they are showing it off and asking for feedback, so, you know, they kind of are waiting to hear what we're saying. They've said repeatedly this would be an open source controller available for hacking.
the fuck is the problem with having some faith in a new technology. no one is saying this is jesus level technology.
Not to mention that the 300 beta testers will tell them if it sucks and they'll work to change it entirely if need be

Faith in new tech is fine
Defending it to almost freakish fanboy levels though isn't.
no. I'm not distorting anything. Why are trackpads shit at games? Because they lack finesse, tactile feedback, and they are disorienting to use for aiming.
You are saying right now, NONE of those problems can ever, EVER be fixed. By anyone. Because you know better.
I'm saying I doubt valve will have the magical fix.
Faith in new tech is fine
Defending it to almost freakish fanboy levels though isn't.
Neither is jumping to conclusions like "Oh shit a trackpad! It's just another piece of shit", without getting proper feedback you can't draw any conclusions.
Faith in new tech is fine
Defending it to almost freakish fanboy levels though isn't.
you're attacking trackpads, and all trackpads that could ever exist like you have expertise in the matter. i'm questioning this over many pages as "rabidly" as you are insisting i'm wrong. so why are you acting like you're better than me with this "freakish fanboy" bullshit you're choosing to speal now.
the fuck is the problem with having some faith in a new technology.
There is no problem. I don't care if people are jizzing their pants over it or are getting pitchforks ready to burn valve at the stake. All I am saying is I am unconvinced, I think it looks ugly, and people are getting too blinded by the fact that valve is making to recognize the potential drawbacks that such a design can have.
no one is saying this is jesus level technology.
Yes. They are. Plenty people I know are making this out to be god-tier simply because Valve is producing it.
I'm saying I doubt valve will have the magical fix.
why do you doubt it?
If you click the center of the left track pad to jump then how do you jump forwards, or run and jump with just your thumb?
I'm saying I doubt valve will have the magical fix.
no that's not what you've been saying. Do I need to do a quote dump of the literal 10 times plus you've said "TRACKPADS ARE HORRIBLE FOR GAMES" in a manner that does not leave it open for ANYONE to ever fix it. Cause I will.
Faith in new tech is fine
Defending it to almost freakish fanboy levels though isn't.
To be fair, you're attacking it to freakish anti-fanboy levels.
You're the opposite end of the spectrum, but still overly extreme.

who is
If you click the center of the left track pad to jump then how do you jump forwards, or run and jump with just your thumb?
I imagine the whole trackpack is a button. So pressing it at the top would be a forward jump. Pressing it at the back is a backwards jump.
It's hard to judge how well an idea will work until you've tried it yourself, there are a lot of small details in these sorts of things that you simply cannot pick up on without actually using them
Maybe this is a complete fuckup, maybe it's a revolution, maybe it's just OK, who knows? You can't jump to any of those conclusions until at least one person outside of Valve has held it in their hands. Personally, I can't wait to see how well it works.
why do you doubt it?
Because I trust valve about as far as I can throw them. As a collective. AKA not at all. I'll judge products as they come out and what info i'm seeing on them, and from what i've seen, the steam controller is pretty not good.
no that's not what you've been saying. Do I need to do a quote dump of the literal 10 times plus you've said "TRACKPADS ARE HORRIBLE FOR GAMES" in a manner that does not leave it open for ANYONE to ever fix it. Cause I will.
Except they are though dude, jesus.
Except they are though dude, jesus.
Except they're not, jeez.
Except they're not, jeez.
OK
who is
Every single person in at my class. My brother. And I've already seen a number of posts claiming its a dream controller or some shit. I can't provide a detailed list of every human being that thinks that way but rest assured its true.

So you're not saying that valve lacks the magic touch
you are in fact saying that a technology can never be better in a field
okay, how do you know this
why do you doubt it?
Because Valve is not perfect.
I imagine the whole trackpack is a button. So pressing it at the top would be a forward jump. Pressing it at the back is a backwards jump.
Then how do you run? Right now it looks like to shift from running left to running right you have to slide your thumb around the outer edge of the ring, creating some rather awkward movement.
Every single person in at my class. My brother. And I've already seen a number of posts claiming its a dream controller or some shit. I can't provide a detailed list of every human being that thinks that way but rest assured its true.
and i see quite a number doubting the thing works without reason. i have my problems with it, but fuck if i'm not happy to see something besides another playstation or xbox controller with their analogue sticks.
Uh... why not?
Seriously? Why wouldn't they?
Bigger companies have made bigger flops. It wouldn't surprise me if this controller sucks dicks. Valve's not perfect, and to believe otherwise is fucking stupid.
Whens the last time Valve rushed out anything, especially something that was a "big flop and sucked dick"?
They're betting a lot on this Steam OS/SteamMachine/Steam Controller thing, I don't expect them to half-ass it. This isn't EA or Activision releasing some gimmick product at the last minute to sell more CoDs or Battlefields. This is Valve risking a huge amount of time and money in an attempt to change up/further the way people play PC games. They aren't going to make decisions lightly.
Have any of you naysayers actually bothered to read up on this? It seems like people are just jumping to one side or the other. "VALVE SO GEWD, GONA B GREAT" or "LOL U ALL R JUST SUKIN DAT VALV DIK LMAO VALVDRONS." If you all spent less time pulling shit out of your asses and more time reading up on the facts and what people say who have actually tried the device, you might make more compelling arguments than "why wouldn't they fuck it up?"
sounds like the same kind of pessimism surrounding the virtual reality field until like a year ago
Maybe this is a complete fuckup, maybe it's a revolution, maybe it's just OK, who knows? You can't jump to any of those conclusions until at least one person outside of Valve has held it in their hands.
Well, some have, like Dejobaan's Ichiro. Trouble is, they're all devs who make games which are better suited to M&K than controller. I remain hesitant until we see from like, Edmund McMillen or Naramura.
So you're not saying that valve lacks the magic touch
you are in fact saying that a technology can never be better in a field
okay, how do you know this
I'm saying that it could go either way. I also never said the italicized bit, but OK.
I'm making a pretty good guess though that valve doesn't have the revolutionary life changing breakthrough of touchpads for games though.
Then how do you run? Right now it looks like to shift from running left to running right you have to slide your thumb around the outer edge of the ring, creating some rather awkward movement.
where do you get that impression from? you click it in the direction. it's a massive mouse button that's sensitive, it has haptic feedback for the pressures you apply to it which also allows it to change textures.
Then how do you run? Right now it looks like to shift from running left to running right you have to slide your thumb around the outer edge of the ring, creating some rather awkward movement.
Just moving your finger to the other side should work
I'm saying that it could go either way. I also never said the italicized bit, but OK.

Wow, no, yes you did, you totally did.

No? you didn't?
So before when you said that so certainly, so matter of factly, you were just saying that your opinion is that way and that you don't actually have any clue
