And thanks to AdBlock this won't even affect me.
It wouldn't have affected you either way. Videos with Nintendo gameplay could already have had advertising, but all the money went to Nintendo.
It's such crap that you only get revenue if Nintendo approves of your content... but then they get revenue off of your video if it isn't approved anyways.
I literally have no more faith in goddamn Youtube anymore.
this is a HORRIBLE IDEA, like you are getting millions of views and free publicity that will for sure translate into more people buying the game and yet nintendo sees the need to take a cut of that!!?, well looks like someone doesnt want free publicity

TB did a video about this and just how bullshit it is.
For the tldw, the average you get after everyone takes a piece, per 100 usd, it comes down to $20.16, even less if you're outside the US. This is before taxes.
Seems like a poor business decision.
Wow how desperate of them. Shaking down lpers for money basically.

I added the video to the OP because it breaks it down pretty good.
The irony is Nintendo games benefit from free youtube advertising more than anyone else's. Their games are almost always about gameplay and not story, so that type of advertising is more likely to sell their games.
I'm gonna get a lot of boxes but I've always felt the fact you can get paid for someone elses content doesn't sit right with me, Sure you can say the commentary is what they're getting paid for but it's still got the content in it. I don't know, I guess kudos for being able to profit off of it and yeah I can understand the free advertisement side of it too, Long story short I'm torn on it but I'm pretty sure it's for all the "wrong reasons"

My personal stance is that if you upload something that you would have to pay the original content creator to experience then it is wrong to profit off it. So uploading movies and TV shows as is. In the case of games however, the experience is the actual gameplay. You as the audience do not get that experience by watching a lets play. The audience is there to watch/listen to other people commentate, not to replace the experience of the game. IMO, this is fine.

And your stance is exactly what people talk about when it comes to the "grey area" of the law.
Regular gameplay with someone chatting ontop is really the heart of it. Reviews, that's understood by pretty much everyone to be protected. But "hey whutsup everyone welcome to episode 564 of super mario." is trickier.
sorry for incoming horrijpeg
but

Ok up til now I was thinking "well it's their product" but this is bullshit.
How do I remove my channel wtf. I only have 2 mario kart 8 videos on there but still fuck them I don't want to accidentally upload something else on there some day and forget that Nintendo gets a share.

You have to register your channel in the first place. So don't worry about it. Don't upload anything nintendo related.

I registered my channel :v:
why cant they just ya know, let people monetize content with the current youtube system w/o taking a share like everyone else
Because those people are making money off of content they did not make?
I registered my channel :v:
Send an email to them and see if you can get it un-registered.
Send an email to them and see if you can get it un-registered.
I'm just gonna wait until it's actually verified and then see if there's an unregister button or something.
they were able to previously, now Nintendo is taking a cut of that
No, they couldn't even do it the begin with, did you even watch the video?

The problem is that most people don't come for the game, but the people playing the game, should Fender be paid royalties from people using their guitars?

That's not really comparable.
It's not hard to imagine lost sales due to people watching Let's Plays instead of actually playing the game. Especially with some contemporary singleplayer games, which are already in large part "cinematic experiences". Why pay €60 for a game when you can get the story, visuals, sound, music and voice-acting for free on youtube?

Oh right the lost sales fallacy, there's no proof that they would have bought it anyway. And hell, there's been plenty of proof looking at published sales figures from studios showing a huge spike in sales after a youtuber has played it.

How is it a fallacy? Would you deny that there exists people that watch Let's Plays instead of buying the game? The real question is how it compares to increased sales due to exposure. The net gain/loss is difficult to assess. Sales spikes after Let's Play releases are expected and doesn't prove anything.
If Let's Plays end up changing the way video games are experienced to a significant degree it would be naive to expect the industry to rely on the same profit model.
Do you figure Let's Watch's of feature films should be allowed as well?
Because those people are making money off of content they did not make?
I've never seen people make this argument about videos of people playing board games.

Not comparable. You'll get the same experience from a film no matter what method you use to watch it. It'll be the same every time. With a game, however, watching is not the same as playing.

It's not the exact same but it is comparable, especially with many modern games.

i bought a wii u because of game grumps (specifically playing Mario 3D World,) like without that i would've had NO reason

If someone can get the full experience of your game by watching a video of someone else playing it, that speaks a lot more to the shortcomings of your game than anything.
