how much of this is due to windows 8 being 60% cheaper than its predecessor for everyone that owns windows 7?
lol w7 was the same i love this it seems like everyone is getting upset because the OS they hated because of the metro design is actually doing good.
I'm sure Windows 8 will be great for a lot of people, but I'm not going to upgrade because it doesn't do a single thing I care about that Windows 7 doesn't do.
Apparently it finally has proper multi monitor support, and I get it for free as a student, so I'm considering getting it.
There are people buying an OS on launch? Really?
Buy it now when it's stupid cheap, install it later when it works. That discount for $15 isn't going to last forever.
It works now? I upgraded to Windows 7 on launch and had no issues. Windows 8 is no different.
microsoft what ever you're trying it ain't working I'll stay on win 7.
4 million sales in like a week i think it's working pretty fucking well.
Windows 2000 - Shitty
Question: Are you high? Hell, I would be hard pressed to say 95 was shit. It had its issues, but it basically pioneered the basic UI model and conventions Windows has used up until now. Except for the old start menu, its still used in 8.
I will be waiting for Windows 9 based on Microsoft's pattern: Windows 95 - Shitty Windows 98 - Good Windows 2000 - Shitty Windows XP - Good Windows Vista - Shitty Windows 7 - Good Windows 8 - Shitty Windows 9 - Good
This shit again... Also Windows 2000 - Shitty? It's widely regarded as one of the best. Funny how people struggle to present a pattern that isn't there. Not to mention when XP came out it was considered shitty.
I will be waiting for Windows 9 based on Microsoft's pattern: Windows 95 - Shitty Windows 98 - Good Windows 2000 - Shitty Windows XP - Good Windows Vista - Shitty Windows 7 - Good Windows 8 - Shitty Windows 9 - Good
Yep Windows 2000 was totally shitty. /s Windows XP was considered to be a piece of shit until Service Pack 2, just so you know. There is no pattern and just by bringing this false pattern up you have discredited yourself.
lrn2student
huh, I dont see that option...
hey look another thread where people bitch about metro because they used it for 5 minutes and didn't immediately like it
huh, I dont see that option...
Its in Dreamspark. Granted I guess that depends on what type of account you have and the school you go to. Mine has 2 keys for Win8 retail.
huh, I dont see that option...
it's uni specific (US)
it's uni specific (US)
Ah, seems like I have every option besides that one, oh well
Pretty much the sports game approach?
This is why I'm waiting another ten years or so before I buy my first Madden game.
What's so baffling about it? Metro applications run in their own little "sandbox" like environment, where a desktop application can't interact with them, and they can't interact in return. Desktop applications just run like they always have. There's nothing particularly confusing about this.
It's stupid and completely illogical to do that though.
It's stupid and completely illogical to do that though.
From a security standpoint, no it isn't. Android, iOS and such do it as well.
This is why I will be using Windows 8.
This is why I will be using Windows 8.
Because they got rid of the old Task Manager? I will admit, the new one is a lot more informative, or at least presents information in a much better way.

Then when SP2 hit, they added Me between 2000 and XP to keep the pattern going. Then as things unfolded they had to change their minds about 95, 98 and 2000 to keep the pattern. MUST KEEP THE PATTERN!

I'm just gonna wait for Windows 9 and hope they make a desktop OS and not a tablet OS
I'm just gonna wait for Windows 9 and hope they make a desktop OS and not a tablet OS
why do people think it will be different? you guys do realize Metro is here to stay forever right? It's a universal UI for all MS products, even for xbox and their freaking logo, you aren't gonna get what you want guys, it's over, it's not going away
why do people think it will be different? you guys do realize Metro is here to stay forever right?
I'm just gonna wait for Windows 9 and hope they make a desktop OS and not a tablet OS
I hihgly doubt Microsoft is just going to 180 their decision about the new start menu. They'll probably listen to feedback on how to improve it so more people are happy (not "omg its turrible, 7 start menu plx"), but I can't realistically see them removing the whole start screen and everything attached to it just after one version.
Metro is probably great if you're using Windows 8 on a tablet, not at all if you're on a desktop
Metro is probably great if you're using Windows 8 on a tablet, not at all if you're on a desktop
It depends on what you use your computer for. For the average user I don't see any problem with it other than getting used to it, though for someone like a programmer/developer, administrator of some sort the Metro doesn't really cut it in the multi-tasking area.
Metro isn't designed around keyboard/mouse It's not that Metro outright sucks, it's that they purposefully removed the start menu entirely to strongarm everyone into using Metro [editline]31st October 2012[/editline] no problem with including a redundant feature when you can easily make it optional
Yet the spent many months listening to feedback on how to make it better with keyboard and mouse. It was shit in the early previews, but isn't bad now after some changes they made.
Posting from windows 8 now, its great!
