My friend Jackald came up with an idea. This wrangler encourages spies. When's the one time an entrenched engie has to switch weapons? To deal with a spy. If the sentry's disabled it's easier to take down. a front on attack is a lot harder with that shield and the extra fire rate, but a sneaky spy coming up and backstabbing the engie will now be viable, since the sentry won't instantly turn around and kill the spy.
That kind of balances it out, in my opinion. It means the engie doesn't become an indestructable slaughter machine.
holy shit, my riuter blows up and i return to find THIS
I knew this was coming :D
This is good because the Engie in question is more vulnerable to spies - I assume he can't move while operating the sentry, and if you're a good spy you will either be able to sap the sentry or get behind the engineer.

Also, since the sentry is offlined for a few moments when he switches weapons, that itself provides a window to sap and/or distract the engineer himself.

Also snipers will have fun popping off stationary engineers.
Yeah, I'm not sure how this is going to make it easier (what i expected from the update) for engineers.
The idea of updates isn't to make classes easier to play, it's to provide alternative play styles for that character.

Just want to say I called it. Sort of. There are a few key differences but for the most part, called it.
There is one problem for the supposed easier stab-n-sap strategy.
If the sentry goes back into automatic mode when the engie dies, who's to say it won't still kill the spy?
They should've posted more info on how it actually works IE LoS or if it HAS to be controlled if you have the wrangler equipped. If that is the case, the pistol becomes useless.
Finally you can defend sentries while you're away from them.
I hope it means that the sentry is quiet until you turn.

3 seconds disablement when wrangler turns off.
So even when you die it gives the spy more time?

Manual control of sentries has been suggested constantly since day one, who cares if you're one of the 100s of guys who tried to suggest it.
