I wonder if we'll ever understand the brain good enough to make it directly interface with our tech. Imagine an actual VR experience for instance, I.E a controlled dream more or less, would make it possible for people like in the OP to get stimulated and interact directly with friends and family in a virtual space inside of their heads. Would obviously also result in physically healthy people escaping from reality all together

In the same way we can't know whether or not reality is actually just a simulation being run on some kind of otherwordly computer and a million other philosophical questions; no
