Research discovers it is possible to turn CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) in to Ethanol

how much do we need to make solar powered that will reverse co2 emissions?

but the bubbles in beer...

That could actually be a revolutionary idea, I hope it's feasible.

Well, there are downsides. Less fuel economy compared to the same amount of gasoline, terrible cold starting ability (would be an issue up there in Finland), some engines (mostly older) don't like it, and I believe it still has emissions. Cleaner than gas, but not the alternative fuel we really need.

IIRC most gas these days has ethanol mixed in already, it's just not 100% ethanol

Unless the alternative fuel we need appears tomorrow, probably best to move forward with this technology right now.
Sometimes you have to settle for "better" when "best" isn't an option.

Yes, there's the very common E10, which as the name suggests, is roughly 10% ethanol, blended with gas. Then there's the hard to find E85, which is just a subsidizing of corn growers in my opinion. E85 is 85% is 85% Ethanol, but something like 20-30% less fuel efficient, but at least is cleaner, and similar in costs (I think it costs more, can't recall).

Well, I keep saying that Audi has been working with Global Bioenergies to try and develop a synthetic fuel that works very similar to gasoline. It basically is an aleady existing additive in our gas, and they are trying work it in to a fuel source of it's own. It's suppose to be much cleaner, and very renewable, no oil resources involved. Similar project is simultaneously happening to work out a solution for Diesel, although through a different company.
But, very little info has come out, all the companies have been fairly tight lipped. But, I did at least find this update from GBE on their youtube channel:

They are out of the laboratory and in to the production phase, really demoing how the concept will work in a real world setting. But that was in May. So again, who knows how much progress has been made since then.
There's also hemp oil, but we all know with the current bs restrictions on all things cannabis, it's very hard for engineers to make progress with making that viable. Best info I came across was this entrepreneur from Florida. He modified a Miata to have hemp body panels, and run off of hemp oil. How close that engine was to conventional ICEs, not sure. He was trying to emulate one of Henry Ford's early ideas.
Still, if ethanol can be produced in a much more environmentally friendly was like this, then it's still a helping hand. I kind of doubt we'll get to the point of running ICE's off pure ethanol though. Seems like it's just not versatile enough.

There's lots of places where they sell RE85 over here. And yes you'll use more fuel but RE85 is about $4/gallon while normal petrol is about $6/gallon

We're already making ethanol from biodegradable waste tho
The amount of ethanol you get out is probably going to be roughly equivalent to the quantity of electricity you put into the process, so certainly not free fuel. But, could be a decent way to clean up the atmosphere a bit while making a useful chemical in the process. Granted, if you burn it that co2 is going straight back into the atmosphere.
It could provide a great non-volatile storage possibility for the electric grid.
So if it could extract co2 from my car engine to a methanol injection kit for performance...
Let's set this shit up on Venus and have an off-world Ethanol station
"How do we save our beautiful planet from destruction?!"
"Gentlemen. We shall drink until she's no longer hot."
*applause*
and then we convert all the co2 into alcohol so we dont just drink our livers and ourselves to death but the plants and hence the entire earth too
rip earth, killed by alcohol poisoning :v:
Suck it, ethanol deniers. Midwest fuel #1.
[sp]This will tank my state's ethanol industry if it becomes mainstream and cheap.[/sp]
