Huh??? What's next, owning a pet is abuse too?
I've been yelled at by some crazy lady for owning a dog a few weeks ago when walking him, and the not too long ago I saw her again and got yelled at because my dog is a "child killer" (my dog is pitbull corgi mix)
people are crazy
I support PETA.
At least, the overall goal. I don't like a lot of the shit they say or do but generally I feel they have good intentions.
Someone please post that picture graph that shows what PETA actually does ; especially with animals
I always thought Bill Maher was a pretentious toolbag
And now you know he is.
Wait, just what the fuck did Liam Neeson do?
According to Bill he supports Horse-Drawn Carriages in New York City, which Maher regards as a form of animal cruelty because it breaks their equinoid spirits.

Ah yes, what a glorious champion for the cause!

Had the same because of my brothers German Shepherd except she was a "vicious attack dog."

I'm getting it from his use of bum quotes and statistics pulled from germ-theory denialist websites as well as his constant disdain for "Western medicine."

Not sure how New York does it, but the horses in Charleston, SC that are used for the carriage tourist rides are under a lot of regulations. They only work for 3-4 months of the year and get the rest of the year off frolicking free on a farm. They're rotated out to prevent being overworked and have a huge amount of people employed to take care of them in their city stables which are wide open to the public to view.
And I can't remember the length, but the definitely have a time limit for how many years they can be worked and then they're retired (not killed, but allowed to roam on a ranch).
Maybe I'm buying into their "propaganda" but the horses in Charleston are open to the public and have strict rules that govern their use.

Nothing says good intentions like killing perfectly healthy animals and saying that doing so was showing 'mercy'.
I'd like to see him tell Liam Neeson face to face..

He's said it on multiple occasions in his shows, especially as soon as science/religion comes up.
Just saw the clip and I love how he has to clarify that he doesn't deny how germs work.
The founder is a diabetic that uses animal tested medicine to live.
And then she complains about how animal testing is like nazism.
"But, that's different!!"
This one thread has managed to shatter my idea of what Maher was like... He seemed like a smart enough man.
I mean Anti-Vac? FUCKING REALLY, that's beyond more than just stupid for someone who does a show that connects to millions of viewers, I could see uninformed people believing in it... But not someone who's job is basically telling people informed news with jokes mixed in.
He's a fan of science and reasonable debates from what I've seen... This just doesn't add up for me.

Can I just say, what a fucking hypocritical cunt.
"Stop arguing with climate scientists right wingers, you don't know anything about the subject and it's proven science! Vaccines on the other hand are a debate which I am perfectly qualified to weigh in on, and if scientists tell me I'm wrong they're oppressing me."

the way I've always seen bill maher is that he's a pretty intelligent guy who occasionally has views that aren't as logical as the rest of his views, and he very often tries to use sensationalism to try to further causes that are important to him. like this, targeting somebody famous to demonize over '"animal abuse". it's definitely going to make more headlines, which ole' bill believes to be the same thing as making a difference.
By Proxy, Liam Neeson is a terrorist by that Logic, he was Irish during the troubles.
man I used to think bill maher was pretty okay
He's not actually that Smart. He plays up the anti religious angle to get a base and he follows nearly every MSNBC trend but then acts arrogant over it.
I'm getting it from his use of bum quotes and statistics pulled from germ-theory denialist websites as well as his constant disdain for "Western medicine."
Does he still think he's in the 19th century?
You can buy a good enough microscope for cheap these days, see the little blighters, consume them and receive disease. Hell, if it's rotten food, you can even ditch the microscope.
It rarely gets easier to causally connect things than that in science.
And this "Western" medicine phobia bollocks is irritating as well. It is used by, and improved by doctors and scientists in virtually every country in the world nowadays. Science in general has never been purely Western, and as developing country develop more, it's becoming even less so.

Would be funny, though, to see that pillock go back to the old ways of tying the genitals of random animals of the wilderness to his forehead because some drunk twat ages ago said it cured their headaches the next day.

'I'm free to believe whatever I want to, even if it's stupid as fuck.' - standard denialist response to anything, just spice it up with bullshit 'facts' about how scientific explanations are fake and/or the work of the devil.
You weren't aware of his support of peta already?
He's also an anti-vaccer.
What the hell?
That doesn't sounds like him at all.

But bill Maher has always been a liberal Sean Hannity. Both are intolerable self absorbed shitheads that no one should give air time.
What the hell?

He's an extremely arrogant asshole who latches onto anything that can arguably set him apart.
god damn i hate this motherfucker.
he is a special kind of imbecile.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Maher#Health_care

Maher responded to the criticism, saying, "What I've read about what they think I'm saying is not what I've said. I'm not a germ theory denier. I believe vaccinations can work. Polio is a good example. Do I think in certain situations that inoculating Third World children against malaria or diphtheria, or whatever, is right? Of course. In a situation like that, the benefits outweigh costs. But to me living in Los Angeles? To get a flu shot? No."
He's pretty uninformed but he's not still not a germ theory denier.
Wait what, horse carriage being animal abuse?
Huh??? What's next, owning a pet is abuse too?
PETA is right. The only way to prevent animal abuse is by animal genocide.
He's pretty uninformed but he's not still not a germ theory denier.
That's a relief. A germ theory denialist movement would probably cause more problems than the current anti-vaxxer movement has in terms of the meteoric rise of infections and deaths in the US.
