How is it not discriminatory and racist to give benefits to a certain group of people based on race?

because people of those race are on average less able to afford higher education.
a black family in the south that is barely surviving doesn't have the same opportunities and resources to devote to schooling as a middle class white family. there are of course exceptions to this, and there are many prosperous minority families and several poor white ones.
this goes on averages, there are simply more minorities below the poverty line than the white class, and there are many socio-economic factors that contribute to this.
keep in mind communities of mostly minorities have lower per capita incomes than majority white communities. this is especially true in communities where minorities have historically been settled. one of the most poignant of these being native reservations, especially in the west.

Don't tell me about Native American Reservations being poor, I literally live 10 minutes from 2 different ones. I know that it is poor, and it can be a shitty place to live.
The question isn't about money though. You don't need a lot of money to go to College, it's all about applying for as many grants, scholarships, and as much financial aid as possible.
My family is below the poverty line as well and we were able to send my sister to college. It's not easy, by far, but it's possible and anyone can do it if they do it right.
So why should someone be able to get into college easier than me because of their race, even though I would say I'm around on par with a lot of minority families as far as money is concerned?
Why not, instead of giving minorities benefits, you make it easier for low income families to send kids to college all across the board? Give them more programs that give out free money for college if you fall into a certain income bracket. Try and spread awareness that there are these programs, so more people can take advantage of them and get a higher education.

Yea, it should be level and the government should act to keep it level, not stack it towards a group of people based on their race. I'm all for keeping discrimination out, but the government shouldn't endorse discrimination of any sort, because like I just said that creates resentment. In the long run it can cause more harm than good for the minorities they were trying to help.
