I wonder if valve is going to give the controller a name. Steam Controller sounds kinda silly.
Steamroller.
Yeah they are kinda screwed either way. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Damned if they don't.
At least I haven't spent that much money on Steam apart from Half-lives, Orange Box etc., because they don't really deserve it all if they can't even finish their main franchise, which is the Half-life.
Oh I remember seeing this, I thought the trackpads were speakers and it was a music device.
It's look dumb as hell, but who knows it could be fun to use.
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but one of the Super Meat Boy devs tried the controller with the game and it worked pretty well.

Eh, maybe it wouldn't be totally terrible, but I really feel like it'd be more useful for me as a controller if that second track pad was just a set of face buttons.
So...
Wait, that's the front of the controller? The way the handles look it looks like it should be the fucking back. Who thought this was a good idea? This looks fucking awful. Have fun playing anything that isn't a shooter with this thing.
But of course because it's Valve that means it's good
it looks like it would perfectly fit the curavature of the palm, i think it looks really cosy in a way

They are obviously using a celestial body to house their servers.
No need to worry about overheating, and there will be a server for everyone, and no need to worry about connection problems.

You're not interacting with raised analog sticks anymore so I feel they had to flip the handles to give you a more comfortable feel with the trackpads
Knowing Valve they would have canceled this if they didn't genuinely think it's a good product.
They have disbanded several hardware developer branches before, haven't they?

The controller was a requirement to be worked on from day one. Luckily some of the manufacturing issues have been resolved to make the plastic pieces. but it doesn't mean the people holding the power at valve know anything about making hardware. Again I'm glad people like this controller and if people arn't happy then they should express to gabe newell they should hire more people to fill key positions.
No company, in their right fucking minds, would release a terrible product they know doesn't work when it would destroy their reputation.
The Xbox One?
The Xbox One?
They were really confident people would eat that shit up, but they didnt, and its too late to back out now.
The Xbox One?
I wouldnt consider the guys behind it in their right minds tho
I like it.
We're pathetic because we want a continuation to our favorite game, and instead we (actually not we at all, whoever valve is aiming to) got this?
I hate people who are REALLY fucking negative like you.
It's really pathetic to see such selfishness and negativity.
"oh, he got THIS shit instead?"
this is seriously pretty damn huge, like it or not.
and yeah hl3 I'm really excited for but chill your titties mate. If I was a dev shit like this would make me slow it down even more in fear of people bitching about how it doesn't have enough boobies in the game.

well you can't blame him
Valve keeps creating all this hype
In any case, I'm glad to see that someone finally designed my dream controller, now to see if its as good as I imagine

the only hype I see is from the fans. Valve is releasing new shit but they've said very very little about the game.
and yes I can blame him, even with creating hype there's no need for such negativity.

what hype has valve created themselves
I don't think valve has even mentioned or referenced half life 3/episode 3 in the past few years
I think Valve should make a video demo of the beta controller and SteamOS, all we have are pictures right now. But I guess we will have to wait till they get into the hands of the Beta participants and hope they share their insights. I think it will be pretty cool when we finally see one in action.

They put a controller as the icon for the big announcement so everyone thought it was going to be a game
But nope it was literally a controller
My dream controller but still

they literally said it was "STEAM" universe, nothing more
how can it be anything more than steam
in the end that's not their fault, pretty much.

this is what happens after 6 years of nothing people either stop caring or go nuts. also if and when is Valve most likely going to announce something.?
E3.?

When its ready to be announced.
Im guessing within a year or two.

When it's ready?
tf2 took 8-10 years to make.
most games take 2-5 years, or even significantly longer depending on who is making it, how simple it is, budget, how many are working on it, the experience, delays, etc.
Serious sam 1 was released in 2001, serious sam 3 released in 2010 (ss2 were made by different people though)
1998 for hl1, and hl2 was released in 2004
that and assuming source 2 is truly true, that's also a big reason.
I love how people go, well, its been 6 years since the last half-life, means another one will never happen, since nah, ignore the fact there is a new engine being made, and half-life is a flag ship game, so its going to be made for that engine, nah, a new half-life needs to come out every 2 years or its dead.

at this points they must be wating for Source 2(or what ever)

if I was making HL3/Ep3 I'd be a mixture of "Very fucking excited" and "Literally shitting my pants omg hl2 was game of the decade DONT YOU FUCK THIS UP!!!!!!"
assuming they are also the same way, they won't be rushing it period. It's clearly both a very fun and stressful game to make. Even when HL1 itself stands the test of time well, you have to compete with the idea of you're making it for the next generation.
I'm sure if you asked Gabe Newell, the only thing he has to say about Half-life 3 is the same old "N-no!"
With the current source engine hl3 will look like shit and that's what valve doesn't want. They want to do something that will blow away even the cryengine or frostbite maybe that's what they want to achieve with source 2.
