it did look out of place tbh so im glad they modernised it a bit, doesn't look half bad anyway, just getting with the times really
I wish they'd use Comic Sans for maximum butthurt of people.
din't liked it, looks way too childist
I think the stroke width is a hair too thick, but otherwise I guess it's alright. I am a fan of Futura-esque fonts, but something about the old Google font felt very iconic; something about the serifs. They've been subtly dropping the shading over the years, but the logo itself has been the same for a decade and a half.

I prefer fonts with serifs, but I can understand the entire philosophy behind it - particularly the dots are nice.
Wonder how many seconds it took them to come up with this ingenious logo redesign.
Fuck sans serif logos.

Is that the same google from the gmail man logo?

Heineken should sue them for using the "smiling e"
How much did they pay for a guy to come in and say "What if we just changed the font family?"
That lower case 'g' seems familiar...

RIP GOOGLE 2000-2015
just jk, but the logo from 2000 up to now was imo the best, maybe cuz I grew up with it, I dunno
Ehh... I'm not a fan of it but it's not that bad. Hate that they couldn't of been bothered to keep the funny-looking g though.
i always liked that fancy g
now they've gone and ruined it
rip
Congrats google, your hipsters and infestation of numb-minded 25-30somethings who think they know what the future will be have made you a joke. Microsoft is already sending you a cake.
First it was Youtube, then it was Chrome. Now your logo looks like it was done by a pussy who didn't want to see what other fonts he had loaded.
The old logo was always garish and terrible. You've just gotten used to it.
It's still garish but why give a fuck anyway

It matches Alphabet, that's reason enough change it. You don't need to act like the world is over because it's different, and certainly not because you or anyone else think serifs are better.
I'd like to say its funny how people call the logo childish and then proceed to say things like this, but it's actually just sad.
Anyway, I'm not a fan of geometric typeface but it suits material design (aka circles) so I guess it makes sense.
They used a typical Sans Serif font and simply changed the color to each letter, that's some mind blowing shit.
This is like someone promising you meatloaf for dinner and just handing you a hamburger patty.
Im not a fan of these new "flat" designs. Making all the lines in the letters a constant width is just boring.
I'm tired of the whole flat and solid graphics design fad in general, everything looks so lazy and boring now

Lol dude, I don't think you really have any credibility in talking shit about modern redesigns considering you still use windows xp. Times change, who other than you considers Google a joke because of "hipsters and numb-minded 25-30somethings"? They're the people who know style and make shit evolve
It's about the subtleties. Rotating the e just another degree or moving any of the letters a single pixel in any direction would ruin it
Nothing lazy about it at all. I really like the compact logo too, matches nicely with the Chrome logo, and how they brightened up the colors a bit
Logos like these are a great example of the kind of thing that non-designers THINK they could do easily, but if they actually tried it wouldn't come out nearly as good. Check out the website in the OP to see how much thought there is put into this stuff
Is it just me or are the dots in the dots logo not aligned?

yeah they just opened up photoshop and put the text tool and wrote it and put it online.
singers just move their mouth around and exhale air to make songs
artists just move the brushes around and they make art

It's Pentium. He's always reactionary about anything new.

You forgot they had to select and rotate the e to make it look like it's smiling.
There was a lot of effort put into this.
Is it just me or are the dots in the dots logo not aligned?
Yeah it's just a screenshot from the website, where they're animated and moving in sort of a wave. I don't think they're supposed to ever be displayed in a static way
The most bland logo design for a software company in 2015
it looks so bland and safe, like some template for a logo, which is a bad thing because it won't stand out from the other 938498 logos that look the same
Rotating the e just another degree or moving any of the letters a single pixel in any direction would ruin it
i can't tell if you're being serious or not
I really like it. I'm a big fan of simple minimalism, and it's a very nice typeface. Even though I grew up with the other one, I do feel like the serif font thing is outdated. Not a fan. However, I think it would be neat if it was very simple serif, with small square notches. I like it. You would have to be hard-pressed to associate this with some sort of hipster williamsburg coffee movement.
The typical design philosophy in this day & age, and quite fittingly, is simple flat vector shapes. It makes sense. Subtle, smart, and easy to make, but difficult to nail properly. It simplifies and cleans everything up design wise. Certainly better than 2005 Photoshop bevel and drop shadow effects philosophy that plague the graphic design world for what seemed like forever. As long as the graphic is simple, but intuitive (reads easily, instantly recognizable by shape and brand), then I think it's successful
Logos are getting too simple nowadays. They are all literally just one font which is only different from all the other fonts that look like it because the angles are 0.5° different.
Big corporations are only showing how plain and boring they are.
