Holocaust Denier Will Be GOP Nominee In Illinois Congressional Race
An anti-Semitic white supremacist and Holocaust denier will almost definitely be the Republican nominee for a congressional race in a district encompassing parts of Chicago and its suburbs.
Arthur Jones, a 70-year-old retired insurance agent and perennial losing candidate in races in Illinois and Wisconsin dating back to the 1970s, was the only person to qualify for the Republican primary in the heavily-Democratic 3rd District.
“Well, first of all, I’m running for Congress, not the chancellor of Germany. All right. To me the Holocaust is what I said it is: It’s an international extortion racket,” Jones told the Chicago Sun-Times.
Jones, a former leader of the American Nazi Party, has a campaign website containing a section called “Holocaust?” in which he calls the genocide of six million Jews “the biggest blackest lie in history.”
[...]
Jones gave a speech last year at a gathering of the National Socialist Movement, which the Southern Poverty Law Center called one of the “most prominent neo-Nazi groups in the United States.”
In his speech, Jones said he was sorry he voted for President Trump, who “surrounded himself with hoards of Jews” like presidential advisor/son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Emphasis mine.
im really glad the GOP's veil of not being cryptonazis has totally fallen to the wayside

The Illinois Republican Party condemned Jones. “We strongly oppose his racist views and his candidacy for any public office, including the 3rd Congressional District,” party chairman Tim Schneider told the Sun-Times.
In 2016, the state party successfully challenged the signatures Jones gathered to get on the ballot. But this time, both the party and Jones’s two possible Democratic opponents have said that his signatures appear valid.
No other Republicans will appear on the ballot in the primary, which will take place March 20.
I don't understand how this works. Why can't Republicans just field their own candidate and not have this wackjob ruin their party's image?
Ah, I to remember the made up story of the holocaust. Jews made it up for money.

As I understand it, it's a rock solid seat for Democrats so they see no value in putting up an actual candidate. Seems like it would be worth it just to get this guy out of the way though

It's a race that's taken to be a free win for the Democrats, and nobody except a genuinely deluded Nazi is willing to try to challenge them.
Because of how the party is structured, so long as he generates sufficient support, they cannot legitimately block him from running in the primaries. Since no other entity or group wanted to waste money or time on a lost race, he's the de-facto candidate.
Generally speaking, this is a long-running and endemic difference between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. (Compare and Contrast: Super delegates versus Trump's 20-Man-Free-For-All Nomination)
Unsurprising. Illinois is super backwards even with Chicago. You get to choose between corrupt as all get out Democrats or incompetent Republicans
I'm not surprised honestly.
I hate Illinois Nazis anyway

Even though this guy is a scumbag

There's little to no chance of him winning the district
Guess you could say he’s the Reich man for the job.

Doesn’t matter. The fact that he’s running in the first place with no opposition in the GOP is disgusting
I'm actually not going to be too harsh on the Republicans for this... if all they're doing is listing him, it's not a huge failing on their part. It would still be better to run nobody, but something tells me they didn't expect him to be completely unopposed, and changing the rules just to exclude him, while correct, could cause some outcry that would overall hurt their party.
If they start throwing money at him to try to win, though... fuck them. The GOP needs to basically just pretend the district doesn't exist, and then find a way to quietly boot this fuck from the party.
(And please, tell me the person the Dems are running isn't like a secret kiddy-diddler or something... if a GOP seat in Alabama can flip because of a shit candidate, the same could happen anywhere. )

If I remember correctly, the incumbent is a blue-dog Democrat, don't know about the other Democrat candidate.
What happens if Democrats become so broad that it becomes a vague term that could either define a Conservative-Lite all the way to a full socialist, and Republican becomes so far right that it becomes almost an extremist group

Punch Nazis.
Punch people I deem to be Nazis.
Fixed your post for you.

Obviously this guy is an actual Nazi (though just randomly assaulting people still isn't okay) but I don't imagine you're advocating that people only punch people who are documented members of the American Nazi party.
Even if you were, how depressingly hypocritical of you to call for violence against others based on their political affiliations, disgusting as they may be. Unless someone is actually an active threat or makes threats towards a specific person you can't just assault them with no repercussions.
oh hey saw stuff about this guy earlier
here's a fun image

To be fair, Illinois Republicans have completely denounced him. short of banning him from the primaries altogether, I'm not sure what else they can do.

the guy checking his phone while holding a confederate flag is funny though for some reason. 'ugh aare we just about done here, i gotta pick my daughter up for her dentist appointment, then go to a cross burnin this evening with the other fellas...'
Obviously this guy is an actual Nazi but
About right here is where you lost me, and then twice as much when you somehow assumed that my "Punch Nazis" post, in a thread about an actual Nazi, was somehow insinuating violence against non-Nazis.
It's probably best for the Illinois Republicans that if this nutjob absolutely has to run, that it's in a seat which the Republicans have virtually no chance of winning, as opposed to running in a marginal seat which he could win.
But it would be best for the Illinois people that they have the option between decent candidates regardless of whichever district they live in.
I hate Illinois Nazis.
Nothing perfectly sums up the underlying bullshit and racism of the "Make America Great Again" slogan like a Nazi wearing a MAGA cap.

Did you read the part where I explained you're a piece of shit if you randomly assault people even if they are Nazis
[editline]5th February 2018[/editline]
Oh wait it seems you stopped reading when you saw something you could snarkily respond to instead of actually reading my post
"Oh great, the Chicago election is coming up, but we obviously can't win. Who should we just put in so we at least show up?"
"Just put the Nazi in."
"Which one?"

Kind of like you with the article, if one can assume through "fixing" my post to say:
Punch people I deem to be Nazis.
as if this actual Nazi's Nazi status was my own personal, subjective, debatable opinion.

So you expect that when people start "Punching Nazis" they're going to look through verifiable documentation for each person they deem Nazis to make sure they're registered members of a Nazi party?
That's what you think will happen?

Oh hey, he's running in my district. There's no way in hell he's going to win.
