Same happened with Street of Rage Remake, the people were working on it for 5 years, releasing betas in the middle, when the final version was released 3 days later SEGA told them to stop and delete their links. Which was something stupid since the team of that work, Bombergames, asked to SEGA since the start to see if it was okay to make this remake but they never got an answer.
Conclusion, companies wants to play with you and crush your work years later.
