Hell, I would be hard pressed to say 95 was shit. It had its issues, but it basically pioneered the basic UI model and conventions Windows has used up until now. Except for the old start menu, its still used in 8.

I remember the early days of XP when that "pattern" originated. It was inverted back then.
Then when SP2 hit, they added Me between 2000 and XP to keep the pattern going.
Then as things unfolded they had to change their minds about 95, 98 and 2000 to keep the pattern.

I find it funny that some people tend to forget about the existence of Windows 1, 2, and 3. Or NT 3 and 4. But I guess it gets to complex for them then.

I hihgly doubt Microsoft is just going to 180 their decision about the new start menu. They'll probably listen to feedback on how to improve it so more people are happy (not "omg its turrible, 7 start menu plx"), but I can't realistically see them removing the whole start screen and everything attached to it just after one version.
Metro is probably great if you're using Windows 8 on a tablet, not at all if you're on a desktop

It depends on what you use your computer for. For the average user I don't see any problem with it other than getting used to it, though for someone like a programmer/developer, administrator of some sort the Metro doesn't really cut it in the multi-tasking area.

Yet the spent many months listening to feedback on how to make it better with keyboard and mouse. It was shit in the early previews, but isn't bad now after some changes they made.
