This time he nailed it

He was also the swing on citizens united, so not exactly perfect. but like I said, libertarian leaning.
Here's the final status of the US gay marriage fight before the Supreme Court dropped a nuke on it:

Yeah, what the Supreme Court did(besides being the right thing to do) was just speed up the inevitable, gay marriage in the US sped up considerably in just the last few years, out of the 38 states that had it legalized before now, 26 of those were just in 2013-2014.

Oh man the wait to see facebook comments is gonna be fucking amazing.
Abso-fucking-lutely amazing. The Fox News comments are both hilarious and frightening though.
hopefully most homophobes willbe gone soon. even the law says gay people are fine.
Suddenly Georgia and some of the other states secede. :v:

"Well, this looks like it’s the end for our American freedoms. They force gays on the church, take God out of schools, take guns away from law-abiding citizens, censor conservatives and prosecute police officers who are just doing their job. Won’t be long now until we reach Obama’s communist utopia."
Top comment, and he's very serious.
My facebook is fucking imploding.
Someone get me out of Alabama, anarchy is about to kick in.
The final paragraph of the Court's opinion is pretty much a mic drop:
No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.
The judgment of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit is reversed.
We can laugh all day at Fox News, they won't do jack shit besides rile up a bunch of conservatives.
Suddenly Georgia and some of the other states secede. :v:
People are pretty used to the idea of homosexuality now and it really doesn't affect anyone in any way. There might be anger from bigots but really it just let's people have the legal right to be happy and have the same opportunities legally in partnership. yay

I haven't seen anyone implode on my FB, this upsets me deeply because I live in Alabama too and I wanna drink their tears. Not even gay but this just too funny to see people this asshurt.

States have to follow the constitution too.
Wow, that's a lot more states than I thought. I guess I wasn't keeping track.
of course I don't need to keep track anymore, so
Just 5 years ago only 6 of those states would have been fully blue.
okay u got 2 be kiddin me its okay to wave the gay rainbow flag everywhere now but u can't wave the historic confederate flag what has this country become this is PROOF that the government owns us all and they are gonna try to take our guns next just you WATCH
People are pretty used to the idea of homosexuality now and it really doesn't affect anyone in any way. There might be anger from bigots but really it just let's people have the legal right to be happy and have the same opportunities legally in partnership. yay
Exactly, a vocal minority of bigots will be the only real opposition.
Finally this can disappear as a political platform. Hopefully within a couple years any candidate who supports bigotry in the guise of "protecting the traditional family" or whatever will just be laughed at by everyone.
first they ban the confederate flag then then legalise gay marriage
the US is doomed

I was joking you idiots.
anyway read scalia's dissent, he sounds like a hilariously petty asshole
I join THE CHIEF JUSTICE’s opinion in full. I write separately to call attention to this Court’s threat to American democracy. The substance of today’s decree is not of immense personal importance to me. The law can recognize as marriage whatever sexual attachments and living arrangements it wishes, and can accord them favorable civil consequences, from tax treatment to rights of inheritance.
2 OBERGEFELL v. HODGES
SCALIA, J., dissenting
Those civil consequences—and the public approval that conferring the name of marriage evidences—can perhaps have adverse social effects, but no more adverse than the effects of many other controversial laws. So it is not of special importance to me what the law says about marriage. It is of overwhelming importance, however, who it is that rules me. Today’s decree says that my Ruler, and the Ruler of 320 million Americans coast-to-coast, is a majority of the nine lawyers on the Supreme Court. The opinion in these cases is the furthest extension in fact—and the furthest extension one can even imagine—of the Court’s claimed power to create “liberties” that the Constitution and its Amendments neglect to mention. This practice of constitutional revision by an unelected committee of nine, always accompanied (as it is today) by extravagant praise of liberty, robs the People of the most important liberty they asserted in the Declaration of
Independence and won in the Revolution of 1776: the freedom to govern themselves.
I'm looking forward to the waves this will make internationally. This ruling puts a little more pressure on Australia to keep up with the times.

"This will destroy America, not that I care or anything about this ruling or anything, and doom will befall us all. Did I mention I don't care about this ruling that destroys American democracy?"

But I live in TN, and I love my state..
Found this on the Guardian article. For anyone who wants to know about same-sex marriage through the years:

Mmm no Scalia sorry
when people are totally comfortable with their marriages being a gawd-given right but aren't willing to extend that right to other groups, the people don't deserve to govern themselves because they show they can't do it fairly. Tyranny of the majority and all that.
