Maybe if you would actually tell me whats so special about it instead of resorting to petty insults and similar bullshit.
It says right goddamn there it's a trackpad and we have people going IT'S NOT A TRACKPAD GOSH
We are but you are purposefully ignoring ALL of it so you can shit on people for "lol they think cuz valve = great"
Are you borderline illiterate and can only read certain forum posts or are you just messing with us because this is ridiculous.

The trackpads can be re-mapped to behave differently, they can behave like a regular controller (which suck ass for FPS input) or they can behave like a mouse where the movement is absolute rather than controlling velocity.
It's not a laptop.
And? Doesn't change the fact that out of the two preferred ways we have available to control games, valve chose track pads.
You know, the things that no one in their right mind would ever choose.
Ever.
Again with the "it's ok valve knows what they're doing"
I'm not seeing why the trackpads are going to work.
Okay, so no company who has experts in a field knows what they're doing, so what the fuck is anyone doing making anything
No one's saying it isn't a trackpad.
They're saying it's not the same kind of trackpad.
Are you so mad you literally aren't reading what anyone says?
"not the same kind"
Dude. It's a trackpad. You swish and swipe your finger on it.
Why. Is. This. Trackpad. So. Special.
Okay, so no company who has experts in a field knows what they're doing, so what the fuck is anyone doing making anything
Flawless logic, truly.

Because you're thinking about how a laptop trackpad works, which is of course not all that great.
And? Doesn't change the fact that out of the two preferred ways we have available to control games, valve chose track pads.

oh so they're fucking morons and you're no doubt smarter than them entirely
or maybe they know something we don't? what's more likely when they have experts in these fields? Or are you an expert?
Honestly, I have and i'm not seeing fucking anything beyond marketing buzzwords like "super-precise haptic feedback" and "linear resonant actuators."
They aren't buzzwords, they're technical terms. He posted the wrong snippet for the trackpads anyways -- that just covers the feedback designed to make it feel more physical/responsive (and replace the traditional rumble vibration).
Simulated analog sticks don't work. Go play a shooter or a racing game on a phone or laptop and you should see immediately why.
You can't compare capacitive screens and pointer-designed track pads to what Valve's gamepad has. Firstly because neither of those were designed to simulate analog sticks, only utilized to try and do so. Maybe normal track pads are similar just by texture, but as some dell laptops have proven, track pads can have many textures. So really, we don't know the accuracy or feel of it. Neither do you.

Because they havent spent time and money making this work for a controller and even claim that its really close to a mouse.
Again, did you read ANYTHING from this page?
Really want to get my hands on one of these
We are but you are purposefully ignoring ALL of it so you can shit on people for "lol they think cuz valve = great"

Baby I won't ignore why it's so special.
Oh wait, nobody is telling me. Only shit i'm getting is "valve knows what they're doing ok ok good"
I reckon this is great.
If you thought it was going to be HL3, you're a fuckin' idiot.
Baby I won't ignore why it's so special.

Seriously.

I DON'T KNOW BUT I'LL GIVE IT A CHANCE BEFORE I CLAIM TO KNOW BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE
Fuck, you're claiming I'm lacking some sort of logic here, but you're saying you know better than experts. I'm just going to say I don't know better than them, but i'm going to give them the benefit of a doubt over some screaming asshole who can't stop swearing or caps locking at people, and who can't make a good argument himself beyond "WHY IS IT SPECIAL WORDS THAT PEOPLE USE TO DESCRIBE ARE MEANINGLESSSSSS"

because whatever anyone says is pr bullshit so what can anyone say to you oh mr expert
Everyone is telling you.

"everyone is telling me" to read the page and go away and valve does no wrong. Fucking please.
Because you're thinking about how a laptop trackpad works, which is of course not all that great.
And lets see whats different about these:
super-precise haptic feedback, employing dual linear resonant actuators. These small, strong, weighted electro-magnets are attached to each of the dual trackpads.
Buzzwords. Also magnets.
Ok.
"everyone is telling me" to read the page and go away and valve does no wrong. Fucking please.
Nobody is saying that at all you simpleton.
In addition, games like first-person shooters that are designed around precise aiming within a large visual field now benefit from the trackpads’ high resolution and absolute position control.
Here, here's ANOTHER thing from the page that you didnt read.
Would you please grow some brain cells and be competent for a second?
"everyone is telling me" to read the page and go away and valve does no wrong. Fucking please.
I've already told you. If you don't understand the difference between this and a regular laptop trackpad or a pair of joysticks then I can't help you.
And lets see whats different about these:
Buzzwords. Also magnets.
Ok.
"They're saying things i dont understand! OBVIOUS MARKETING PLOY!"
"everyone is telling me" to read the page and go away and valve does no wrong. Fucking please.
No one is saying that.
People are more likely going to trust a company that hired experts in a field, and worked with them and technology to get it to a place they think is good enough to show us for feedback, than some ragey asshole who thinks he knows better than anyone ever.
I for am fucking tired of normal controllers. I'm excited to see if something new can be made. Why not give it a shot?
Oh cause new things are fucking stupid and if it uses an old technology in a new way, it's fucking stupid! And you know better than valve.
I don't get why you're appeal to yourself as an authority on technology is any better than us saying valve probably knows what the fuck they're doing
Nobody is saying that at all you simpleton.
Here, here's ANOTHER thing from the page that you didnt read.

They're saying the trackpad is high res and "absolute position control"
Doesn't change that it's a trackpad buddy.
I'll probably get this, I think it'll be great. However, I'm always going to use the keyboard and mouse on FPS games.
I've already told you. If you don't understand the difference between this and a regular laptop trackpad or a pair of joysticks then I can't help you.
K
And lets see whats different about these:

Ok.
haptic feedback
not a buzzword
Haptic feeback is an awesome effect that good touchscreens have been trying to employ for a while now that entirely changes how they feel at work.
Don't break what's already fine and dandy and call it "innovation"
I know better that trackpads are absolutely terrible for games.
They're saying the trackpad is high res and "absolute position control"
Doesn't change that it's a trackpad buddy.
Dude.
You're just hating it because its a track pad.
You're not listening to anything being said about said track pad other than "track pad"
What are you doing.
And lets see whats different about these:
Buzzwords. Also magnets.
Ok.
That is a tiny fraction of the page, which for the record means that the trackpads can respond to your input unlike a laptop trackpad can. Look at the Portal 2 example.

The right trackpad is mapped to absolute motion (like a mouse), that coupled with the fact that you're holding it in a completely different way to a laptop (or at least I hope so) should mean that it's nothing like a laptop beyond the technology they use to figure out where you're touching it.
They're saying the trackpad is high res and "absolute position control"
Doesn't change that it's a trackpad buddy.
Okay, so let's go with the fallacy you're presenting here.
A monitor is just a monitor, it doesn't matter if it's a 640x420, it's as good as a 1920x1080
a touchscreen is good at any size and pixel density, it's just a touchscreen
Don't break what's already fine and dandy and call it "innovation"
I know better that trackpads are absolutely terrible for games.
Because this is just a laptop trackpad, obviously.
Dude, read http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamController/
I know better that trackpads are absolutely terrible for games.
You don't seem to understand, so lets start with why do you think track pads are terrible for games?
