Like i said in the other thread. Valve wouldnt make something that doesnt work or is uncomfortable. Plus this is all beta stuff that there throwing around.
[t]http://cdn2.store.steampowered.com/public/images/promo/livingroom/rljKewyz3M/controller.jpg[/t] It looks like there should be an iPod docking station somewhere.
You know they're not going to release it until they milk the feeling of hope until it's dry. Let's be honest, the only reason why most people pay attention to what valve releases is because they think Half-Life 3 is going to be mentioned. They do such a good job at including the number 3 in most of their "announcements for announcements".
This. And whenever valve prepares to announce something all the journalists and gaming websites go: "Valve is going to announce something big!" because they know that people will think its going to be hl3. It has been going on for years and its starting to piss me off. Valve also probably made 3 announcements about this whole living room shit on purpose.
But why would they make that the default? It doesn't matter in the slightest I just thought it was funny.
Most people are right handed. Since you're using both hands it makes since for your dominant hand to be doing the main action.
It's the default on the 360 and PS3 controllers, though. You use left click to shoot with a mouse, and you use right trigger to shoot on a controller.
Oh, I've never played it on a console.
A gamepad with no tactile feedback sounds awful.
??
unless you can find a large enough team of people willing to work on what would be the most zealously overhyped game in the history of man, and be willing to take the flak when people are undoubtedly disappointed, there will not be a hl3 this, however, looks neat as hell and I'd try one
well it's definitely a unique controller
When I want to aim and move around I would prefer to feel a stick that I can move. The flatness of the two circular thingies don't look too good to me. However, it might just take some getting used to.
They aren't the sort of company to ignore negative feedback
Yet they completely ignore what pretty much everyone wants... [sp]games[/sp]
WHEN will controller designers realize that bop-it was THE greatest possible controller design of all time? Ergonomic? Hand-fitting? No thanks, I want literally bells and whistles.
Oh, I've never played it on a console.
Happens. It's done that way because you are generally looking around with the right analog stick, so it feels natural to use the right trigger.
right mouse left trigger
because for quite a few years primary fire on console games has been bound to the right trigger for the majority of games, on PC it's bound to left mouse
Unless I am missing something, where are the d-pads? How am I supposed to play games like COD or GTA without it. Unless its on the touch screen?
...... the circles are heptic feedback pads that function like a d-pad and a trackpad its nice to see valve has finally invented a way to play games without using joysticks. console developers haven't moved controlers forward in the last 10 years at all

Pfft, they changed 'Default Bindings' to Eric's Bindings, as if to say "YEAH YOU CAN REBIND THIS, DON'T MIND IT IF IT LOOKS A LITTLE FUNKY"
because for quite a few years primary fire on console games has been bound to the right trigger for the majority of games, on PC it's bound to left mouse
sounds like they left controls open though for re-binding
Yet they completely ignore what pretty much everyone wants... fucking games
They released one of their most popular games ever this year
It looks interesting but if I ever have to buy a new controller I'd rather buy an Xbone one. Unless this one is way cheaper but that would be surprising.
Every button and input zone has been placed based on frequency of use, precision required and ergonomic comfort. There are a total of sixteen buttons on the Steam Controller. Half of them are accessible to the player without requiring thumbs to be lifted from the trackpads, including two on the back.
My biggest issue with using a controller is being able to use all the buttons AND use both sticks (or pads, now) at the same time. I hate not being able to move, look, and interact at the same time, like you can with k + m. (although I will note that it's still hard to move right and interact [pressing E and D] at the same time) Aiming doesn't feel as nice with a controller but I feel it's easy to get used to, but not being able use the right stick and press A or B simultaneously really annoys me.

Unless I am blind, I don't see anything relating to a d-pad with the haptic feedback.
Valve is looking to redo the controller. Not make another copy of the xbox 360 one. They are looking to revolutionize the controller. I am sure this has been through tons of testing. It is not like they built and said "this'll do, and it looks strange so yeah!" I am sure it works and feels rather great.
I'd rather just put my keyboard & mouse on a dinner tray or something if I was gonna play in my living room.
What a major step-down compared to the controller patents [t]http://i.i.cbsi.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2012/03/03/steam_box_610x454.gif[/t] [t]http://blogs-images.forbes.com/erikkain/files/2012/12/valve-controller-patent-625x412-c.png[/t]
I would have to try it in person but I don't think I really want to
i love how you people dismiss a controller because its layout doesn't resemble the one that has been in our homes for the past decade.
I, for one, like the design of it. They have thought of everything, and it seems like they've put a lot of passion into it. I will definitely buy one once they're available.
Ookay, I think we always were like "Wow, that's stupid idea, Valve" first, but then everyone enjoys it. TF2 hats, L4D2, new steam layout... Everything turned like that
no [editline]27th September 2013[/editline] Anyway trackpad seems way better than your usual sticks, but like all of us I'd like to try it first. And really, how could it be worse?

One of the things they talked about was gaze tracking, which could allow you to look aroud without dedicating a thumb to the task.
I think you’ll see controllers coming from us that use a lot of biometric data. Maybe the motion stuff is just failure of imagination on our part, but we’re a lot more excited about biometrics as an input method. Your hands, and your wrist muscles, and your fingers are actually your highest bandwidth – so to try and talk to a game with your arms is essentially saying ‘oh we’re gonna stop using ethernet and go back to 300 baud dial-up.’ …Biometrics on the other hand is essentially adding more communication bandwidth between the game and the person playing it, especially in ways the player isn’t necessarily conscious of. Biometrics gives us more visibility. Also, gaze tracking. we think gaze tracking is gonna turn out to be super important.”
