailing out southern european countries like greece, italy, spain and portugal because they they don't wanna work for 7-8 hours a day, they're lazy and many of them don't pay their taxes + government corruption!

I don't think anybody was actually gloating over how cool a viking empire was, they were playing with the stereotype of vikings being badass warriors and plundering England, as happens every time vikings are mentioned.
That was why it was in parentheses. I didn't use it to reinforce my argument. It was a "fun fact", jeez.
You're making me wish I was a viking too.

And also I'm taking in consideration the idea of moving there someday. Fuck te european union, Italy was one of the former nations, and now is the last wheel with spain and greece :saddowns:

Heh, danes aren't really that patriotic, that's only the extreme right wingers (a pretty racist bunch, too.)
But we all long for the days where we ruled most of the world, and had a culture so badass, it's still the epitome of manliness. (at least in our minds)
I hope I get to be as patriotic as you some day
Patriotism is next to non-existant in Denmark, we leave saying stupid stuff like "I love my country" or "I'm proud of my country" to you Americans.
