Dude.
You're just hating it because its a track pad.
You're not listening to anything being said about said track pad other than "track pad"
What are you doing.
Have you ever played a game on a track pad?
I'm going off experience. There is no precision needed to play games on a trackpad, period. It's an absolutely terrible idea to base both movement and aiming off a trackpad. It'll handle something like a phone shooter. Terribly.
Don't break what's already fine and dandy and call it "innovation"
I know better that trackpads are absolutely terrible for games.
oh sorry bro
your ego was in the way your expertise at first and now I see, you're correct
I'm disappointed that they just called it "steam controller." I was hoping for something new to fit the plumbing theme

and i'm going off the pretty apparent fact that one track pad is not equivalent to all track pads.

Okay.
Let me make it clear for you:
THIS ISNT A LAPTOP TRACK PAD, ITS NOTHING LIKE IT, STOP THINKING THAT IT IS, YOU'RE COMPLETELY WRONG.
Do you understand this any better than before?
and i'm going off the pretty apparent fact that one track pad is not equivalent to all track pads.
Because valve trackpads are special track pads that will magically work because valve made them.
Right?
Okay.

Not really, no.

All track pads are the same.
All speakers are the same.
All microphones are the same.
All TV's are the same.
All Radio's are the same.
All Cars are the same.

It's nothing like a track pad and yet it works the same fucking way: You slide your fingers around and something might happen.

What is "bad" about trackpads? They give you the exact same input scheme as a mouse, but this is competing against other controllers, which have worse input schemes.

Chill out, he isn't listening at all.
Legolover, are you just trolling here? I'm not making any decisions about the controller until I see more about it one way or the other, but you're really not doing anything to argue your side apart from pointing out that Valve aren't the saviors of mankind over and over again.

Track pads are the same because of how they are all shit at performing precise actions in ga-WAIT IT'S A VALVE TRACKPAD THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

Yes?
How does that mean the internal mechanisms are the same?
How does that mean ANYTHING is the same?
It's nothing like a track pad and yet it works the same fucking way: You slide your fingers around and something might happen.
The technical method of determining where the finger is making contact is the same -- the behavior is not. Traditionally, movement would move the mouse cursor. Here, holding your finger in one position is the same as if you held the analog stick that way.

so you are actually so arrogant to suggest people who've been making PC fps games for years wouldn't understand what needs to be changed about typical track pads in order to work FOR FPS GAMES?

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/105497-piezoelectrics-bring-tactile-haptic-feedback-to-touchscreens
this is an example of haptic feedback and tactile forces being created for simple devices. if you really think Valve is too stupid to be able to make their own trackpads, or work with a producer of track pads to get what they want, then okay, that's on you.
but i'm not that dumb to think i'm smarter than a billionaire company right now.
For gods sake stop being so dense and just read the page.
Bollocks mate
It's absolute motion, that's the same as a mouse. Like I said previously the input is up to the user to chose - they could just as easily behave like regular joysticks at which point you're going to get the same awkward input for FPS games as a regular controller.
Looks like a Madcatz reject.

I used to play counter strike on a track perfectly fine. I think what ever laptop you had just had a shitty track pad.

Again with the JUST READ IT

Back to the "valve knows what they're doing" argument. I've only seen this like a billion times.
I don't trust them to make a trackpad controller. I don't trust anyone to make a trackpad controller, because trackpad controllers straight up won't work with any sort of precision or efficiency. I think i've only said this a million times, but fuck me it's valve making it so it'll be OK.
I used to play counter strike on a track perfectly fine. I think what ever laptop you had just had a shitty track pad.
In my history of using various track pads none of them ever hit the levels of quality analog/mice have. You'll get your shit kicked in by a controller/mouse every time.
Speakers are the same in how they play audio

Wrong. There are several different methods of display audio through speakers as of today and as many to capture it, mics are a varied technology
TVs are the same in how they display video
wrong, there are many methods for us to display images on a screen, and the mediums in which we do it ARE important.
See speakers for radio
Radios are different based on the spectrums they pick up as not all radio devices can receive broader spectrums
Cars are in the same in how they all are transportation devices
Wrong because cars vary in the method of creating the transportation.
Track pads are the same because of how they are all shit at performing precise actions in ga-WAIT IT'S A VALVE TRACKPAD THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING
OH WAIT SOMEONE TRIED TO CREATE SOMETHING DIFFERENT BUT I'M SURE EVERYTHING IS THE SAME AS EVER BEFORE
If not liking a garbage valve product is trolling then fuck me then.
I didn't say a thing about you disliking it, you're entitled to your opinion. What I did ask about was why you're sitting here and bitching at people for having a little faith in a group of people they trust while pretty much avoiding discussion of the technical aspects of the product at hand.
Again with the JUST READ IT

I don't think it's the track pad's fault if you're telling me you do better with a controller.
