The article doesn't say why the police were in his house in the first place
I'm sorry, no more than 2 guns per safe? That is absolutely fucking retarded. I don't give a shit about "We think of guns differently here" that's just flat-out retarded. So you can get a 24-gun safe, and legally cannot put more than 2 guns in it? That is the stupidest fucking thing I have ever heard. Then the police can search your house without a warrant or notice to check this? And people say we Canadians should be emulating this nonsense?
It is silly, you can only store more in one safe if you're the owner of a shooting range and they are licensed range guns (mostly shotguns and single shot rifles), but that's only because it makes fucking sense. As for safes... well you just don't buy a big ass safe. :v: Also they can come and request a search but you can deny them. However it's not recommended because really if you're storing firearms you'll know your firearms officer pretty well because they'll send the same one out every time. So essentially you're getting a friend who drops in every now and then to tick some checkboxes, have a drink and a chat then they bugger off to do the same thing with someone else.
Fucks sake, for having two shotguns tucked away in his basement, this guy could be getting a sentence that is 9 months less than someone who was a prolific paedophile, justice system my fucking arse.
Accidental rate. :v:

That's so dumb. In Canada there's one Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) per province and his staff. His job is to make owning and using a gun as big of a pain in the ass as possible. He mostly does this over the phone whenever you have to call for something by leaving you on hold for 4 hours and/or denying you paperwork you need on arbitrary grounds, resulting in several people bringing him to court. He has the authority to inspect your setup, thankfully it is not mandatory, but only if he knows you own more than 10 guns, and he still needs your permission. I have never heard of anyone being inspected, because most of this country's CFOs and their staff are lazy, but should they decide they want to perform an inspection, you can tell them to fuck off and get a warrant. Around here, no member of the bureaucracy administering the Firearms Act is any gun owner's friend.
