Should I buy a Ps3 now or wait a little while?
What I want to see now is OFW + CFW + Linux tripleboot. I need to start saving up money.
You could probably do it with a 500GB HDD You'd be strapped for any downloading space though [editline]24th October 2012[/editline] Gentoo/PPC runs on the PS3, right? If so, I know what I'll be doing over Halloween break.

This thread hurts my brain
A lot of people in this thread are behind, recently there's been a 4.25 CFW released and then the 4.30 came a few days after. Emulation was possible years ago along with Linux support and dual booting with the 3.55 CFW. Also after 3.55 they managed to get 3.55 Dev which opened up loads of stuff including getting onto PSN which older firmware.
A lot of people in this thread are behind, recently there's been a 4.25 CFW released
I'm intrigued by this.
I did heard you could run game servers from a Linux based PS3, is this true?
I did heard you could run game servers from a Linux based PS3, is this true?
If the game server code were open-source, or the binaries were somehow available for PPC, then yeah.
I did heard you could run game servers from a Linux based PS3, is this true?
As long as the server software runs on a PPC distro, there's no reason it wouldn't work.
What are good websites for this stuff? I haven't kept up with the scene since the last major kick off
I'm intrigued by this.
There's reports of random bricking with the 4.25 CFW so I wouldn't risk it yet unless you know how to restore nand backups.

I think they should work on making the console more brick-resistant first. Wii has a homebrew application called BootMii, which makes the Wii brick-resistant by installing itself to the low-level bootloader, allowing it to be run before the actual OS, making the console, in practice, 100% brick resistant while giving developers full access to the hardware. But then again, I don't know if it's possible with PS3's architecture.
Not only is there no 3DS cfw or flashcarts, they have yet to take any action against people using older flashcarts on their 3DS'.
3DS has a flashcart now http://www.gamekool.com/supercard-ds-two-scds2-for-nintendo-ds-ds-litedsi-3ds-p-340.html
Should I buy a Ps3 now or wait a little while?
If you want to be able to do this, buy now. I guarantee sony will fix this in their next batch of PS3s.
3DS has a flashcart now http://www.gamekool.com/supercard-ds-two-scds2-for-nintendo-ds-ds-litedsi-3ds-p-340.html

Q:Will the Dstwo play 3D games on 3ds? A:Currently, there are no cards can support 3d games. But as we all know, dstwo can be the best card that has powerful features.
Which means, it has no access to the 3DS. It's running in DS mode, you can just use it with your 3DS, which is nothing new.
Was about to sell my PS3, might keep it just to see what comes up.
See, I'd hack my PS3 if I could play PS2 games again. I have about 3 Ace Combat games waiting to be played.
Funny thing is this will increase sales of PS3's I don't see why sony would have any problems with it other then the corporate butt frustration from having your "set in stone retarded rules" violated Seriously a console that comes with homebrew is something most people want these days, but because companies can't make money off the custom software on them, they treat it like it's satan aids or something
They don't make most of their money on PS3s. They make most of it on games. Game publishers are not going to want to deal with a console that just had all of its security broken. And do you seriously think that most people are going to use this for homebrew? And not piracy?
See, I'd hack my PS3 if I could play PS2 games again. Sorry :c I too miss my old fat ps3 that could play PS2 games.

It doesn't work as well as the 1st gen (which have the graphics chip of the PS2), but it is still quite good.

Even though is is cool to see, I'm worried that every single match in every single game will have a hacker of some kind now. Knowing the console community, I wouldn't doubt that more then half the PS3 users are going to try to use it just for "hax."

Every CoD game was totally unplayable if you wanted a real match. Everything was ~modeed lobbies loel~~. Quite a few non-CoD games suffered it, very few PS3 exclusives, but not as badly because they weren't as known for modification.
Anyone know of a downgrader for 4.20? Or know where I can download an eu 4.25, since the downgrader I found only works with that(I think, no idea if it works for previous versions)
