Well... technically, couldn't humans also be deliberately selected to create breeds?
No because the genetic variation in homo-sapiens is so small compared to most animal species that you won't make distinct breeds.
Have we tried? I'm curious. I mean, isn't that like how evolution works? Then again... I guess it might be a bit insane... but damn it, I want to know if it would work. Think of the possibilities!

If you got someone from China, and someone from Nigeria to reproduce you would not make a new breed of human. The genetic variance is so small compared to per say, dog breeds. vs Its not even limited to domesticated dogs. They're so many types of wolves, dogs and foxes and so on.
What about the people in the world know for being born with the strange defect of being covered with hair? What about people born with webbed hands? Think of the usages! [editline]6th April 2013[/editline] what about people born with more actually functional fingers? [editline]6th April 2013[/editline] Man... I know selective breeding of humans would be immoral as all hell, but damn if it wouldn't be fucking awesome

Its not, its just a hereditary condition.
you really just keep posting white supremacist propoganda, are you from stormfront or something?
I don't actually agree with the video, it's funny.
But that is like saying that couples with down syndrome who have children are making a breed of human with down syndrome. Its not, its just a hereditary condition.
Well, what's the difference? [editline]7th April 2013[/editline] just seems like semantics to me
Well, what's the difference? [editline]7th April 2013[/editline] just seems like semantics to me
Because
despite the centrality of the idea of "breeds" to animal husbandry, no scientifically accepted definition of the term exists
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breed
Sooo... breeds among humans is possible, considering there is no real binding definition of the word? Technically they do not exist, but that doesn't stop us from doing the exact type of selective breeding we can do with cats and dogs? They would create new breeds of humans, although the term is only in an abstract form and has no real scientific significance? [editline]7th April 2013[/editline] awesome

Again, humans lack the needed variation. Something you're not understanding.
No because its specifically to do with animal husbandry and domestication.
So the only reason it's not possible with human is simply because of ethical reasons?
So the only reason it's not possible with human is simply because of ethical reasons?
Because humans are not that different.
Well you gotta start small, combine into bigger things, until the small differences have become large enough to be distinguishing features. Like how you can breed a dog to have such a flat nose that it has trouble breathing through it
Because humans are not that different.
but if someone decided to breed humans with specific traits for hundreds or thousand of generations we would probably see some changes. not gonna happen by itself though.
not ethical, but possible
No because the genetic variation in homo-sapiens is so small compared to most animal species that you won't make distinct breeds.
Thanks for that, I went to wikipedia and wasted an hour reading up on early hominids, homo florensis, and time divisions of the holocene. At least I now know that 2 species of homo have lived within the holocene (12,000 BP til now) and have interbred with each other.

At most by breeding humans from different parts of the world, you would create a new ethnicity (like the Mestizos in New Spain), with their culture imported too. Of course, the Spanish tried to keep a record of who fucked who, and eventually ran into problems when the people which came out appeared so similar that after 1 or 2 generations it was pointless to decide if they were native/african/european/asian.
heres a thought, why are black bears called black but white bears polar? i'll give you the answer: white genocide
and aids bad aids
as opposed to good aids?
