if you're playing a fighting game with anything other than an arcade stick, you're doing it wrong.
Well of course. But if you dont have one, this could work well.
playing Sonic games with this controller looks like it would be a nightmare (atleast for me)
Wait, that's the front of the controller? The way the handles look it looks like it should be the fucking back. Who thought this was a good idea? This looks fucking awful. Have fun playing anything that isn't a shooter with this thing. But of course because it's Valve that means it's good
Yes lets just immediately dismiss it off of a render without having used it It's a valid concern but for me, I'd rather see how it actually feels in the hand before just assuming its going to be bad seeing as I have no actual experience with it
Racing games...hmm... Maybe, depends on how the trackpads are. RTS's i can imagine would work. For action games, it'd work fine, just map the controls to the 4 back buttons.
seriously, there is no way to know how this thing handles until there is a hands on (although i am skeptical about how well it will function) i am impressed that valve have taken such a leap to back this. it takes some seriously balls to try and innovate and i commend them for doing so.
Well of course. But if you dont have one, this could work well.
How? How on earth would this work well? The buttons are placed in the center of the controller. You need at the very least 6 buttons for your punches and kicks. If they're in the center like that, you're gonna be constantly taking your thumb off the movement pad to press it, which means have fun pulling off specific combinations.
wow, are you for real? hooooly shit
Dont knock it till you try it.
No thanks I gonna sitck with my xbox 360 controller.

I keep saying this, but for reals go play a shooter or a racer on a phone or a laptop. It just straight up doesn't work, especially not competitively. The only games I see even remotely working with this would be RTS games.
Well this is a disappointment. A wasn't even one of the guys expecting this to be half life 3, I knew it was going to be a controller and it looks like shit. Seriously, who in their right mind would ever pick a track pad over a mouse and keyboard, or thumb sticks? [editline]sadsa[/editline] Seriously, track pads. Blunder of the fucking century.
Let's not jump to conclusions. For all we know it could be the greatest feeling and most precise controller out there. Nobody here has ever even held it yet, let alone used it extensively enough to judge it worse than our existing options. I'll wait until I have one in my hands to deem it good or bad.

Looks interesting but I won't be giving up my KB/M combo for FPS games anytime soon.

Might be even better for racing games if what valve says is true, as they should offer more fidelity and might be on par to steering wheels.

Why are people sure they know more than Valve about trackpads?
Why are people sure they know more than Valve about trackpads?
Why are people so sure Valve has any clue on how to make hardware...?
Why are people so sure Valve has any clue on how to make hardware...?
Because they're announcing it, meaning they think it works.
Why are people so sure Valve has any clue on how to make hardware...?
Because they hired people specifically for hardware related projects!?!?
Because they're announcing it, meaning they think it works.
Plenty of companies announce hardware that they "think" works and it turns out to be disappointing. Seriously, I'd love to be proven wrong, but as far as I recall valve have never released any hardware - why is it that all of the fanboys assume their first attempt will be the second coming of christ...?
protoype was made with two ipod track pads attached to a psp
Why are people so sure Valve has any clue on how to make hardware...?
because they have the money to hire people who do? They are inaccurate and slow, and I even play FPS's on them quite well and feel this way, the second I switch to a PC. They lack some features. If a company wants to try and do something for the PC, and PC gaming, maybe this isn't a bad idea coming from the wrong company?
I'm glad we have so many industry experts in here to show us their extensive knowledge on why this will fail without ever using it, especially since the thing was just announced.
So these are still like analog sticks, just not physical. That should be huge for people like me who can't make subtle movements with physical sticks due to their pivoting nature. They even say they're high resolution track pads designed for exactly that, improving a PC gamer's experience with a controller. If you believe that the game pad is not ideal in some way, that is fine. We believe otherwise. The way I see it, this isn't some indie start-up trying to push their neat idea, this is Valve who has spent the last few years hiring engineers and developing this thing using their own plethora of cash and will spend another number of months continuing that as they get feedback from the prototype testers.
just like all of those industry experts that predicted the ouya was going to fail good thing it didnt right
How is that comparable at all, this is a well-established company with the resources to back up their claims. Ouya is a device that plays android games, this is something that will use Valve's own software to play actual games, and this is the controller that is one way to interact with it. Please, tell me how they are that similar that they can be used as a definitive comparison

[editline]27th September 2013[/editline] You know somethings fucked when the primary defense is "IT'S NOT RELEASED YETTTTT" or "VALVE DOES NO WROOOONG IT HAS TO BE GOOD"
