I like that one too. It has enough personality and doesn't take up as much space, not to mention that the Z in the original one looks outdated.

The only unique thing it has is the checkmark, the rest is basically Helvetica Neue Bold... I don't know how that registers as "personality."

I like it, it means companies are starting to identify themselves using a name instead of flashy pictures.
When Google changes its logo again in 5 years, we'll all be lamenting how wonderful this one was and how terrible the new one is.
I really like it, I'm surprised they stuck with that font for as long as they did.
So it appears that the new google's logo was designed by a russian designer in 2008. All they did is contacted him, bought rights and did a few changes. Original 2008 post (russian)

I don't disagree, the old Verizon logo was uglier than shit, but I'd take ugly over boring any day. At least the old one was recognizable.

You can't recognize a company by its name?

I think what he means is that it stood out. Which it did, but not in a good way. For me its the logo of tyrannical necessary evil. :v:
After looking at the Google logo for some time now, I do miss the uniqueness of the g. I wish they at least retained that part of it.

Yeah, the way I see it, they decided "Let's make a new logo,"
"Hey I know I have this cool generic font!"
"Let's use it"
"Hey that looks good but let's make sure people know that we're ~artistic~"
"Good idea, you go write out an overcomplicated thought process"
"shit we forgot to make the g look cool"
"ehh forget it who cared about that anyways"
Logos have to work when displayed on a smartphone screen, you can't make them too complicated
Especially when phones have 2K resolution screen
This logo looks like a nightmare for people with dyslexia.
It isn't

I agree, I thought that was the entire point of google's logo in terms of standing out. Now it looks bland.
