Music CD's serve as great gifts.

I'm actually beginning to miss Bush and his internet policies.
Joe Biden doesn't understand the difference between making a duplicate and stealing the original.
He's talking about stealing the value, not the actual product.
American right here :patriot: I want to fucking move to Europe, this place is full of dumb shits.
you won't be missed.
Aren't there more pressing issues at hand other than whiny corporations getting all upset about the death of an obsolete industry? I don't know, something about a war, or an oil spill? There is also the issue of potential global energy crisis in the future. But no, by all means lets continue to dick around with unimportant shit like this.
[img_thumb]http://www.facepunch.com/ads/rating/tick.png[/img_thumb]
Time for change he said. He never said it was good change. [editline]04:30PM[/editline]
He's talking about stealing the value, not the actual product.
So I assume you are against lending as well?
He's talking about stealing the value, not the actual product.
Still not the same thing at all, there are so many more costs involved in replacing a stolen bit of merchandise. It's immensely difficult to accurately quantify any losses due to piracy.
He states, "This is theft, clear and simple. It's smash and grab, no different than a guy walking down Fifth Avenue and smashing the window at Tiffany's and reaching in and grabbing what's in the window."
yeah except no window gets smashed and the original isn't taken, it's just copied gg biden I don't think you even know how any of this works
yeah except no window gets smashed and the original isn't taken, it's just copied gg biden I don't think you even know how any of this works
So you're basically borrowing/"borrowing" a copy from the person who uploaded it?
Wow instead he should push for companies to lower the prices on their shitty games/music/movies so people see more value in it and pirate it less. Or maybe prevent retarded legal claims for more money than there is on the planet.
So you're basically borrowing/"borrowing" a copy from the person who uploaded it?
Pretty much.
So you're basically borrowing/"borrowing" a copy from the person who uploaded it?
another difference is that the uploader is willingly sharing his purchase with others, whereas with common theft you're just taking it from someone against their will
I hate how people defend piracy like it's some sort of crusade to rid the modern music, film and games industries of their old, capitalist ways. That is a load of horse shit and everyone knows it; piracy happens because the facilities are there do so. If people really wanted those industries to change their ways then they'd do it properly by using modern alternatives, like Spotify for music, or abstaining support altogether. You can't just have your cake and eat it. That being said, I don't think any government is handling the situation anywhere close to how it should be. We need some radical reform from people who understand what needs to change and not just some ridiculously overcompensating lawsuits put together by stuffy executives who doesn't know jack-shit about the Internet.

why bother, you can't stop piracy. [editline]12:19PM[/editline]
I hate how people defend piracy like it's some sort of crusade to rid the modern music, film and games industries of their old, capitalist ways.
Nah, right now it's all about flipping the bird to the publishers who use DRM.
All Americans who use the interwebs should stop paying taxes if they don't support it.
All Americans who use the interwebs should stop paying taxes if they don't support it.
Yeah, uhh, you go to jail for that.
First of all, the population of the U.S. is just over 300 million. Assuming 90% of that uses the Internet on a regular basis, we still have 270 million people using the internet. How the fuck are we going to monitor 270 million people for piracy? Waste of tax dollars anyone? I don't see how they can justify the theft claims as well. Last I checked theft was unwilling seizure of property. And as long as these asshole corporations continue to put overrestrictive DRM in their products, I'm sure that many pirates will not change their ways. Music piracy has already been covered well in this thread so I won't go over that. But here's all your Hope and Change for those of you who voted for Obama. God bless America, eh?
I am sure that prices of new single player games will be higher if this idea was carried out properly. As if the new games aren't expensive enough. Really though, what the fuck, games cost like 60 euros nowadays. 60 euros is too much for a game. Reactions would be 'go get a job' but if you work, the price tag is still 60 euros. Buying would be easier, but it's still way to expensive.
Obama, gtfo already, no one wants you to be president anymore, so much for change, it was more like getting fucked up the ass and hung out to dry with you.

They profited like a sonofabitch for a sub-par game and I can only worry that this will continue.
They should remove their stupid DRM and restrictions.
And MW2 was pirated over 500k times if my memory serves true
Just more proof the U.S. government is a corrupt vehicle that will only serve for the 'good' of major corporations
[editline]04:36PM[/editline] And MW2 was pirated over 500k times if my memory serves true
but the thing is that because it was pirated 500k+ times, they didn't lose 500k+ sales. Most of the pirates are just wondering what the game is like without having to pay 60 euros
Still not the same thing at all, there are so many more costs involved in replacing a stolen bit of merchandise. I go to a store to the magazine section, pick one up, and read the entire thing. I put it back instead of taking it to the cashier and paying a ridiculous amount for a few pieces of colored paper. Piracy.
Has obama actually done ANYTHING in his presidency that was worthwhile? Goddamn these next years cannot go by fast enough. [editline]06:02PM[/editline]
So if you wanted to sell something, but I copied it and gave it out for free, that wouldn't be stealing?
Not really no.
Someone write to Sebelius and tell her pirating is environmental because we don't waste plastics on packaging and bullshit. She had no problem fucking over Kansas for environmentalism, so I can see no reason she wouldn't agree with that.
