Steam alone is a train wreck.
Even on a 4 core, 2 GPU and 8GB system; the fucker still makes my Win7 load like shit.
Postpones my start up by atleast 5 minutes.
You should have as few programs running on startup as possible. Your computer will start a lot faster if you do that.
Why is my steam constantly slow and freezing up.
Cause you're poor.
I would like Valve more if they got a new goddamn engine. The Source engine is outdated and updating it is just putting sprinkles on a shit sandwich. It'll taste better but you can still see the ugly bastard.

Please, it takes ages for them to make a game, imagine how long it will take to make a new engine.

Episode 2 graphics updates were nice enough for the time I suppose. It may not be the prettiest engine but graphics aren't everything. If anything needs to be done for valve it's about the management not the developers. The games are amazing, it's just the people running the company that are retarded.
agreed XBL fucking sucks :(
Also, XBL is great for the simple functions such as: communicating with friends, joining games friends are in, things like that. The thing I'm not a fan of is all the avatar BS, the DLC content costing a custom currency guaranteed to waste your money, and the online content manager for parental system occasionally fucking up. It was really annoying when I was ACTUALLY 17 that it was denying me 17+ game demos for some reason.
I don't know about the rest of you, but when I'm downloading off steam it usually goes at 2 mb per second, I can have a full retail game in under 20 minutes. What's not to like?
That's faster than going to the store.
:science:
I'd leave xbox live if it wasn't for the fact that all of my friends play it. It really does suck. It's overpriced, terrible support, glitchy, and full of 12 year olds screaming about how they pwnd me.
On LIVE you have everyone screaming into their headsets about how they no-scoped you.
On PSN no one talks ever.

its because xbox's come with a headset
They ban people permanently when their accounts are hacked
Sorry but no. The worst that could happen to you is that the guy to who you gave your password (yeah, you don't get 'hacked') cheated on your account and vacbanned you, and that's just on a single engine. I lost my account once, and I got it back two days laters.
Xbox live is OK if you don't have a computer that is able to play games or the know how to acquire one.
:foxnews: Valve to start releasing Wii Exclusives, other consoles suck :foxnews:

I don't know why but, Half Life wouldn't feel the same if it used another engine.
went to ecksbocks live for like... a year...
but all the fucking 9-14 year old annoying kids got pretty annoying, so I got a PC and found steam. And everything was better after that :niggly:
yeah xbox live is a train wreck...
more of a passenger train wreck with tons of angry raging teenagers with mics and a xbox...
I own a xbox 360 myself, but I don't get that shitty gold subscription... Because its just a buncha raging kiddos.
in short: fuck consoles go PC woo

Have you not seen what they've done with Portal 2?
Source hasn't looked better since... Well the first trailers for HL2 were shown.

My computer is far worse than yours, yet my steam never takes longer than 20s to start.
running w7 btw
Steam for me takes about 8 seconds to open, and I also have worse specs than Simmons.
Somebody has 30 startup programs and are blaming Steam for the delay each one throws in.
Gabe Newell said it, MUST BE TRUE.
Gabe Newell said it, MUST BE TRUE.
Well in this case, it is. Microsoft's lack of belief in free updates is only hurtful to consumers and developers alike.
I don't know why but, Half Life wouldn't feel the same if it used another engine.
It worked for hl1>hl2
While the portal2 engine update looks great, in the end it's still old and buggy source.
I know valve could make a great engine if they tried.
When will people learn. If you're going to run a mega corporation that thrives on getting customers bucks in your pocket, you got to think about the customers and not your pockets
Really? We were so close to Episode 3.
Lies.
It's pretty cheap though, 50 dollars isn't alot.
That it a lot to play to enjoy a online portion of a game you already brought when PC owners get to play for free. Not including the points this articles mentions about no free updates or add on content. First charging you play a game you brought then for the addon content that ripes you of even more. Also how they do the point system you have buy more points then you need. So they can ripe you off even more.
I love playing my xbox but I never once brought any downloadable content.
I am hoping Red Dead Redemption and Alan wake releases a new version with all they downloadable content included and I buy that.

Talking out your fucking ass.
A few things would need to be done to source and it'd be nearly as good as any other engine. I just wish they'd stop adding new shaders, and focus on allowing bigger map sizes and optimizing their compile program. Then they can start adding gimmicks.
gabe is badass
I mean.. look at him. He's one tough son of a bitch
Gabe newell is kind of a dumbass when it comes to consoles. I respect him and love Valve but seriously he really needs to shut up with consoles.
"Yeah 360 allows us to get content to everyone and is a great service. Fuck the ps3, it's a trainwreck and one of the most complicated machines out there and we simply don't want to fuck with it. Enjoy you're 360 exclusives everyone!"
-Portal 2 announcement
"Yeah Ps3 is the best system and will have the best, everything about the Ps3 is great and it has the best service, but oh man that 360, total trainwreck, who would ever enjoy that"
Dude can't make up his mind at all
Gabe didn't like the fact that ported games on PS3 always have to be dumbed down and still ran like a piece of crap. Valve develops their games on PC and usually port to the Xbox 360 since the coding is incredibly similar. However, you can tell that Gabe was getting annoyed by MS forcing them to charge for their updates. Then Sony comes along and says, "We'll let you integrate Steam into the PS3 so you can do whatever you like." I guess Valve is learning about the PS3's hardware to make sure they can either port it or rebuild Portal 2 around the PS3's hardware so the graphics and framerate don't take a hit. Plus with the use of Steam they can put out bug fixes, performance issue fixes, content, etc whenever they want.
