They can only legally do so when a law is broken. Laws are there to keep us from anarchy and in order to keep those laws in place we must have people to enforce them.

Real nice job at generalizing it there. Police are a organization designed to protect people under law, a citizen who takes things into his own hand causes more problems than solutions, that is why we have these organizations because they don't fuck a lot of shit up and follow rules.

If he had simply crashed into them in some freak accident, the death penalty would not apply.
He, however, was intoxicated and did not have a drivers license. This has vehicular homicide written all over it.

This whole accident and the four deaths could have been [b]completely[/b] avoided if this man did not get drunk and go drive a car (even though he should of not have). Accidents happen to much when you're drink driving and this is why it is [b]illegal[/b], you accept your fate as soon as you get your intoxicated arse onto that seat and drive. This man has no excuse, he broke multiple laws and committed man slaughter and he deserves no sympathy. What if one of your loved ones died? Would you feel the same way about him being let off? But judging by your stance you would rather have him rot in prison for the rest of his life (which he would likely kill himself regardless).
