what's even worse is most of these people weren't even around during her time as PM, they have no fucking clue what she did
you weren't around in 1940s, you have no idea what Hitler did!!!!1!!one!!!
[sp]obviously this is godwin to the fucking max[/sp]
SonofBrim;40221376']I find this funny, seeing as many people in the US were criticized for celebrating Osama's death. From what I've seen, Thatcher wasn't even half the monster she's been made out to me and (help me) may have actually helped the country get back on it's feet.
I apologize if this is ignorant of me in some way, none of what she's done has been a part of my lifetime, and up until now I hadn't heard of her. It's just that I honestly expect better in the UK.
These people being assholes are the vast majority. The media aren't going to report on the millions of people who sat at home not giving a shit. Most of the people partying are just out for an excuse to get drunk and smash things. Like the riots last year, most of the people rioting didn't even know what the riots were about and were just in it for the laugh. If anything it's a sign of general upset in the population.
Stay classy, UK.
Why the fuck are there always riots in the UK?
Because of Thatcher. The money she saved from cutting social programs had to go to the police due to increased unrest.
this isn't a fucking riot, about three people turned bins over and someone smashed a window.
i've seen more action in croydon on a friday night
People make fun of Canada because they riot over a hockey game, but yet the UK riots of a person dying of a stroke. Nice.

hey can we you know stop these fucking "BLAHDY BLOO HA HA HA NOW I CAN LAUGH AT YOU!" posts they're just monolithically stupid and paint you as a generalizing and possibly even bigoted smartarse
Reelected twice too.
rally 'round the flag effect.

No.

Let's see.
Every child is taught about Hitler from primary school age, they play war games, they watch war movies, they see documentaries, Hitler is extremely well known, he is associated with evil and rightly so.
Thatcher is somebody no child today will know anything about, most will properly not know she exists. Those that do know of her existence doubtfully know anything about her policies, only that people didn't like her (for idiotic reasons that have already been shown and debunked over the last few days). The people celebrating in these pictures look very young, they would have never knowledge of what it was like handling Thatchers policies, they just know that the woman is mocked and ridiculed in our culture, they very likely know nothing about the truth of the arguments against her or for her, they're being childish and it's sick.
People make fun of Canada because they riot over a hockey game, but yet the UK riots of a person dying of a stroke. Nice.
Margaret Thatcher made more of an impact than a hockey game
Because of Thatcher. The money she saved from cutting social programs had to go to the police due to increased unrest.
I hope you're making a joke.
I still don't think she should've sold off the train services, though that wasn't JUST her.
Anyways the other night I walked past a union club thing and I have never seen a party like it, I dunno how people can get so riled up over a dead woman. It's not like there are no more tories, which'd be ok
People make fun of Canada because they riot over a hockey game, but yet the UK riots of a person dying of a stroke. Nice.
I'm sorry but a riot over a sports match is always going to be infinitely more retarded.
As Argentina retreated they dumped sea mines and land mines all over the Falklands and coastal areas, they broke numerous Geneva Conventions laws which is a main reason to bombing their retreat.
That's a justification for bringing the country's leadership to trial for breaking the war crimes, not blowing up sailors that had nothing to do with the making of those decisions.
Reelected twice too.
Reagan, W. and Nixon, the three worst presidents this country has ever had were all reelected too.

The Captain of the Belgrano was ordered to engage any ship in range and was ordered back to the edge of the exclusion zone.
He actually has a book that mentions this.
"During an interview in 2003 he had stated that the General Belgrano was only temporarily sailing to the west at the time of the attack, and his orders were to attack any British ships which came within range of cruiser's armament"

Erm what. Soldiers aren't responsible for the orders that they are given, we still kill them because they are carrying them out, are you saying we shouldn't have shot German soldiers in WW2 because they were simply following orders to invade France? Maybe we should have just went straight to Nuremberg!

Reagan turned around the country after Carter messed stuff up and TBH it's only now that people see Reagan's influence has bad, he certainly wasn't the worst president...
W. got reelected because Kerry ran a terrible campaign and things weren't really that bad until his 2nd term anyway.
Nixon I don't know enough to say.
What I can say is that it's stupid to compare these people to Thatcher who is a person who left Britain in a better shape than when she entered and was pretty well liked by people during her terms even when things went going well. Nixon resigned because he knew he was fucked, W. was mocked constantly by everyone and Reagan - well I don't understand why you brought him up - I guess you didn't like his political philosophy which is also why most people dislike Thatcher - they usually ignore that her philosophy turned around the country for the better though...
It's funny how so many people who are glad she died weren't even alive when she was prime minster.
It's funny how so many people who are glad she died weren't even alive when she was prime minster.
Its not that they weren't around, its the fact they've grown up in a labour society with a pop culture of anti thatcher posters, songs, media etc - even I when younger just thought she was a cunt (being my punk days anyway). Its popular to hate her based on some very naive opinions.
Just keep blaming/thanking leaders for being in office while unrelated factors affected the economy, without looking into their actual effect any further. It's really smart.
I thought she was elected in 79 and then reelected twice?
Sorry, misread your post as 'elected'
Reminds me of when the US celebrated the death of Osama Bin Laden and every thread that talked about it had people going, "Shame on you for celebrating the death of a Human being!"

Milk is more important than mass-murder to some people.

i've been taught about thatcher, her policies, the "new right", what changed during her time in office, what she stood for, her strong individualism.
maybe young people in scotland were having a party because learning about her is part of the Higher Politics curriculum?
I've been through the Scottish education system and I know shit about Thatcher through it - spent ages on Nazi Germany though.
This is what we learn in Modern Studies - http://www.sqa.org.uk/files_ccc/NQ_Mod_Studies_H_Arrangements.pdf
It doesn't focus on Thatcher at all and more about how Government itself functions and what the parties believe, not about indepth analysis on Thatcherite policies, that's not how the Modern Studies course is structured. Even if it touches on Thatcher, it is absolutely not structured in a way that would make you go "Yes, the witch is dead, lets have a party!".

My school never did it. Also there are plenty of both that I still know from school that went on twitter to 'celebrate' her death, it's the culture to do it not because they have knowledge of what she did.

how do you know they didn't do their research?
like, not saying they've all read deeply into it, but you can't say everyone is just a mindless sheep.
