the only thing he concretely said he was opposed to was the swine flu vaccine and the seasonal flu vaccine being used in places where its uncommon
even if that is disagreeable its not what you make it out to be and more importantly doesnt invalidate anything he says about nutrition
the peta stuff can be chalked up to being a typical hollywood liberal
But bill Maher has always been a liberal Sean Hannity. Both are intolerable self absorbed shitheads that no one should give air time.
hes a comedian on a talkshow the idea that you can even compare them is ridiculous
bill maher isnt a warmonger or fundamentalist or randroid
this dogmatic attitude towards him because of a couple new age hippie views is unwarranted imo
I'm getting it from his use of bum quotes and statistics pulled from germ-theory denialist websites as well as his constant disdain for "Western medicine."
by which he means big pharma and the healthcare industry?

Oh come the fuck off it. He spouts the exact same headache inducing "vaccines are full of mercury and formaldehyde!!!" horse shit as every other regressive self centered luddite, which results in thousands of children dying due to not getting necessary preventative medical treatment. This isn't some little foible, this is the active dissemination of unfounded ignorance with measurable lethal results.
He's no fucking different than the climate change denialists.
PETA is right. The only way to prevent animal abuse is by animal genocide.
I haven't heard any cases of dinosaur abuse lately...
Whats with all these anti-vaccine people not realizing that vaccines are there to PREVENT an epidemic. The reason the disease seems so rare now is because people are vaccinated. If you stop vaccinating the disease can spread and mutate.
Its god damned 6th grade biology for christs sake.

I think that in most cases, the fear of vaccination stems from a fear of organisms being injected directly into the body. Doesn't matter if the organisms are dead or weakened as is generally the case, it wigs these people out. No amount of scientific evidence is going to change their minds about it because it's an irrational phobia. Of course, in other cases people are paranoid about deliberately being made sick and having to pay the medical costs for treatment, but that's mostly irrational as well - no amount of convincing is going to change their minds about that, either.

Or have I confused vaccination with immunization?
This is something that is amazing to me. I used to follow bill maher because I thought he kind of straight talked things like Jon Stewart but that is incredible.
I think the main reason he's so popular is because he USUALLY says stuff that a lot of people can agree with.
Then he comes completely out of left-field with all his wacky anti-vacc and PETA bullshit.
Wait what, horse carriage being animal abuse?
Huh??? What's next, owning a pet is abuse too?
That's actually PETA's guideline, they have euthanized a staggering amount of lost animals (some of which were reported lost and still had families actively looking for them) because they'd rather see an animal dead than living among humans. I'm not even shitting you.
I support PETA.
At least, the overall goal. I don't like a lot of the shit they say or do but generally I feel they have good intentions.
So you support the eradication of the human species?
He's also an anti-vaccer.

And a germ-theory denialist.
No he really isn't.
"What I've read about what they think I'm saying is not what I've said. I'm not a germ theory denier. I believe vaccinations can work. Polio is a good example. Do I think in certain situations that inoculating Third World children against malaria or diphtheria, or whatever, is right? Of course. In a situation like that, the benefits outweigh costs. But to me living in Los Angeles? To get a flu shot? No." - Bill Maher

A lot of people have a phobia about getting injected with something. Quite a few people at my workplace refuse to get vaccinated for this reason. Their excuse is that they live in a first world country so it's okay.
Had the same because of my brothers German Shepherd except she was a "vicious attack dog."
Same 'ere. I got an English Bull Dog. He's not even vicious, just very lazy.
I come from a family that's owned horses since the early 1900's and I can safely say that horse carriages aren't any kind of abuse. Horses are powerhouses and if they don't want to do something, they don't do it. They will rear, they will kick, and they will flee if they feel like they are being toyed with. Almost all interactions with horses are cooperative, and when you lose the horse's support, that's the end of that. You have to have the horse's trust, you don't just wrestle it into submission.
Isn't this the same man who made an entire documentary attempting to paint Christians as idiots? Pretentious self-righteous fuckbag with some kind of superiority complex, from what I can remember.

He even went to a fucking theme park.
Is it too late to hop aboard the hate-train?
Not sure how New York does it, but the horses in Charleston, SC that are used for the carriage tourist rides are under a lot of regulations. They only work for 3-4 months of the year and get the rest of the year off frolicking free on a farm. They're rotated out to prevent being overworked and have a huge amount of people employed to take care of them in their city stables which are wide open to the public to view.
And I can't remember the length, but the definitely have a time limit for how many years they can be worked and then they're retired (not killed, but allowed to roam on a ranch).
Maybe I'm buying into their "propaganda" but the horses in Charleston are open to the public and have strict rules that govern their use.
Apparently the horses in New York work for 9 hours a day, daily, and live on average for 4 years compared to the 14 years that police horses in New York live after starting that work.
These numbers may very well be exaggerated, but they're claims that I see often on anti-carriage sites yet never refuted on pro-carriage ones.
For what it's worth, Jon Stewart also seems to be against the horse-drawn carriages in New York, perhaps if only for the fact that it makes the whole area smell like shit.
Bill Maher is the Rush Limbaugh of the left

My god, PETA is the primitive form of the Death Judges!
Ignorance ≠ Skepticism
Good comedian
