It'd be nice if they innovated instead of recreating the same mario/zelda games with slightly better graphics, it's more rampent than COD, its like every year theres a new mario kart, mario bros with the exact same gameplay as before.
Creating some iconic game characters and soley depending on them to sell your consoles and fuel your company for years will only get you so far.
Let's just never release new games in a series ever because they have the same gameplay.
Adding huge twists like flying, underwater segments, and zero gravity segments? Nah, just rehashing the same shit, right?
Ugh.

TitanFall, Watch Dogs, and Destiny already made a lot in pre-orders
This time I have a source

I had misspoke on when it got better, it was about 2003, but I had found the source of the claim of it's market share.

Wonderful 101 got almost zero advertising.
That's the problem, Nintendo is just banking on brand recognition for their products and as a result third party stuff is getting shafted.
The timing for the Wii U release was ill-advised to say the least. My guess is they wanted to release it a year before the XBone and PS4 to avoid competition but that decision hurt them more than anything considering the console didn't have nearly enough games ready to be worth getting.
If anything waiting for an additional year and release the console at the same time as the PS4 and XBone would have been a better move because the console would have had more games ready and people would have actually been able to compare it with the two other consoles instead of waiting for another year to compare everything.
It doesn't help the console was barely even advertised, much less so than the Wii. There was even less advertisement for the games, it just swooped under the radar.
The big failure of the Wii U is advertising in NA and Europe. When they should be marketing towards core gamers (as this is who Nintendo is clearly making games for, look at Nintendoland as a pack in game as opposed to Wii Sports) They're marketing it almost solely at casuals. The commercials are rare and extremely weak. What they should be doing is showing off all of the system sellers in commercials (games like NSMBU, Super Mario 3D Land, Pikmin 3, etc.) but they aren't even making an effort. The best marketing they're doing is in Nintendo Directs and pretty much anyone who'd actually watch those already owns a Wii U.

A lot of people do.

Not nearly as much as Smash Bros and unique Mario games, but you know
Wasn't there an article that said a visual novel that ended in [sp]fucking your sister[/sp] sold more than Wind Waker HD in a similar time frame.

Aren't all of those pretty casual games though? I can't speak for pikmin but the last hard mario game I played was super mario land on the gameboy :v:

being a publically traded company is a bad idea anyway.

Yes, but I doubt there's any [sp]actual sex in the game[/sp]
Mario isn't casual, casual games are games where you can't actually lose per say.
Mario is easy, sure, but it's not casual. Bejeweled is a casual game.
Pretty much every hardcore gamer dismissed this game as a furry simulator because of the cat suit.
I have never heard anyone call it a fucking furry simulator. How the hell would someone even come to that conclusion in the first place?

Not every game Nintendo makes/publishes is "casual".

Casual game doesn't mean no way to lose, and in any case if you lose one of the two mario games mentioned they give you an option to have a perma invincibility suit for the level... that's like so casual that you couldn't bring it to dinner

They released it at the end of 2012 to avoid issues with filling orders since that's what happened with the Wii since they thought there would be a similar demand for the Wii U.
Boy were they wrong.

Obviously, but I'm referring to the ones they listed.

That isn't casual at all. That suit is 100% optional, you can pick to use it or not. If anything that suit was added to help kids or inexperienced games get to the next level since some people have a bad temper with games and would sell it the minute they hit a point they can't get past.

None of which are casual games as people seem to think.

Everybody and everything turns into a cat at some point.

Stillll sounding casual to me. I'd consider them pretty casual either way, that's just a pretty extreme sign.
None of which are casual games as people seem to think.
It's kinda more the nintendo fans specifically that are disagreeing with me here :v:
Because you're wrong (for the most part)?
[editline]18th January 2014[/editline]
Because YOU think a game is casual doesn't mean it's actually a casual game. It seems like no one really knows what an actual casual game is.
As said before, a good example of a casual game is some like Bejeweled, or Peggle.

Maybe he just meant people thought it was going to just be centered around a new power-up gimmick.
Wii U needs more games and more advertising. Nobody's going to buy a system that doesn't have a good supply of games and one that nobody is talking about or pumped up about.
I have quite a few friends interested in the system, but since they're no real "system sellers" other than 1 good Mario game, 1 good Pikmin game and a remake of a Zelda game, they'd rather not buy any new console at all. The new Zelda and Smash may alleviate that, but Nintendo needs more good first/second party games. The N64 was so good because of first and second party games. You had Smash, Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Kirby, Star Fox, and all the second party games from Rare like Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Conker. Other than the games by Hudson Soft, there weren't really any "amazing" third-party games like the SNES had with Street Fighter II and the shitloads of RPGS. The Wii had a lot of good multiplayer on-the-couch games like Brawl, Mario Kart, and Wii Sports, and also had a lot of good mix of platformers and "hardcore" games like Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, the Galaxy games, Skyward Sword, Donkey Kong Country, and Last Story. There needs to be a good supply of content and a promise of more good content to come for people to buy a Wii U.
Also, Nintendo has been sucking with advertising. Hell, quite a few people thought the Wii U was an addon for the Wii. They need to focus on making good commercials that showcase all of the good games they'll be making and pump people up for the system. Xbox One had good commercials that showcased all you could do with the system, and while the launch titles were mediocre they had good enough commercials to make people think they'd be cool.
Hell, I've had my eye on the Wii U mostly because I know about what's to come (hopefully it'll be good), but until I get proof of a large supply of good games on the console I'm going to wait before I buy one, and many people probably feel the same.
They might as well start making games for other consoles because personally, there is absolutely nothing that is going to make me buy a Wii U or 3DS.
They might as well start making games for other consoles because personally, there is absolutely nothing that is going to make me buy a Wii U or 3DS.
Never going to happen. Nintendo has stated multiple times they rather close their doors than make games for some other company's console.
Which I don't quite understand, but they have been around for so long they probably think they shouldn't have to or they know they can take a lose like this for years while they try to get their shit together.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.
I have no idea what you're trying to say.
Did you honestly not understand that simple analogy and then rate me dumb :v:? Point is mario might not be as casual as peggle or bejewelled but it's still pretty casual. It's not like casual game has a very strictly defined definition so people are going to vary in what they think is casual. In my opinion games that are very simple and can be beaten by most people who are very bad at video games are casual, that's all.
It was bad anaolgy.
And it was a dumb comparison now that you explained what you were trying to say. I'll keep rating you dumb since I'm finding a lot of your posts to be dumb as you keep rating me funny since I'm apparently tickling your funny bone.

I do think it's pretty funny how aggressively you're defending the game "not being casual". I mean it's not necessarily like casual = bad but it seems it really bothers you for some reason. You can keep finding my posts dumb all you want but they're really not, I'm far from the only person who thinks mario is casual
I don't see how I'm being aggressive at all. If you want to see people agressivly defending a game/console go to the Wii U subreddit, it's insane there. But I think the recent new on how Nintendo is doing has been a reality check for them, or at least I hope it was.
What bothers me is how it seems almost everything that isn't a fast paced shooter or a AAA title is considered casual these days. It's a label for games that really has no meaning anymore, it's getting dumb. But I guess most of the blame for that comes from how companies market their games but throwing "hardcore" on to every game they develop/publish.

It has plenty of meaning still, games that are reasonably easy to complete for someone who's not very good at video games. I mean shooters aren't exactly the hardest games on the market but they do require pretty fast reflexes which means most people who don't play a lot of games won't be able to finish them.
