In a way that they approve, really. After all, it is the creator's/owner's IP, and its their call how they want it to be represented. So yeah, when you are working with someone else's IP, you have to play by their rules. When you make unofficial fan games like this, you tread a very thin line and there is always a risk of getting a C&D. You say it stems creativity, but that's not the creative direction Hasbro wanted for MLP. And that's their decision, not anyone else's.

so far they were fine with just about everything. the only scandal that i can remember is sending a c&d to somebody making profit from custom made toys

Which is how I felt for the past year and a half, feeling that any day could be the last day to work and to lose everything you worked for vanish in an instant. It's why seeing a game like this fall through because of a C&D affects me quite a bit. And hearing people sing praises of it doesn't help either.
I don't really care for the game, and they're entirely in their rights to do this if they want, and I'm not really complaining.
But this is like if Valve issued a C&D to the Black Mesa Source team for using their IP. Only in that case, people wouldn't be praising them.

Look, we understand where you're coming from. I'm personally not on the side of people attacking Hasbro nor the people praising them. I just want people to understand why Hasbro did what they did. Even if you don't agree with it, but at least accept it, that's fine by me. Personally if this were any other fandom I'd have the same response, but If I was involved in it (Which, by the way, I almost was for part of the sound testing), I would have seen this coming.

I mean I won't disagree that it sucks. I'm not much into ponies, but I will say that game looked like had a lot of work put into it.
But they knew the risks (or at least should have). And you can't win every time.

Well shit. Heard about this the other day too. Shame that happened, they put tons of work into it, recruiting voice actors and the like. Since I'm obsessed with side-view fighting games, I was actually a little interested how this would all end out. The fandom is pretty made up by teenagers and young adults, all fandoms have a mature side to them even if the show is mature orientated and I can see why hasbro wanted this gone since the show is about being nice to people or something not fucking them up in a blood bath

Uhm, it neglects to say with concrete proof why Hasbro did it full stop. Everything on both sides regarding motives is speculation currently.

True, but it just seems weird to me that out of all the ideas in the world, they thought of doing a fighting game based on a TV show with little to do with it. It would be like making an FPS out of Dexters Lab.

You need to read the official pokemon manga, it has decapitation in it, of other pokemon and loosened battle restrictions, like unless it is a proper match there are no restrictions on number of pokemon you can have out. With team rocket being quite a bit more evil than the standard anime and game versions.

It's dumb and predictable that they issued that C&D and it was dumb and predictable that someone posted it here. The game was non-profit and the devs put a lot of work into it. And anything involving ponies around here will always dissolve into pointless arguments.
