it's called multitasking
what's this?! obama doing something wrong?!?!?!?!
where are the usual fpers to blindly defend obama?! oh that's right, they're finally learned he's a complete idiot
"they are finally learned"
But copying is taking the value.
Then why isn't illegal when the government makes copies of the money we legally own because we exchanged it for labor? As it stands, the government is taking the value of our money because they are creating copies of it out of thin air because they can.
Every time they print a dollar bill, they are committing mass piracy from anyone that rightfully owns a dollar bill. The fact that there is no law against it doesn't change the concept in the slightest. I'm not going to feel bad doing it back every once in a while.
And that's why you just can't say "downloading a song is bad" because the concept is so far reaching and there's so much gray area it's amazing.
The problem of piracy is just a precursor in to how the system of capitalism and currency reacts to abundance. Data is so abundant and so readily created and reproduced that it runs into problems with the system. What if we were to make food readily made and reproduced as data? Would we want to stop "food piracy" just because it puts farmers and anything that has to do with the handling of food out of work?

Wow. That was amazingly said.
It's not the crackdown of illegal downloads that's going to kill me. It's the copy protection they're going to put on these CD's and DVD's. Seriously, if I want to put stuff I buy on my portable device, then I damn well should be able to.
RIAA is a joke, never heard of MPAA. I rather work on the oil spill than the PIARCY OF THE INTERNET OMFG

MPAA = Motion Picture Association of America.
It's the Movie Industry's counterpart to the Music Industry's RIAA.

The fuck dude, this thread was months old.
On topic: Even if Bush got us into all those messes, this is not one he would of led us into :patriot:
People that don't know shit about the internet trying to run the internet.
I can understand cracking down on distributors of pirated software, but trying to hunting down every single person who's downloaded pirated things is just idiotic.
Yeah, as if we didn't have enough people in the U.S. justice system already from other stupid laws.
They should remove their stupid DRM and restrictions. It would make it much more available to the customer.
Amnesia just came out. It has zero DRM, it's made by an indie developer of 5 people, and it only costs 20 bucks.
Yet it's one of the most pirated games right now.
Don't play the DRM card when both you and I know it's bullshit.
Don't give me the "hurr durr its copying" bullshit because you can't compare physical stealing to digital stealing. The idea behind it is that the developers or artists don't get money yet you get something that's supposed to cost money, but for free.
Don't give me the "hurr durr it's a company anyway it has billions of dollars," because a company is just a large group of people who must feed their own families and that's not cheap. I know you people like to think that companies are indestructible. Well, ask the dozen or so popular game companies that have went essentially bankrupt over the last decade and say that they're indestructible with a straight face.
Amnesia is Frictional's best game, and because of people like you who constantly try to justify digital theft, it may very well be their last.
obama just lost 80% of the internet's blind support of him

Shut up. I see you spew on about this everywhere, like the only thing that can be done is crackdown on a problem. You won't ever stop piracy of a game, it's sad, but you won't. You're like the people who believe prohibition works, it's not likely to happen. You can however circumvent it and try and minimize it. Not saying you shouldn't try and stop it, but you have to realize, you can't stop somethings through some methods.
Hell, you're using a very vague and not popular indie game as "proof" that pirates are the worst theives. Ever thought of the fact that it's just not a popular game outside of a community of pirates.

It is preventable. You and I can't do shit (but not pirate) but ISPs can do anything. Obama's involvement is a step in that direction.
Every time some new DRM system comes out, hordes of people go, "durr it'll hurt sales, people will pirate, etc," but it seems that regardless of DRM or price, games are still pirated to hell anyway. Here are some more games that have non-intrusive DRMs but that are still pirated to shit:
Mafia II
Bad Company II
Worms Reloaded
All GTA games
Just Cause II
Metro 2033
MW2
How's that for vague?

And yet those games sell more than they need to due to advertising.

Says you? Because you know so much about their internal affairs?
"More than they need to?" Who do you think you are to be spewing that kind of shit, exactly?

The same person as you that spews the shit you spew. A person talking on the internet. With the same knowledge you have. Drawing a different conclusion from the evidence. So sue me.
You want to act like you have authority here, go ahead, I don't think anyone but you cares about how high and mighty you act. I'll state my position clearly so you can fuck off with this "holier than thou" crusade. I do not side with anyone, I don't pirate games myself, and I don't want to begin some government legislature bullshit to stop this, nor do I believe that you can ever really stop theft, just minimize it, and there are ways that they can minimize it that the industry just won't take yet.
It's not "stealing" but it's just as bad.
Imagine you have somthing like a replicator, from star trek. You walk into a shop, see a nice games console, scan and replicate it, and walk out of the shop again without paying a penny and a nice new psxboxwiisixty.. If that was possible, I know people would be against it and there would be laws against it. So, facepunch, why is piracy any different?
Games DO need drm, but it needs to be GOOD drm, like steam, which is helpful because it updates your games too.

None of this clarifies what you even mean by "more than they need to"? As if they only deserve to sell a certain amount, and no more.
None of this clarifies what you even mean by "more than they need to"? As if they only deserve to sell a certain amount, and no more.
Really? To turn a profit, break even, I didn't believe that needed explanation.

He's a mindless angst teenager who has the typical 'perfect' way the government should be run. I stopped taking him seriously at "more than they need to" and so should you.

You didn't even think to question what I meant when I said it you moron. You took it one way that I didn't fucking mean it.
Nor am I a teenager because I disagree with you.
Really? To turn a profit, break even, I didn't believe that needed explanation.
It sounded to me like you meant more than they deserved
It sounded to me like you meant more than they deserved
Then my bad, I clearly sounded different than I intended to. To clarify for you and SA Spyder so he can stop being a child I meant break even or turn a profit. Nothing else, nothing more, nothing less.
