Man at this rate Left 4 Dead 3 won't even have Boomers anymore :vomit:
Um, excuse me? I'm from the middle-east and having enemies that explode is deeply triggering. Exploding is something only we are allowed to do.
People get upset when some sort of content they enjoyed that was previously in a game is taken out, and get even more upset when reasons for said removal are inadvertently calling the players who enjoyed said feature childish and immature (or sexist, racist, or what have you depending on the game/content) and saying they want to avoid offending someone, which implies said content is inherently offensive and is wrong for existing. "I thought we'd matured beyond that." + "I didn't want to have a laugh at someone's expense," = (Doughnut Drake is immature and wrong. It should not exist). Ironically by saying these two sentences you offended gamers by saying something they like is wrong, which people will unfortunately take as an attack on them for liking it. People hate cut content. Look at people complaining about Fallout 4 cut content, or hell all the way back with HL2 and the removal of the Hydra, Manhack arcade, Borealis, etc. People will always complain if something they like is removed, but people tend to get very angry when the reasons for said removal imply that people who liked it are wrong for liking it. I guarantee if Naughty Dog had said nothing, and then when players got the game they realized Doughnut Drake was gone, players would be upset but not nearly as upset as now.
Demanding a developer keep something in a game is just as bad as demanding they remove it
that 100% isn't true if they removed it because they were worried about reactions in this instance, ND have made pretty clear that they feel they've matured, and so they didn't want it in the game - which is fair enough, their vision. [editline]6th April 2016[/editline]
It's not to protect anyone from how I read it. It's like growing out of jokes you told as a kid.
the very, VERY first quote from the interview is this "I didn't want to have a laugh at someone's expense," Neil Druckmann if by protect people you mean protect employees, sure - that's not what he implied but the quote above pretty much states that they removed it because they didn't want to insult people - which is far FAR less defensible than maturity
just because you may want them to insult people doesn't mean they want to.
So insulting the cultures and citizenry thereof as cardboard ding! platinum trophy get! villains is totes fine though, right? This move is contextually one of the most tone deaf things I've heard working in the industry. Here's a thought: Ask the damn fans. I mean holy shit what an amazing concept, asking the people fronting the repatriation of your milestones whether or not it adds contextual value to the product.
Guns offend me, replace the guns with banana's please.
whatever happened to us having more diverse game protagonists
just because you may want them to insult people doesn't mean they want to.
yup that's definitely what i suggested what an incredibly, ironically, insulting post [editline]6th April 2016[/editline] point to where i suggested that i want them to insult people - hit me up with that sick legendary geel9 logic
After having "the whole thing modeled and in there," the developers at Naughty Dog decided they "weren't comfortable having it in [their] game."
Despite all the kerfuffle with Blizzard, and gamers demanding that a developer be allowed to follow their own creative vision without kowtowing to public feedback, there sure are a lot of gamers trying to tell Naughty Dog what they should put in their game. IMO if they don't feel it's appropriate, that's their call, and it's not the same as being forced to cut content to avoid backlash.
There is no joke other than him being fat, and that isn't really a joke unless you make it one in your head. All the mode is is him.... but fat. You take it as an (offensive, apparently) joke because you think that the concept of a fat person moving like that is ridiculous. Because it is. Because obese people cannot do things that drake does.
Oh c'mon say what you want about the removal but he was clearly added in as a joke, don't pull the "it's only a *thing* because you see it as a *thing*" bullshit.
If they're really removing it "because they don't think it's funny anymore" then why bother announcing it at all? Just leave him out and don't say anything? [editline]6th April 2016[/editline]
IIRC he wasn't in Uncharted 3 either. edit: wait nvm I'm fucking blind and didn't see the video in the OP. Looks like they added him for the PS4 remaster.
He was in multiplayer on ps3.
If they're really removing it "because they don't think it's funny anymore" then why bother announcing it at all? wait what. How is this offensive, for this to be offensive you have to first see your self in the character meaning if you see your self in a fat character just because they're fat and then you get offended I think you have a problem in admitting to your self you're fat. If your getting offended at the fact he's called donut Drake, then you're getting offended about donuts but then again if you're really getting offended you must be a donut, round with a hole in the middle.

But there is a right and a wrong way to justify it. It's not unfair to expect someone to be able to justify their actions with a well-reasoned argument. This is not one of those times.

can we replace it with a literal doughnut drake? like, with a huge hole in the middle filled with jam.
can we replace it with a literal doughnut drake? like, with a huge hole in the middle filled with jam.
No you'll offend any doughkin

There's a bit in the beginning of Uncharted 2 where I used the doughnut Drake skin for kicks (well, my brother asked me to.) I was jumping from one roof to another following Flynn, and it was the section where Drake catches hold of the gutter which starts to break. Flynn catches him and goes "You've put on weight, mate! No more doughnuts for you." It wasn't planned, and it was the best thing ever. :v: So regardless of intent, I'm sad for it's exclusion here. It was just a silly little extra for goodness sake.
