To be honest Athletes get in easier because a University isn't just academic, it's also athletic. I don't know whether it's right or wrong in my opinion.
Donors, children of former students, and all that bullshit fucking piss me off just as much as the fact that minorities get a bump just because of their race. I don't think someone should get into College unless they deserve it, no free bumps because your daddy used to be a student.
Also @ Chippay, there is nothing preventing any minority from college at this point besides their grades, and their will to get in. Who cares whether they have the money or not? Have you heard of Financial Aid, Scholarships and Student Loans? That's all money that you pay back(if you even have to pay it back, a lot you don't) after you're out of College and finding a job in your trade.

The purpose of athletics is essentially to promote the image of the university. "Diversity" guidelines are pretty much the same thing, as many universities want to be seen as contributing to widespread social change. Take from that what you will.

That's a good point, but athletes actually have to do a shitload of work to get in, and even if someone is in with an Academic Scholarship then they still have to keep their grades up a bit or they will get kicked out.
Why should an entire race be given a free push anyways? Didn't Civil Rights fight for no one getting free bumps, and everyone to be judged on their merits alone?

Don't ignore racism, but at the same time you don't keep it going by offering minority benefits. That actually lowers the view of minorities as a whole to a lot of people. They are seen as inferior and they [b]need[/b] a push otherwise they don't have the ability to do anything themselves. That's a climate that's being created by programs that are supposed to help end racism.
Instead of giving Minorities direct benefits through special programs, why not increase public school funding, especially in areas with high minority populations? Increase public awareness of College and the programs that help lower class kids get into College. Work on getting more Police in the really crime-stricken areas, the places where kids(not just black or mexican either) get jumped into gangs(that traps you for life).
