he's not advertising them. He's thanking them for their support.
If he hadn't said "buy L.L. Bean" I would agree with you.
If he hadn't said "buy L.L. Bean" I would agree with you.
If the entire tweet wasn't in response to a boycott, I would agree with you. If the tweet was "Buy L.L Bean^tm's new line of waterproof outdoor apparel", then I would agree with you. All I see is a tweet thanking an individual who is involved with L.L Bean who came under attack because of a personal donation.
The president of the country encouraging the country to buy a product is fucking weird. who does he serve? the american people or american businesses?
Is it appropriate for him to endorse specific products and stuff using his Twitter?
He was actually trying to sell his Trump products at the press conference (not last night, his press conference in march).
The conference also appears to have been filled with staff members who were expected to laugh and applaud throughout the event.
We're they expected to though? Or are they true supporters? We may never know if they were really blank. Even Noah Gray, the man who took the photos, is pointing out that we'll never actually know. But it is suspicious.
Going by GOP logic, if you have nothing to hide, why can't we look at every little detail?
This is actually a sickeningly common sentiment regardless of political affiliation. It's all too common from liberals as well.
I invite you both to re-read this: "Support the company that benefits my benefactors" is nothing wrong? I think boycotting L.L. Bean because one family member made a political donation is an immense overreaction, but is anyone really going to claim that there is no ethical concern here?
I read it. "Support this company that has been unfairly targeted because of a political witch hunt." isn't a breach of ethics.

the foreseeable future is going to be a wild ride
I read it. "Support this company that has been unfairly targeted because of a political witch hunt." isn't a breach of ethics.
But there's nothing wrong or unfair about a boycott. It's simply the people choosing to exert economic pressure on an entity by taking their business elsewhere. If people don't want to support businesses that support Trump, then so be it. Normally I'd say that Trump should be allowed to make his endorsement as a counterpoint to any boycott, yeah, but he's the fucking president elect, man. What if Obama had made a big stink and endorsed Gawker, asking everyone under the sun to give them traffic because they were 'under attack by a bunch of right-wingers on a witch hunt'? How would that make him look? 'Cause it'd make me lose a fucking LOT of respect for him, I'll tell you that much.
I read it. "Support this company that has been unfairly targeted because of a political witch hunt." isn't a breach of ethics.
I mean if he wanted to say that, maybe he should've brought attention to stopping the boycott rather than sounding like a backroom endorsement. I'm not his interpreter, I don't know what his true intentions are behind what he's saying in public as the president-elect. If what he says can't even be accepted at face-value, then where the hell does anything he says matter?
Welcome to the new age of commercially available presidents

It's not an ethical concern at all.
Everyone should support Hilary Clinton because she's been a unfair victim of a political witch hunt.
Your respect for him or how it "makes him look" has zero impact on this being "an ethical concern". It's not an ethical concern at all.
How is it not an ethical concern for big business to be able to buddy up to the president for personal endorsements from the highest office in the land? He's the leader of the fucking executive branch, not some radio jockey.
i see trump's gotten tired of being just russia's sock puppet, and has branched out by making his ass commercially available. order now!
Everyone should support Hilary Clinton because she's been a unfair victim of a political witch hunt.
Watch out, people in here will call you out on that "ethical concern"!
How is it not an ethical concern for big business to be able to buddy up to the president for personal endorsements from the highest office in the land? He's the leader of the fucking executive branch, not some radio jockey.
Because that's not what's happening here? You can try to simplify it past the context all you want, but the context will beat you every time. The business isn't "buddying up" to him for an endorsement. He saw a supporter's business getting flack for the sole reason that one of the owners personally supported him, and decided to stand up for them.
Jesus fucking christ, is paid presidential endorsement the next step for advertising?
"Buy Brawndo: It's Got What Plants Crave. It's Got Electrolytes!"
This just keeps getting better and better. But he says it how it is guys, right?
Watch out, people in here will call you out on that "ethical concern"!
I guess being president has some standards that come with the package.
The president of the country encouraging the country to buy a product is fucking weird. who does he serve? the american people or american businesses?
I thought it was staggeringly obvious which one he supports.
I guess being president has some standards that come with the package.
I guess it must suck when people can make up new standards for you on the fly whenever they want.
Real legal documents tend to be full of little post-it notes and ways to easily find sections of documents. These just look like blank pieces of paper put into folders. Not to mention, they are apparently A4 sized which isn't what is used in legal documents according to the article. Side thing, unrelated: Is it appropriate for him to endorse specific products and stuff using his Twitter?
Croney capitalism. He helps the companies that support him, and attacks the companies that don't. He is using his political power to directly benefit or hurt companies based on how nice they are to him.
I guess it must suck when people can make up new standards for you on the fly whenever they want.
Pretty sure people have worried before about a President using his recognition to promote business afflitated to him
I guess it must suck when people can make up new standards for you on the fly whenever they want.
"New" standards? Uh... [editline]12th January 2017[/editline] I'm pretty sure that I've always wanted the U.S. President to not behave like President Camacho.
Days since last embarrassing Trump incident: 0
Can somebody make this a website?
He did that because people are calling for a boycott of L.L. Bean because one of the 50 family members that own it made a donation to a pro-trump PAC. Nothing wrong with that in the slightest.
At first I thought you were being sarcastic, but then I realized you were serious despite posting exactly what's wrong with it
