So to make a fan game, you have to do it in the creator's image. Talk about a buzz kill on creativity.
In a way that they approve, really. After all, it is the creator's/owner's IP, and its their call how they want it to be represented. If they feel that someone is using their IP in a way they do not approve, its within their full legal right to issue a C&D. So yeah, when you are working with someone else's IP, you have to play by their rules. When you make unofficial fan games like this, you tread a very thin line and there is always a risk of getting a C&D. You say it stems creativity, but that's not the creative direction Hasbro wanted for MLP. And that's their decision, not anyone else's.
Good. It's really annoying when a fandom tries to make 'their thing' into something it's not. I mean really, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: the Fighting Game? While I hate many things, this is one of those things that deserves a special mention. Good for Hasbro for protecting their franchise.
then it would also be fine for nintendo to tell the creator of a pokemon noir comic to stop doing his thing because it is making pokemon into something it's not

It's why seeing a game like this fall through because of a C&D affects me quite a bit. And hearing people sing praises of it doesn't help either.
I don't really care for the game, and they're entirely in their rights to do this if they want, and I'm not really complaining. But this is like if Valve issued a C&D to the Black Mesa Source team for using their IP. Only in that case, people wouldn't be praising them.

I'm personally not on the side of people attacking Hasbro nor the people praising them. I just want people to understand why Hasbro did what they did. Even if you don't agree with it, but at least accept it, that's fine by me. Personally if this were any other fandom I'd have the same response, but If I was involved in it (Which, by the way, I almost was for part of the sound testing), I would have seen this coming.

I'm not much into ponies, but I will say that game looked like had a lot of work put into it. But they knew the risks (or at least should have). And you can't win every time.
How is that even remotely similar?
one thing is fan content that is different from the original content's direction the other is fan content that is different from the original content's direction
Soo, another thread for everybody to laugh at bronies, have a shitstorm, and for a post by daijitsu? [editline]10th February 2013[/editline] because hey it's BRONIES, so whatever bad thing happens to them is good! edit: "trolling 30 year old neckbeards" just that alone is enough to make me think that the thread was made with the intent of hating broniesxdxdxdxd honestly does it matter what the game is about? considering how people whine about ea/activision sending c&d to fan groups, this getting winners is not cool
Keep up with that and you'd drown in your own tears.
It's like taking a show like "care bears" and making them fight to the death.
I'd almost pay for that. ALMOST
If you want MLP fighting just make MUGEN characters. Not a big deal, seriously.
Well shit. Heard about this the other day too. Shame that happened, they put tons of work into it, recruiting voice actors and the like. Since I'm obsessed with side-view fighting games, I was actually a little interested how this would all end out. Just seems like a massive kick in the dick after the year or two like 8 people have been working on it. [editline]11th February 2013[/editline] Would be quite something if they wrapped it up and tossed it out onto the internet somewhere as a 'Fuck You' for fucking them over like that. Because brony or not, it's quite some work gone to waste.
Have you missed all the violence in the Pokemon games or something? Just because the Pokemons are bright and colorful, it doesn't change the fact that it's about fighting for money and glory while a rich asshole wants to steal Pokemons.
Here is an RL representation.
Keep up with that and you'd drown in your own tears.
oops sorry vanman i forgot im not allowed to not like things seriously every time i argue about something you just insult me
I dont see why they felt that MLP needed a fighting game in the first place?
oops sorry vanman i forgot im not allowed to not like things seriously every time i argue about something you just insult me
Maybe it's because your attitude represents somebody getting way too overly defensive of something? You could have tried being more reasonable about it, at the very least.
besides that "it's different from the original direction!111!!1111!!1" thing was pulled out of nowhere - nowhere does it say that hasbro did it because of that and if hasbro was really against everything that's not happy sunshine horses then why are there prints like this: [t]http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2012/214/e/f/discord_versus_lightmare_sun_by_ziom05-d55m130.jpg[/t] sold on the hasbro-approved merch store
I dont see why they felt that MLP needed a fighting game in the first place?
The fandom is pretty made up by teenagers and young adults, all fandoms have a mature side to them even if the show is mature orientated and I can see why hasbro wanted this gone since the show is about being nice to people or something not fucking them up in a blood bath
besides that "it's different from the original direction!111!!1111!!1" thing was pulled out of nowhere - nowhere does it say that hasbro did it because of that
Uhm, it neglects to say with concrete proof why Hasbro did it full stop. Everything on both sides regarding motives is speculation currently.
obviously it was c&d'd because hasbro are working on Hasbro: DEATHMATCH
The fandom is pretty made up by teenagers and young adults, all fandoms have a mature side to them even if the show is mature orientated and I can see why hasbro wanted this gone since the show is about being nice to people or something not fucking them up in a blood bath
True, but it just seems weird to me that out of all the ideas in the world, they thought of doing a fighting game based on a TV show with little to do with it. It would be like making an FPS out of Dexters Lab. But im not one to judge, whatever makes them happy.
obviously it was c&d'd because hasbro are working on Hasbro: DEATHMATCH
Reminds me of the ending of Counter Strike: For Kids.
Maybe it's because your attitude represents somebody getting way too overly defensive of something?
oops sorry vanman i forgot im not allowed to not like things seriously every time i argue about something you just insult me
I'm having a hard time distinguishing between your posts, and the whine-one-one siren. That's why.
How is that even remotely similar?
Most obvious case of "I don't like it so it shouldn't be allowed to exist despite things im ok with being in similer situations" ever.
I dont see why they felt that MLP needed a fighting game in the first place?
Because fans wanted to make a game involving characters they liked and prehaps they were also fans of fighting games??? Not hard to work out. Broke my automerge and ninja'd me. GOD. DAMN.
I'm having a hard time distinguishing between your posts, and the whine-one-one siren. That's why.
well have fun with that i'll see you in a windows 8 thread next time, ok?
one thing is fan content that is different from the original content's direction the other is fan content that is different from the original content's direction
You need to read the official pokemon manga, it has decapitation in it, of other pokemon and loosened battle restrictions, like unless it is a proper match there are no restrictions on number of pokemon you can have out. With team rocket being quite a bit more evil than the standard anime and game versions.

It's dumb and predictable that they issued that C&D and it was dumb and predictable that someone posted it here. The game was non-profit and the devs put a lot of work into it. And anything involving ponies around here will always dissolve into pointless arguments.
