payed 15$ for it, and im glad i did
How are the retail prices? Are they still $200 for Professional?
I work at staples and we had them on sale for $69.99, and there was a coupon around to bring it down to $39.99. Regular price is $199
One of my PC's is still on vista. Time for an upgrade.
My friend wants to build a new PC, if he has an old laptop that has Windows 7 on it can he some how buy the upgrade and use it on his new PC? Is there anything he can do to get it cheap?
It doesn't take much for microsoft to spit out a $15 upgrade, that's really cheap for a Windows OS
Not here in Ireland from what I can see. I was on a website earlier and a upgrade to Windows 8 was 62 euro. He wants to install it on his new PC not upgrade the old PC. And a new version of Windows 8 is 92 euro over here Which is like 20 quid more than Windows 7
I'll probably get it for my new system I'll be building soon
I'll be waiting for Windows 10.
WindowsX
Question, can it run old games from the Win 95 to XP era?
I just can't get my head round the metro and desktop programmes being different instances of the same thing. It's so baffling the way its made. I'm going to give it a miss for now :/
whatever, native DOS support made this an instant buy anyways. cya in kings quest, nerds~

Metro applications run in their own little "sandbox" like environment, where a desktop application can't interact with them, and they can't interact in return. Desktop applications just run like they always have. There's nothing particularly confusing about this.
whatever, native DOS support made this an instant buy anyways. cya in kings quest, nerds~
Can you explain this?
Question, can it run old games from the Win 95 to XP era?
About the same as Windows 7. If you have 64 bit, 16 bit games aren't going to work obviously, but if they worked in 7, they most likely will work in 8.
Question, can it run old games from the Win 95 to XP era?
yep, even has native DOS support, crash in peace, DOSBox
There are people buying an OS on launch? Really?
Can you explain this?
basically they're bringing back support for games & programs designed around DOS. we used to use DOSBox due to windows not supporting programs that old, but msoft was like 'lol btw native dos integration '. basically we can play xcom and whatnot without 3rd party programs

DOSBox is still required for the majority of games.
Honestly I have no problem with the new start screen. I was skeptical at first, but you really don't have to use it if you don't want too and with my OS on my ssd my boot up time is nearly instant probably cut about 5 seconds off windows 7 time. I can open chrome and have it working as soon as the computer turns on. Definitely worth 40 dollars for me.
microsoft what ever you're trying it ain't working I'll stay on win 7.
It says you're on XP Hamar :v:
I paid $48.02 for Windows 8 Pro.... Purchase of the year!
15.75 lrn2coupon
15.75 lrn2coupon
DUDE NICE. Where'd you get the coupon? And serious question: The only thing I do on my computer is play Skyrim and occasionally go online. Should I get this?

You have to be naughty to use the coupon, hint.

One of my windows fanboy friends keeps telling me I need to get this. I expect I'll get it sometime next year, once it's had some bug-fixes. I've found that using any operating system within the first few months of release is a painful experience. Apparently I should drop 7 NOW, because it's inferior. I remember discussing Linux with him. He said that one thing that makes Windows better is that everything can be done using the mouse, which is a more intuitive interface than typing commands. Skip forward about a year to a discussion on Win8: "I've heard that Metro can be a pain for mouse users, because it was designed for touch-screen compatibility" "Just use the keyboard. It's not difficult."
