Let's just never release new games in a series ever because they have the same gameplay. Adding huge twists like flying, underwater segments, and zero gravity segments? Nah, just rehashing the same shit, right? Ugh.
Yes, it is rehashing the same shit, you are playing the same game over and over just with prettier graphics, I know as i've played alot of them at a nintendo obsessed friends house. fanboys! ugh!
That isn't casual at all. That suit is 100% optional, you can pick to use it or not. If anything that suit was added to help kids or inexperienced games get to the next level since some people have a bad temper with games and would sell it the minute they hit a point they can't get past.
Uhmm, so what you're saying - let me get this right - is that the suit is there so casual gamers won't get mad when they can't progress to the next level?? Don't get me wrong, Mario games are pretty hard (at least the old ones I've played), but that whole concept is the very definition of casual - not saying the whole game is casual, but you're delusional if you think it isn't there to make the game appeal more to casual players.
I never said the suit isn't there for casual gamers. The suit is there to help them. If you're an experienced player you'll most likely never see that power up.

How about if we introduced a "win battle" button in Total War, so if you lost a couple of battles you could simply press it and win anyway? Or maybe a "Receive money from above" button, so if you had, say, five turns of negative money balance, you'd simply receive a 100000 and keep on playing? I mean, it's only there for the casual gamers.
Christmas is over pal.
It depends if they actually based the projection on fiscal years or not. I can't really find that right now. It's entirely possible that the holidays haven't been accounted for yet.
An item that functions as an assist, that you can still die while using, doesn't not make a whole game casual. Especially when it's completely optional when it does show up. It's not an instant win. [editline]18th January 2014[/editline] An instant win button in Total War is not the same as power up in Mario

I haven't got the chance to play 3D World, but if it it's easy as 3D Land, the white tanooki suit is pointless because you'd be getting a few 1-ups every level.
I saw barely any 1-ups while playing, though I did lose them a lot faster since I was doing co-op.
Not just from the mushrooms, but from the butloads of coins, and they made it easier to hit the top of the flagpole.
Not just from the mushrooms, but from the butloads of coins, and they made it easier to hit the top of the flagpole.
Not really. Hitting the top of flag pole works the way it did in the 2D Mario games and 3D Land by having those blocks, or something else to jump on, but now most of them have enemies walking on them or they disappear if you're not fast enough. The only wato be guaranteed to hit the top is to be in the cat suit which isn't available in every level.
Not just from the mushrooms, but from the butloads of coins, and they made it easier to hit the top of the flagpole.
It's been a while since i've played but i'm pretty sure in 3D world you don't get a 1-UP from the top of the flagpole. In addition, 1-UP mushrooms are actually pretty scarse and hard to find. Coins actually have a value in 3D world; when i co-oped it with a friend we game over'd more than once, and by myself I only had about ~15 lives when I beat it.

I wouldn't know about New Super Mario Bros other than DS and Wii, I don't play those.
It just seemed easier to do in 3D Land than the NES games. I wouldn't know about New Super Mario Bros, I don't play those.
It might be since you're able to manuever a bit better to avoid things. But in some levels it's a bit tricky if you're not quick enough. I've messed up quite a few times but misjudging when I need to jump before a platform vanished, or sometimes I'm just clumsy and run straight into any enemy.
It just seemed easier to do in 3D Land than the NES games. I wouldn't know about New Super Mario Bros, I don't play those.
Super Mario Bros, it isn't that hard to do. You don't get a 1-Up, but it's not that difficult. The two blocks running start is always enough to hit the top (and it's exactly the same in SMB2J, but easier with Luigi.) In Super Mario Bros 2, there's no equivalent, every level ends with either an eagle head or a door opening, and in Super Mario Bros 3 it's easier to get end-of-level 1-Ups than ever because if you time your run into the end of level block right, you always get a star.
Oh, I thought I was barely missing it.
Yeah, the first game to have that was the first NSMB game on DS.
As much as I love Nintendo they really need to clean up their act. It's been said before but first parties are fine and good- Mario 3D World is excellent and I'm happy to have a Wii-U but I'm in the minority here in thinking it's a good investment. Kamiya recently said he wants to do a Wonderful 102, let him do that. Hire Capcom to make a Wii-U exclusive Fighting Game or Resident Evil, spend some of that Scrooge Money on 3rd parties instead of pumping out the same goddamn thing. Give everyone a reason to play it. When the console first came out and they said "look we're supporting mature gamers with Zombi-U" That has fucking died now it's all super colorful harmless games (which I enjoy, mind) and really REALLY shitty ports because no dev currently gives a shit about the tablet outside Platinum. People need to stop posting saying "Heh the 3DS will keep them afloat nintendo just needs to keep on keeping on :^)" because it's obviously not working. Also dude who said Mario Kart isn't a rehash because it has 0-G now please stop posting. It is. I'm getting it and it's going to be fun but just because a track can curve upside down doesn't mean it's a entirely new game. Just because Double Dash added a second driver and item balancing doesn't mean it's a new never before seen game. It's the same thing just with new twists. If they made Mario... shit what HASN'T Mario done? Like I'm trying to think of a example. "If Mario played Basketball that would be new- wait he did do that. If Mario was a RPG sta- shit." etc. Point is just because there's a fun new gimmick to the gameplay, it doesn't mean it's not a rehash. There's a reason there's a 8 in the title.
The Wii U was shaping up to be something that would changed their image with games like Zombie U and Bayonetta 2 being Wii U exclusives, and I'm still curious as to why the 3DS Resident Evil port became multiplatform but whatever. But like Sift said, all of that died quickly since Nintendo themselves did nothing to promote/keep that new image. Maybe if they developed their own "mature" game to go along with those titles some people's opinions may have changed and people would have given them a chance. They missed a pretty big opportunity there. [editline]18th January 2014[/editline]
Also dude who said Mario Kart isn't a rehash because it has 0-G now please stop posting. We only get one of those games every generation while CoD is literally every year.
^^^ Yeah I don't get it either. They don't bang on your door every year and when they show up their genuinely pretty good quality wise. It's honestly more of a "DO SOMETHING NEW" shout at this point.
The Wii U was shaping up to be something that would changed their image with games like Zombie U and Bayonetta 2 being WII U exclusives, and I'm still curious as to why the 3DS Resident Evil port with multiplatform but whatever. Lots of people were saying that they didn't own a 3DS and saying "if you port this we'll buy it" so they did. Nintendo didn't try to stop them like they didn't try to stop Rayman and another exclusive slipped away. They just don't care right now because Mario will surely save us. End of the line here they need to 1: Make games you buy tied to accounts. If my Wii-U breaks I don't want to have to call some hotline to get things fixed, the fear of main tied accounts is literally insane after Sony and Microsoft have proven it works for the past 6-7 years. 2: Hold onto exclusives and stop letting them go. Rayman made me buy a Wii-U, I was on the fence as I love Nintendo games but Origins was so fantastic I just had to get Legends. I know people who were going to get a Wii-U just to play it- then they lost it because microsoft waved money at them. (I can go into the whole story if needed) 3: Try to get back the "hardcore" market. Kids these days aren't too big on colorful platformers. I don't think Mario should ever have a gun or anything but as you said they need a "mature" game that they can develop- and not just Metroid (though I'd love a new metroid...) 4: Get a better marketing team. I don't think a kid alive will buy into a commercial about children begging mom and dad to be cats in Mario. Sony had this big kickass trailer for the PS4 showing some dude walking through a torn up city with a shit ton of Sony characters doing their thing and screamed THE FUTURE IS YOURS or whatever. Timmy and Sally meowing at a camera is not as bombastic or interesting. 5: Get rid of Region Locking. Get rid of it outright. There's no reason for it at all in this day and age and it's a big point that I think only Sony has in their favor right now (I don't know about Microsoft) 6: Stop listening to fans that say "don't worry wait for x to come out!" It's been a full year and these first party games as good as they are are NOT going to save them on their own. The gamepad is garbage right now. Nobody is using it outside Kamiya and the most it's done is be a item screen or map. That's not interesting in the slightest and it's absolutely pointless- especially with how bad the range of wireless is. Cripes I love Nintendo and I'm eager to get Bravely Default and Donkey Kong but there's so many things they need to improve. I'm mad about video games you guys
Nintendo: stop fucking around and put some decent first party down. Two Super Mario sidescrollers are already out before you've even launched a 3D Mario, Zelda, or even Star Fox/Metroid/F-Zero title. And sweet fucking jesus hurry up on Smash Bros, that game will sell more Wii Us than anything ever. Keep this shit up and they'll be talking about the Wii U like it was the Dreamcast.

[t]http://wiiudaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/3D-World-Boxart.jpg[/t][t]http://www.technobuffalo.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/The-Wind-Waker-HD-Boxart.jpg[/t]
3D World is not a 3D Mario. Have you even played the game? And Wind Waker is a GC game, not a Wii-U game. Remakes don't sell consoles. Not sure why so many people rated my post dumb when the evidence is right there. It makes even less sense when people echoing my sentiment get agrees. It's like this thread is bi-polar. Oh and about the Virtual Console: are we seriously going to have to wait while Nintendo takes 3 years to convert all the existing VC games over before we ever see a new one? It's bullshit.
3D World is not a 3D Mario. Have you even played the game?
Am I seriously fucking reading this right now
please sega return to us and grace us with the Dreamcast 2 featuring Shenmue 3, a new Jet Set Radio, and a next-gen Virtua Fighter as launch titles jaleel white will ride in on a blue horse during E3 and announce it
Am I seriously fucking reading this right now
"3D Mario" is defined as being in the same branch as 64, Galaxy, etc. So yeah, 3D world isn't a 3D mario.
Seems weird for me to see people cry out for more advertising for the WiiU. During the holiday season, I saw tons of WiiU ads on TV, and I don't even have cable at home.
"3D Mario" is defined as being in the same branch as 64, Galaxy, etc. So yeah, 3D world isn't a 3D mario.
It isn't a 2D sidescrolling Mario game either. So what is then hm?
"3D Mario" is defined as being in the same branch as 64, Galaxy, etc. So yeah, 3D world isn't a 3D mario.
Just because the game isn't a Collectathon like Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy, it still doesn't make 3D World 'not 3D'.
What the need to do is create an new IP I'm actually interested in. All the titles Nintendo have made are cartoony and kiddish, they just aren't for me. Never liked the Pokemon, Mario, or Super Smash Brothers shit they keep pumping out.

To be fair, Mario 3d World does seem a bit closer in spirit to the 2d games than it does to 64/Sunshine/Galaxy
What the need to do is create an new IP I'm actually interested in.
