For all of you complaining about sports killing people, if you read the article it said he was playing alone. It's not like someone tackled him, or he was catching long throws or overexerting himself, he was alone. You don't get hurt playing alone with a football. Just goes to show how many people read the thread title and not the actual article. Not that I'm saying sports don't kill people, they do, but in this circumstance that's not the case.
Ciaran Geddes was playing on his own

I'm not fat or extremely skinny, I'm not asocial and I've participated in team-based sports before. I've generally found that they're a waste of time and really dangerous a lot of the time. People could be doing much more productive things than running around on a field all day doing stupid activities that amount to nothing. It's just generally something that shouldn't exist, partly because it kills people (like here). I don't mean all sports are dumb but anything that has to do with playing in a team and moving a ball/puck/whatever around is something that should be a leisure activity instead because way too much money is spent on it. Money that could go to art, music, education and stuff like that.
Sports is a leisure activity, necessary for humans to socialize, have fun and relax (also do excercise). It is also entertaining to watch, so basically what you're saying is that all leisure activities like watching movies, listening to music, making music etc.. is dumb.. good logic.
Just saw this in the local newspaper. All the more poignant for me as I live very close to Birchwood.
I play football for my highschool, and let me tell you. This sport can be pretty violent and deadly. A kid died last year from dehydration. Someone on my team even lost a fucking finger because it got stuck in the face mask. Football can fuck you up.
Creativity is not gay. Please use your brain once in a while and respect people's preferences.
That was a joke. But what I truly don't understand is how suggesting organized sports in school is a "preference"
at a school in Cheshire
That made me feel bad.
The assumption you just made is just as retarded as the one you're trying to defend. People who played violent games killed other people -> assuming that all people who play violent games will kill other people People who played sports died because of a health condition -> assuming that all people who play sports are going to die because of doing it
How strong are your reading comprehension skills? You realize you've got like 3 logical fallacies in your argument, right?
hmm lets see here, people want to ban violent video games because there is a minuscule CHANCE that they cause people to kill other people. and yet we have CONFIRMED cases of school sports killing children and parents WANT their kids to play said sports.
The chance of either one causing a death is pretty small, anyway. I guess you could argue that there are more advantages to playing sports than playing games all day so they're more worth the risk, but arguing about that in the first place would be pretty silly.

(People have died on video game binges/potentially unhealthy lifestyle if one spends too much time on video games.)
There's been a few of these sport related deaths recently. Someone died while playing baseball some time ago. Strange...
There's a good chance that this isn't "sport"s related. Since there's no real information, assuming he had been drinking water, wasn't injured earlier, ill just toss out my opinion and say SADS.
Why are the police so nosey and must involve themselves when ever someone is found dead? They are here to protect and serve, not to investigate death unless it's murder and it's obvious no one murdered him.

It's been said: sports is to war as porn is to sex. I AGREE that sports can be boring. Hell they are completely, for me at least. HOWEVER, that I find sports boring... is a shortcoming on my part. Sports is a great way to have social interaction, and I respect anyone who does play sports. I regard, then, your calling sports "dumb" as idiotic. Furthermore, as it has been said, it's probably a congenital heart condition or something, something which could be fatally triggered by any strenuous exercise. Ban exercise?
It's strange to see this influx of stories about young children dying from the littlest things recently. Like that girl that died shortly after a fight with another girl her age.
What's even more of a shame is that the girl that she fought with is probably going to be tried as an adult on murder charges, paper skull rule and all. Also only three posts and already posting dumb shit in Sensational?
A doctor on Ambulance duty can determine the cause of death.
I'm actually family friends with John Littler, one of the reasons why the school had to release a quote about this was because they didn't tell the students what had actually happened so a stupid rumor went round that another pupil had bashed his head into the ground. John was my headteacher went i attended that school, he's a really awesome guy.
I'd think it would be sudden cardiac death, but that usually happens to older people, who would train hard as athletes. I remember there were two guys around my age that collapsed while training and died within a week of each other, both of them made the news, creepy as fuck.
Translation: "I'm a fatty" or "I'm super skinny and no one picks me because I'm asocial and suck at doing anything"
hi my best wishes to the family and friends. must be horrible for the people close to him just to see him poof off like that. hopefully his family can pull through.
